Honestly love the concept of cob building. But the projects I see in this channel lacks the beauty and finishing I see in some of the western cob houses. No offense but just trying to know if its possible to build smooth walls using cob that I see in other parts of world.

Remember that these structures are being constructed by interns and folks just learning. You can finish the outside any way you want. Shalom my friend. kzbin.info/www/bejne/sGPJpYR8haiWmas

Sir, i have a question regarding the sturdiness of the house that may be built like these! Do these structures sustain in harsh monsoon we get in Western Ghats and Konkan? Can these be made earthquake proof? Please include basic idea of costs in next videos also, so that people get the idea of how it is cost friendly and eco friendly!

Is it possible to come and learn everything you guys do on campus?
@ThannalNaturalHomes4 жыл бұрын
1.What is Thannal team doing presently? a)Due to the coronavirus situation, it is not possible to have a workshop on campus. We will be starting with a free video course online - the Back Home series - through which you can learn about mud construction. This course contains all aspects needed to make a home - foundation, wall, roof, plasters and flooring. b)We are releasing videos one by one, at a pace of 2-3 videos in a month. You can see links in the respective section, work in progress. Kindly go to the page ‘online Video course’. c)To get updates of ‘Back Home series’ on your phone, if you are not part of our Whatsapp group, join Thannal news whatsapp channel through this link. d)We are trying to do the series in Tamil, Malayalam and Hindi, so that more common people can also understand about such construction methods. This is our main priority work till June 2021. e)We have started with an interview series ‘Natural builders around us’ - about other natural builders all over India studied from Thannal and continue studying by themselves. See updates in our KZbin channel playlist Natural builders around us , kindly wait until and follow the upcoming videos. thannal.com/useful-links/

I have some questions- 1) can we use only the treated bamboos as building material? As u know in North east, bamboo, timbers r use rather than cob. 2) how long a treated bamboo last in such building u show? 3) here as colum sal ( sheora robusta ) steam is used. But there is another termite proof, cheap, native, easy to cultivate, fast growing plant available, Toona ciliata. How useful this plant is? 4) the roof u made with lime, how long it last?
@ThannalNaturalHomes4 жыл бұрын
If timber is abundant you can use wood But bamboo grows fast and you can cut and use it when bamboo is 4 years, and it will grow again. It is not about using lot of materials it's about using little and small to full fill our small dreams and needs. Remembering Bapuji's words "The world has enough for everyone's needs, but not everyone's greed," Bamboo if you harvest properly you don't need treatment. Properly Treated bamboo from market will last for more than 30 years. But you can see here in this Video 300 years Ganjam house with bamboos - kzbin.info/www/bejne/inS7kIGMa9h2hs0 You can track this here in Chapter 2 Know the Basics: Mud & Bamboo Identifying different types of mud through tests. Harvesting, treatment and preservation of bamboo. kindly wait thannal.com/natural-building-video-course/

The only concern i have is about the security in homes made of cob. Though i coud be totally wrong, I believe it'd really easy to break into the house via any window.
@ThannalNaturalHomes4 жыл бұрын
@Jasbeerji this video building plan is open . It's simple to break any structure now a days but if you are open and simple there will be less damage . Cob method of doing wall is powerful if we use it wisely. One example is Coimbatore center jail was made with cob in Tamil Nadu like Goa and many more examples are there we all have to still explore

Durability, strength, maintenance and last pricing. Like as u have rightly pointed out the mud kitchen,I would love to introduce gobar gas stove inside the mud kitchen , the wood is not wasted or destroying the Mother Nature and less smoke in the cooking area. The house also can be nicely designed for good sunlight and ventilation.thank you. If possible send your contact so that I can get in touch with you. Regards. S. Aravindan.
