You were more than great in Cologne yesterday evening. I am so happy I could be there. Thank you hundred times!

it reminds me of one proverb we have in our country...i guess it'd translate "the darkest spot is under the lamp" which basically means that you won't look on obvious places for something hidden... like that Cecilia's sister was actually behind that....

This is amazing! Cecilia and Her Selfhood is one of the best songs i've heard like all other songs by Conor. I truly admire Conor and that brilliant mind of his.

@edebonhar “I called it ‘Cecilia and Her Selfhood’ because I wanted to show the sister who ends up destroying the statue, I wanted the sister to represent the inner wicked of Cecilia herself, so it’s almost like someone destroying herself…like an analogy of that.” - Conor O'Brien, Villagers' Frontman

I believe the lyrics are about mental illness, the twin statues represent Cecilia's different personalities and she destroys herself but it seems to them that outside sources caused her to break.

Alexhimself it went along so perfectly. it's such a sad song. i think it has to do with mental illness and how one part of her was happy but is no longer happy and left her 'sister'(happiness) im guessing

I can't believe a video of a kitten wearing a hat, or worse, an over-produced, sickening stream of moving images produced to accompany a Justin Bieber 'song', can get millions... no, hundreds of millions of views, yet this piece of genius and beauty gets a fraction of a percent of that? This planet...

Lovely dissonance towards the end there. Call me a big fool, but I have a feeling Cecilia unwittingly did it to herself.

What the fuck is this song about?
@ThatCryptidBoi7 жыл бұрын
I feel as though this song is about a good friend of The Narrator's, named Cecelia, who suffered from depression and social anxiety (or perhaps a mental illness of a similar nature). The Narrator had loved and respected Cecelia greatly. But Cecelia commits suicide and The Narrator, with his friends, tries to find someone to blame, believing strongly that someone had driven her to take her own life. The reason why her "Twin" is never given a name is because it's a reflection/personification of Cecelia's depression, manifesting itself to resemble Cecelia, a metaphor for one's mind filling itself with worst case scenarios and crippling anxieties, and eventually causing itself to collapse.
