The joke at the end was about Indiana asking who it was that was investigating it and the guy says, "Top men." But Indiana knows all the experts in this field. Then, you see the crate in a huge warehouse with thousands of identical crates, and you realize the government is just storing it. So you have to think, what the heck else is the government hiding in all those crates?
@patrioticjustice9040

They're probably storing it until the technology can be developed to research that stuff properly, or they may be safeguarding it until such threats as the Nazis, WWII, and the Communists were no longer an issue to deal with.

@@markmuller7962 I thought if they liked the first then they'd be more wiling to watch the 2nd and 3rd. The temple of doom is a bit depressing in a way compared to ark and crusade but then it was designed as such, much like episode 5 of star wars (or so it's been compared to by Lucas or Spielberg). I can't remember if it was lucas or Spielberg who decided they wanted the 2nd movie to be darker, still, since they enjoy indiana Jones it's a no brainer for the future. The outfit that Beloq wears is what the Hebrews in charge of the Ark would wear when doing rituals with it. The Ark would make an army with it invincible if Jehovah approved of the war and apparently told the priests in charge. Something the Hebrews forgot on the occasions they went to wars that were not approved of. The Ark was basically a nuclear weapon and if mishandled bad things happened.

The ending was most appropriate. What do you do with something so powerful and deadly? Lock it up so no one will ever find that nightmare box again. We keep all nightmares in the basement. @@bondrafabaondI am still surprised by that; it is the crazy cult people (Kali) who eat the strange things and are violent psychopaths. The other Indians came across as humble, family oriented people who were honored by Indiana's help in restoring their glory. With so many cultures within America that act differently, I brushed it off as an indication that something was wrong with Pankot. Of course, I don't try to dismiss or try to tell anyone else how to feel about something; feelings don't work like that.

The older I get, the more I love Temple of Doom. I like how in the series, it stands out as a separate adventure for Indy; as though he could adapt and be ready, researched and prepared for another trip to unapologetically shove evil out of the way to "win", not simply tied to war efforts of Germany. Indiana Jones is inspiring.

@@kennypitts4829 For indians Khali is not an evil goddess so they were offended by how it was portraied. The people who eat stranges things in the dinner scene are not thuggies or members of the Khali cult, they are ordinary indian people and the were offended how their gastronomy was portraid and they didn´t like the movie mkes humor show them as people who eats rude and disgusting things. And considering their past where they were colonized by the white man, they don´t feel too much simpathy for a film where a white man mesiah saves their children from evil forces. I supose they see whte man paternalism. Just try to put yourself on this people place. Imagine an indian director depicting America where people eat living cockroaches and snakes and where Jesuschrsit cult is an evil one that makes human sacrifices or torture like on the Inquisition times. What do you think Americans would like that movie?.Specially on the Bible Best area.

I feared it might be a little out of their understanding as it is very much left up to the viewer to understand what's going on, for example I can't see them understanding the monolith and I thought an hour later they'd still be wondering what's going on and why it's switching scenes Still, a great movie. I recommended it to my friend who's scared of the empty vaccuum of space and he enjoyed it I think if it's explained to them beforehand in the right way, it could be a good choice.

Meh, I saw that in the theater when it came out. My dad was a huge SF fan, but after we'd sat through it he just started laughing. He thought it was a complete ripoff. No one understood the ending. I read the book when I was older, and thought, "OK, the child was blowing up orbiting nukes? Huh." Still didn't make much sense, even considering they were more or less writing the screenplay and novel in sync. Some events were different from the other in each, which didn't help any. And in the theater, the psychedelic show segment went on waaay too long. Reminded me of a live performance of In A Gadda Da Vida I saw some years later. With a backdrop on the stage that ran something remarkably similar. For the 20-minute drum solo. And that was without having any herbal help to bear it. Parts of it were interesting, and certainly HAL is an enduring character, but it's such a mishmash. It's like a couple of hours spent on pondering the question, "Why are we here?" Seriously? Who cares? You're here, alive; so live.

On a historical sidenote: The plot isn't as far fetched as it might seem at first. I don't mean the end, but the Nazis hunting for supposedly powerful artifacts - that was actually a thing. They actually had a special department "Ahnenerbe" (Ancestor-heritage) led by Heinrich Himmler who believed in a bunch of esotheric and occult nonsense. Their main mission was to find proof that the "Aryan nordic German race" was culturally superior to all other people (or f they couldn't find proof they were to make it up) and possibly even the direct descendants of the people of "Atlantis". But due to Himmler's beliefs they didn't just focus on this kind of pseudo-science, they indeed also tried to find whether mythical objects that were said to have supernatural powers were real and could bve used by the Nazis - or if not that at least have strong symbolic value that could be used by the propaganda. Things like the Holy Grail, the Spear of Destiny or the Ark. As far as I know not too many people outside of Himmler's inner circle even believed in this kind of stuff, but he was the 2nd in command so they let him do what he wanted. One thing they, for example, did was to travel to India and Tibet to find proof for the existence of an "Indo-Germanic" culture they believed to have existed at some point, a predecessor both of the people of India and the Germanic "race". Now, in linguistics there actually seems to be an ancient common ancestor of today's Indian and the Germanic languages (German, Dutch, English to a degree) - buuut that doesn't actually mean there once were "Indo European" people. As far as we know they never existed.

Can I make a suggestion? Please let them watch the "Goonies" and all parts of "Back to the Future". I love to see someone without the knowledge of western films or series to experience them for the first time. This two gentleman are wonderful to see their reactions. Keep it up 🤗

There's many great movies. Funny started these young fellas on a couple scary ones. You should have them watch Forrest Gump. Then Twister, then Maximum Overdrive.

I saw this when I was a young tween with my older brother and at the end what I got from it was God over time turned the Ten Commandments tablets into sand and he sent not necessarily evil spirits but Angels of Death to Kill the Nazis! It freaked me out at first but then I was like “Yeah they Deserved to Die!” 🙄🤨😉

I'm just curious. When Indy started explaining The Ark at the beginning of the movie, why did you cover up their faces? What was their reaction?

I wish they could react to the 1946 "The Yearling". It's less action, but is so good. This drama focuses on the family of Civil War veteran Penny Baxter, who lives and works on a farm in Florida with his wife, Orry, and their son, Jody. The only surviving child of the family, Jody longs for companionship and unexpectedly finds it in the form of an orphaned fawn. While Penny is supportive of his son's four-legged friend, Orry is not, leading to heartbreaking conflict. Fiction

Another truly great western film set in the Middle-East is 'Lawrence of Arabia'. It is based on the true life story of a British officer who united the Arab tribes to fight the Ottoman Empire in World War 1.

A good movie, a bit sad though, knowing what's happened and then going back in time leading up to the events. How the great eventually fall

Raiders of the Lost Ark is about as perfect of a movie as you can get. Honestly, the visual filmmaking alone, you could watch this movie on mute and still follow along just fine!

If they both like space movies, may I suggest both 2001: A Space Odyssey and The Martian for them to watch. Both of them are very different but wonderful.

Too bad you can't just put a dim light just over them to capture their reactions and leave the rest of the room dark. It would enhance their experience! It would be well worth experimenting with the lighting.
