@@A_Name_ your comment is rather crude . Nothing about this is something to mock or joke about. The fact people have to kill is horrendous. These are people . Human beings. This man did what he had to do with great courage and great risk . He carried much on his shoulders and I’m sure for a lifetime. One thing I’ve heard from men who had to kill people in war long after it was over was the difficulty they have dealing with the taking of a human life . None of them found anything humorous. We have to stop being crass about such things and it’s never funny . Much respect for this man but I don’t imagine he would find this humorous.

Häyhä's official sniper kill count was started after his officer noticed he had a repeated kill count at the end of each day. They designated a soldier to help him and to keep the official count. Finland also had several other extremely good snipers. Sergeant Pörssi took 44 shots from one position and got 41 confirmed kills with them.

@@AhsokaTanoTheWhite It's not just about the head being a smaller target than the torso but head shots are also not as deadly as movies, games etc would have us believe. If a hunter were to shoot a deer in the head it's unlikely to be an instant kill and the animal will run off. Even if it dies it can cover a considerable distance before that happens, and the farther it runs the greater the risk that you'll lose track of it. Even if aiming for center mass doesn't kill instantly it will usually result in massive internal bleeding (by puncturing the heart or severing major arteries) which causes the animal to bleed out quickly. Less suffering for the animal and less risk of it running so far that you lose track of it. Atleast that's what I can recall being told by people who have hunting experience.

My grandfather fought on the russian front. He was hit by some grenade pieces and after he came out of the field hospital he lost his teeth because of an infection and one thumb was stiff so he couldn't move it anymore. But he was lucky to get out and had nightmares of the war even 30 years later. He was a farmers son and one incident haunted him. When he and his comrades lied in the trench, some cows came to them and they were screaming in pain because their udders where full of milk and no farmer was there to milk them. My gradfather wanted to milk them, but he knew, that when he get out of the trench he would be shot by the enemy. He passed away 2019 with over 90 years, but i don't think, he remembered very much because he had two strokes. 5 years he lied in a nursing home and my grandmother visited him every two days.

This Finnish man smiled widely when this was the next one. There is one thing that I have been taught different though. That being Simo not being shot by a sniper. It was an ordinary line rifleman that got too close to him when their lines were overrun. If I remember right, Simo was using his SMG at that point. I also wish Weird History went a bit more to Simo's personality. He was very quiet and humble. Once he was asked what it felt like killing so many people. His response was "I just did what I was told, as well as I could." Another question was about his secret to being so good a marksman. His short and simple answer: "Practice." Thank you for this video. I have great admiration for the prowess and bravery of our veterans, my late grandfather included.

There's a ton of history channels covering the subject with decent production quality that actually do their research, rather than a surface level wikipedia read. So, do they hear translated sounds from their headphones or do they understand english? I like to watch reactions, but I would love if the videos were paused when someone speaks..

War is always a horrible thing. But as humans, we have not come far enough to avoid it. Maybe one day, all those sacrifices will finally be enough.

Have them react to "The Black Alien Project." and other extreme body modifications. That would be interesting!

none less than 505 kills on that bolt action rifle without scope + 200 confirmed kills with SMG (m-31 suomi KP) and that of course was also without scope.

You should have them watch some of the tornados that come through the US. I don’t believe they have seen or heard of them and so that would be interesting to see them react to.

To give the entire back story of the specific conflict(s) between Finland and Russia in WWII would be too long, but for some reference I want to say a few things. 1. During the war, Russia was facing a threat from Germany and wanted some land mass to protect their primary targets, so they requested that Finland give them a portion of our country. We were obliged to say no to such a request. 2. Russia staged an attack by Finland to their side in order to give them an excuse to invade the land they needed, and proceeded to attack. 3. Small Finland responds to fire with fire. That is probably the main reason Häyhä is remembered. Not because of kill count alone but because he tilted the odds of a very small population under attack by the big bullies next door. He was our best fear striker into the hearts of the already poorly Russian army. My grandfather fought alongside them, and his home land of Karelia was lost in that war. He never talked about it. And Häyhä never saw himself as a hero either.
