You mean the USS Indianapolis ship? Most people do not know anything about it. Naval ship was hit with a torpedo, and sunk, and the crew hit the water. 100s of sharks attacked them, went into a feeding frenzy. I think over 200 US sailors died.

In Harm’s Way (book, not movie), is a horrifying true story of the USS Indianapolis, the ship that delivered the atomic bomb that was dropped on Hiroshima, Japan, and thus ended the war. Everything Quint said about it is true. When an American boat plane first spotted the survivors in 1945, he saw countless sharks circling the tight groups the men had gathered into. The pilot and crew dropped barrels of fresh water and radioed the location, but were so distressed by seeing the sharks tearing into the survivors, they agreed to land the boat plane in open water, where it’s almost guaranteed to flip the plane. They landed anyway. The plane flipped, the pilot and crew climbed onto the floating wreckage, and started calling for the men to swim over and climb on too. But the survivors were so damaged from sun, starvation, dehydration and salt water, they didn’t understand. So the pilot started yelling, “Happy hour! Conga line! Conga, conga, conGA!“ singing. A conga line is where a string of people grasp each other’s waist or shoulders, then dance in a long “Conga line.” It worked. Many men swam in a conga line to the plane, hallucinating they were at a bar. Incredible story.

Yes. The best thing to do is turn to face the shark. Stare directly into its eyes, that should trigger its flight instinct. If that doesn't work, box the shark on the ears, they hate that. And if all that doesn't work, then reach into the shark's mouth and pull its teeth out.

The actor who played Quinn apparently had a bad drinking problem and his co stars said be was drunk in every scene he was in. I read recently that the woman who played the mother of the boy that was killed went into a restaurant years later and saw that they had lots of Jaws memorabilia so she mentioned to the waitress that she was in the movie and that she Played Alex's mother so the waitress said the owner would like to meet her so went and got him and the owner turned out to be the guy who played her son.

Spielberg said that with jurassic Park animatronics had gotten so far ahead of when he did Jaws that they could finally get facial poses and expressions and there was only one guy in the world that could make that happen since even filming in 1991-1992 the animatronics used in jurassic Park were ahead of their time and they could control and get the animatronics to a dead stop like the trex suddenly facing the jeep window which he could only dream about when directing jaws

But, as impressive as these moving dolls were to a 5-6 year old at the time, they were still pretty rudimentary compared to what became available by the time of the Jurassic Park films (like micro motors under moveable skin to produce eye and facial expressions), and what is available now (advanced CG and robotics).

*Ah, an overcast day in eastern America, in the summer, and we are watching Jaws! Naveed and Mansoor are great to watch a movie with! Yes, Stephen Spielberg has directed many incredible and beloved movies. He is a genius with movie making. Naveed, Americans have grown up making that shark approaching music at each other....da dum...da dum....da dum...dumdumdumdumdum...the musical score for the film was superb, you are correct. Very haunting, menacing tune, eh? The incident Quint told about, is a true story, just didn't happen to that character. All the villagers shows emotions so easily and that is fabulous. Now that you are learning and experiencing so much Naveed and Mansoor, you're "going to need a bigger boat"!They need to see Marvel movies like Endgame, or Spiderman Far From Home, the Matrix movies, and so on. And The Abyss. Or The Day The Earth Stood Still, or The Day After Tomorrow. I also love you gave them a crunchy snack to stress eat with!*

Great reaction guys, fun fact, this movie changed the movie industry. Before Jaws big movie studios did not release big budget films in the summer, it was considered a slow time, partially because of the heat. But by the time Jaws came along in 1975, good air conditioned movie theaters were pretty common. and people packed the theaters to see it, everybody also had the book.

This movie did really gave sharks terrible reputation. Shark really is dangerous animal and unknowing swimmer is almost defenceless, but still the monstrosity of the shark is increased for the movie. Sadly the movie ignited quite a zeal against sharks worldwide and shark populations around the world suffered greatly for it. While being dangerous to swimmers the sharks are also really important predators for the balance of aquatic ecosystem as they regulate overpopulation of other fish. I would say a crocodile is much more likely to attack a human than shark is.

I’m so interested to watch all of this bc I’ve never seen Jaws and now that I’m an adult it will be interesting to think back to childhood when people talked about this movie. And I love these guys reviewing anything.

When JAWS came out a lot of people had thought of sharks as dolphin sized fish as they had seen on television shows like Flipper or Sea Hunt so finding out that mature Great Whites can grow to 17 feet long maybe 20 feet surprised a lot of people. They could believe that the 25 foot long shark in the movie was possible.

I was able to meet a survivor of the Indianapolis years ago, he loved talking about the ship but didn’t want to talk about the sinking of it.

I like the fact that these two listen and watch more than they talk. Another Travel Channel of villagers talks so much over the dialogue that they can’t hear it and they’re keep looking at each other and away from the movie. They end up missing some of the best parts because they don’t hear it or see it.

Over 50yrs old movie holds up still. True masterpiece. I watched it on tv as a kid in early 90'. It was old then, but I was terrified. Just like Hitchcock's Birds.

That was enjoyable, it's a great idea to watch movies together! :) But even if they caught the guilty shark, I would never swim in that water again. :O

The music made this movie. Tell the boys that I went to Hollywood once and saw that fake shark. They put on a kind of reenactment of the fake shark trying to attack our tour bus to give us cheap thrills. Most of the movie was filmed on a lot of land in Hollywood. Some bit were filmed on a small island on east coast. I bet that really gives them both nightmare. I could see how terrified they were over and over again with this movie. A bit cruel to do to such country boys. I hope the next movie is not so cruel and scary for them.

Fun fact: The line "we're going to need a bigger boat" was not in the script. It was _completely_ improvised.

I have a suggestion for the next movie to show them close encounters of the third kind or poltergeist either of them would have them climbing the walls .

We have recently had a sighting of a great white shark showing up in the waters off our Canadian east coast. Maybe the water is warming up enough for them to travel. Scary!! Great movie by the way....I've watched it three times and love it.

How can you eat cheese balls....while watching this movie?? I was a kid when I watched it and it sure made me sick....that summer, I had a lake and a pool to play in and brand new fins and goggles...the lake scared me, b/c a huge fish came up to me...oh boy...the pool it was. I was so traumatized.
