Viltrox 27mm f/1.2 | Full Frame Bokeh on APSC!

I got the 75mm f1.2 last week and what is really nice is that you get the type of bokeh of full frame lenses on an APSC camera. Fully agree on the grip. First time for me to get a 3rd party lens on Fuji and Waow. Note: I’m just an amateur photographer

I picked one up a soon as it came out. In waiting for it i started watching some reviews, and they where all positive. As soon as i got in in hand i put it on my XT5, and yes its a bit front heavy. But in my case i had bought a fairly cheap grip that can be had on amazon with those archa swiss rails built in, they are like 30 bucks. So weight was not an issue. Now to the image quality, i'm a street photographer and i wanted to love this lens...... well guess what i love this lens. It is super sharp, half the price of its focal equivalent of other brands. Looks like this will replace my fuji 23mm f1.4 and Zeiss 32mm f1.8 as my daily driver. Good job Viltrox, what a winner. I'm looking forward to their 75mm.

This was a great first impressions video, and I really appreciated the full frame comparison! I am thinking about getting this lens for indoor portraiture, but haven't pulled the trigger yet.

The Viltrox 27mm f1.2 & 75mm f1.2 lenses offer excellent build quality & produce beautiful images. I use these lenses with XT-3 camera bodies & have battery grips, should I choose to use them with these specific lenses. The cost/ performance ratio have these lenses punching well above their price point.

Thank you for your review. In your disclosure you might also mention if Viltrox let you keep the lens (it is a gift to you) or you have to send it back to Vlitrox.

If you haven’t tried the viltrox 75mm1.2 you will definitely want to it’s just as nice and just as sharp!

Great review, this clearly illustrates that you can get the same results on various sensor sizes if you have the right lenses. It would be even better if an actual 35mm 1.8 lens was used on Sony, rather than using 35mm 1.4 and stopping it down to 1.8. That way it would be a more realistic comparison not in terms of image quality, but also in terms of price and size.

sounds like Sony a7III/4 with 35 1.8 will be more compact and light when Xt-4/5 and Viltrox 27 1.2 . Just dont get why we shoot on Fuji ) I have both system but still dont wanna buy lenses for Fuji .. thx for the samples! p.s. after editing your samples I again made sure how easy it is edit this with Fuji and how more problematic it is with Sony. Yes, the Sony FF has more sharpness, but there is some kind of magic in the Fuji

Yeah, you're right, the Fuji-kit would be bigger and heavier. But you described the "magic" of fuji - that is exactly why I am using Fuji and not Sony anymore. I had the A7III with a bunch of lenses, some of them lighter and smaller as the Fuji-counterparts. But for me the choice was right: It is a lot of fun to shoot with Fuji, not so much (for me!) shooting Sony. Since I have the X-T5 I am very satisfied also with the AF which lacked with previous models. And the combination of the Viltrox 27mm with the X-T5 is really great, I got my Viltrox for a bargain and I don't think it is too big for the X-T5. And the built quality and the overall results of the Viltrox are just premium, it's really a stellar lens! Cheers!

Hi Alex, recent subscriber here. I have had strong GAS for this one for a few weeks. But I'm zoomless at the moment and it would be wise to cover that first (thinking Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8). Hard to put off this one, though, as I love the 27mm F.O.V. And that aperture 🤤

If you want the bokeh and low light capability, and if this one is as good as the 75mm f1.2, then the Viltrox is a great choice. If you want versatility and zoom in a compact form factor the sigma wins.

Wao finish editiding the downloads files and Viltrox is Sharper than de GM 35mm,you can see the grain on the GM.also Fuji color are superior 💯

I’m currently thinking of buying Viltrox 23mm f1.4 or the new Sigma 23mm f1.4, or this 27mm f1.2… I already have xf35mm f1.4, and considering the focal length difference so subtle, I thought it would be nicer to go with 23mm…but I’m not so sure about it after watching this review!haha Any thoughts on whether to choose 23mm or 27mm?

if you are an xt body owner you will not sacrifice shite, you just get a small rig grip and presto, you have a more balanced camera. (and most xt users have grips anyways)

It is an odd lens choice as it has the size and weight of a FF lens. What is the point of having an APSC camera in that case. It is the FF equivalent of a 40mm f1.8. The lighter sigma 35mm f1.4 on a FF body will result in a shallower DOF and you’ll get the dynamic range of the FF sensor. Im interested to hear any counterarguments.

You're right about the advantages. I think the main disadvantage of your FF alternative is cost. If you get the sony a6700 plus viltrox 27mm, that's about $2,000. If you get the a7cii, basically a full-frame a6700, plus the sigma, that will cost about $3,200.

The other issue with the lens besides the size, is when it comes to video. A lot of focus breathing. Which is a shame. So it's a great photography lens, but not necessarily a good video one.

Am I the only person who doesn’t care about ergonomics? I’ll shoot with an XF 56mm 1.2 on an X-T30 and be perfectly happy. I probably wouldn’t put the 50-140 on that body but a small grip doesn’t bother me. Of course, I’d rather use a Magic Mouse than an MX Master so maybe I’m weird.
