Thank you for the review. I pre-ordered this lens when it was announced and have now had it for awhile. Made the decision to get it based on the 75/1.2 that I got for my A6700. Really like ~40mm lenses and glad to see this focal length for APS-C even though it’s a little heavier. The A6700 + 27/1.2 is still lighter in some cases than a full size body + GM so I’m giving it a try. So far so good. Take care.

I got Viltrox 23mm f1.4 and 75mm f1.2 and I’m more than impressed with the sharpness, autofocus, weather sealing on 75mm model and their firmware updates. I would even go as far as saying that it’s better than equivalent sigma models on my sony 6400

I was able to take the first pictures with this lens on March 2nd. I pre-ordered it in December! And YES, you are absolutely right! It's a wonderful lens. Adding to your words in the video, it has incredible low light performance! It works well on my a6700 and also on the ZV-E10! After this powerful lens, I ordered the Viltrox 75mm F1.2 to have the complete holy trinity of Viltrox (along with the 13mm F1.4). Thanks for your review!

After watching your review of the Viltrox 75mm F1.2, I bought that for my a6700 and it's definitely my favorite lens, when I can use it given the focal length. Looks like next time I think about buying a lens it'll be this one, having both the 27 75mm focal lengths would make a nice pair.

Hi, Wanted to know if there are any updates on af performance after firmware update 1.0.4 in dec 23 as people say that it was not reliable for fast moving subjects like birds in the very first firmware? I am in the market for buying one. I currently have sigma 18-50 f2.8 for my a6700, looking to have a prime now-- confused between sigma 56 f1.4 and the this viltrox 75. Performance wise 56 seems to be reliable. Wether sealing, image quality wise viltrox seems better. Also this will add a bigger focal length for my use.

It's equivalent to a 40.5mm f1.8, which is quite nice. I have the Sigma 23mm so I'm interested as well to see, but I imagine it does better at the cost of size and weight.

I am a fan of Viltrox lenses. I currently have the 33mm F1.4 which you reviewed 3 years ago. It practically lives on my a6100. Although i find that the autofocus is not quite as fast as the Sony SEL35mm prime lens.

I remember watching a video of you were explaining about focal lengths. you were showing examples by using a full frame camera with apsc lens first and then full frame camera with full frame lens and how the apsc lens produces the same size image on the sensor as full frame lens but has a vignette. I cant find that video, can someone point me to that video?

I bought this and use it on my A6500, the close focus does not feel like 28cm, more like 20 maybe. In any case, I fully recommend this thing to anyone. The only negative about it is the focus hunting. My Sigma 30/1.4 is much more confident.

Does the focus hunting happen in photography? My Sigma 30mm had a terrible autofocus performance when I was using it with my A5100. The problem was only fixed after I upgraded to an A6400. Would love to hear more of your insights regarding the autofocus performance of the Viltrox 27mm.

@@paulhernandez346 it does, but it's different to what the sigma has on 6500, which has worse AF than the 6400. For me, the firmware update on the sigma fixed a lot of issues, and is great on this camera, and I feel that the viltrox was improved with their firmware update as well. I don't think it's that bad, you will notice it sometimes but less on a 6400 than 6500. I can't say if it will lose you a people shot on the street, but for usual snaps it works well enough.

I pre-ordered this after being somewhat astounded with the 75mm f1.2. It's on my camera most of the time. I also own the amazing 13mm f1.4. I would love if viltrox tackled a zoom lens. I put them up against Sigma now, which is crazy how quickly they have come up the ranks.Ipair this with my A6700.

@@gamadrid I bypassed the 16mm for the 13mm, so I can't answer this. But compared to the 30mm and the 56 mm, it's as good or better. I wanted a wider lens than the 16mm, and, at least not now, I use it for photos. But I'm more than impressed by it. There's a richness to it. Viltrox has a personality. And of course, he shrpness if top notch.

APSC is gaining more and more sense with these kind of optics like the Viltrox 27mm f1.2 and 75mm f1.2. I really start to think that APSC might be actually the sweet spot of the sensor sizes.

I just bought this lens right after watching this review 2 weeks ago, and as somebody who used the Sigma 30mm for 7 years, I can tell you there is just no comparison as far as image quality is concern. This lens is just otherworldly sharp, has significantly less barrel distortion and CA, and performs slightly better in terms of autofocus. The build quality is also far superior with the exception of the flimsy lens hood. The only area that the Sigma is better is portability and weight due to the Viltrox weighing more than twice and being much larger than the Sigma.

an appropriate first lens would be the Sigma 18-50 f/2.8, but if you want a single prime lens to be your only lens, this is a perfect option in my opinion.. unless you prefer wider lenses.. then go for the 16 mm or the 23 mm f/1.4 from Sigma

IMHO, Yes, Sigma 30mm is bad and old compared to a new one like this. It suffers from CA and it isnt as sharp. ps. I used to have 30mm Sigma.

The Sigma is a very capable lens. I own both the Sigma and the Viltrox. I'm going to keep the Sigma for size and weight, but, since I purchased the Viltrox, I haven't used the Sigma.

Depends on how much you use it. For the money and for the size, the Sigma 30mm is still very capable and a bargain. Its not as good as newer sigmas and these viltrox lenses, but its still very good.

Yeah... at about a hundred dollars more than the Sigma it really needs to prove it's worth to me in a comparison of picture quality. A good build is nice and all, but having to carry that thing around all the time... pfew. While i do agree that is gives photos a fullframe look, it also has the dimensions of a fullframe lens. And it also doenst come that cheap

Wow, the quality is real It's metal-build and has full features too (aperture ring, buttons, etc...). The price is the same as Sigma 23mm as well For me, 500+G is a bit too heavy, the size too I am leaning toward Sigma 23mm more (already own one). Even though it's not as bright (F1.2 vs F1.4)
