Viltrox 50mm f1.8 vs Sony 50mm f1.8
Can the Viltrox 50mm f1.8 beat the super cheap Sony 50mm f1.8 FE lens? I take this through a quick photoshoot scenario and video shoot just to test them side by side and see which one is better "out in the field".
The Sony lens performs how a sony lens should. Fast autofocus and reliable with overall pretty decent image performance. The viltrox on the other hand has a few quirks. Image performance is solid but with the photoshoot it had a few autofocus issues. It would not catch onto the model or focus properly a few times during the shoot which became frustrating. I must say if you are a photographer I recommend the Sony lens and if you are a video shooter than the Viltrox lens may be better for you.

Great video Jason. I really enjoy watching your videos because you're a pro that knows what he's talking about. Is that the Sony A7IV you used for the video tests of the model at 2:28 ? Man if that's the case, the A7IV is so amazing and Alexa LF-like in color richness. I have the A7IV and the A7SIII and although I haven't had a chance to fully test the new A7IV, I have noticed the color to be prettier and smoother than the A7SIII. About the color grade, for that scene did you use SLG3 and use a Phantom LUT? Would love if you did a video about your grading process. Cheers.

thank you will. I actually created a LUT that I use on all my videos but it's a base LUT then I tweak the contrast and highlights etc from there. But good video idea as I know this will be helpful

you seem to test the Sony lens with autocorrections on. So the test of ca and vignettes and distortion is misleading…

I used the viltrox on a profesional shot for video. It was not able to keep focus. For a talking head video. Absolute trash. Don`t believe those youtube reviews.

Zeiss 55mm..is masive.. Never think to buy one of those 50mm cheap lenses.. I've been used the zeiss 55 sence 2018 and its never let me down 💆🏽‍♂️

I would check n the sony website for firmware updates. Usually you can connect the camera to the computer or download the firmware to an SD card and do it that way
