I just want something that works well, is relatively lightweight (read: doesn't waste half my RAM) and I can easily configure for what I want, so VS Code is a perfect fit, although for Rust I do have some performance issues with the rust analyzer being slow on startup. My friends who use vim talk with joy about how they've configured their editor which makes me think the reason they like it IS because they like configuring stuff, and to some point, they're proud of the work they've done. A lot of them also go back to "updating their config" (I honestly don't know what that means) periodically, some do it monthly, some do it yearly.

Im learning C for embedded systems, and I'm programming for a few years now as a hobby. If I have my desktop PC I just love coding in Visual Studio 2022, but I can just as well code with nano, and debug with gdb

I think that you can use vim, but not pure vim without plugins, because even with vim everything will be faster (since you won't be using the mouse), then considering that other code editors, for example, automatically close html tags or symbols like quotes or (), , {}, [] and so on, then the time will be almost equal, so vim needs to be used with at least several plugins. I love vim very much because you can use only the keyboard there, but I also love the fact that you can customize it as you like and install the plugins you like.

I've always used vim because it doesn't required to be installed and I could use it in every location.

i see a lot of people say this but objectively it takes less time to use your fingers where they already are placed, instead of moving over to touch the arrow keys or to touch the mouse vscode, jetbrains are fine but in order to learn a more efficient way of typing you need to.. learn the more efficient way of typing the reason the key combinations seem random is because theyre built to be comfortable once you know where they are you wouldnt use ctrl z to undo if you wouldnt already know that, you would probably try ctrl u, and guess what the undo button in vim is

If it gets the job done, it doesn’t matter what you use. Vim is GREAT for me because it fits my development and productivity flow, saves on memory consumption, and if I need work done on a CLI only environment, I know I have vim readily available.

I sublimate code directly from my neurons and into the server in assembly language. It took 3 millennia to learn, and I had to displace the gods of space and time along the way, but it so much quicker.
