Vin Rock is a fantastic interviewee. Good person on the street too. Naughty played a charity basketball game at Gates Park in Waterloo, Iowa earlier in the day before doing an evening concert at a teen club in Cedar Falls, Iowa known as “The Sign “ or it may have been called “Trendsetters” at the time still.

I knew he was gonna say when Kay Gee started producing for other acts. It just seemed like the focus wasn’t there once acts like Next, Jaheim, Koffee Brown, etc., started to emerge. Don’t get me wrong, I love the era of Divine Mill, but by that point, it seemed to me that Naughty was really no more.

@@thanx4askin I’m kinda split there. On one hand, I def understand wanting to grow and evolve. But on the other, like Vinnie said, if Naughty is the foundation of everything you’ve built, I think you do owe it a little more attention. It’s tough. But ultimately, Kay Gee made the decisions he felt he had to.

Treach not launching a solo career in ‘97-‘98 is the biggest career fumble in Hip Hop. He would’ve been HUGE. A group called ‘Naughty By Nature’ with that super early 90s style branding was simply not gonna connect with younger/newer listeners in the 2000s, straight up. KG was the smart one with his eyes on the long game tbh

False . That would've Worked for him if he would have did that between 94-97. Plus He couldn't go Solo because that would be the Same as Him being Naughty by Nature by Nature was and is TREACH as the Rapper. Vinnie Character is that of a Hype man and Backup Rapper.
@blahzay_3 ай бұрын
@@fatherg.o.d.2852 nah. Naughty were still going strong 94-97 era. Solo Treach would’ve been rapping over non-Kay Gee beats….Preemo, Pete Rock, Muggs…..he would’ve had his pick . Kay Gee is the ‘sound’ of NBN just as Treach is the ‘voice’.

Naughty had a great 5 year run in hip hop from 91-96. The bottom line is the level of talent coming from BIG, Nas, Wu-Tang and Jay-Z to name a few was the sign of their rise the end of Naughty by Nature’s dominance which happens. Hip hop always changes and KayGee saw the writing on the wall.

@@NJDEVILS-iz9fo I was a fan of Naughty by Nature. Their dominance was from "O.P.P" in 91 to the "Poverty's Paradise" album run which ended in 96. That was their peak. That's not to say they weren't a factor in rap, and yeah they had a solid Top 40 single with "Jamboree" in 99, but they weren't dominant like Jay-Z, DMX, Eminem, Outkast and the emergence of Southern Rap (Cash Money, No Limit) anymore. That's just the truth.
