Hearing him talk reminds me that I'm not alone in things. And that's the crazy part, a lot of us will struggle and never let on to anyone. Had a major hit years ago and I said the same thing. The way he can just rawdog his way through a fender cut and have it be anywhere as clean as he does it is wild. The tow hook thing, I get it. That was janky. But the owner asked him to lol. RWB Kentucky #1 Dembow here. Thanks for a proper well edited video shedding light on what's seemingly been the cool thing to do lately online is jump on the RWB hate train, yet the people just really believe the chopped and edited videos they see online with Nakai chopping up Porsches. Nakai has always stayed true to his form and hasn't changed a thing. These kits are absolutely quality. They aren't your cheap duraflex ebay body kit. These are thick, heavy duty, single use molds kits made by hand by nakai himself or his 80+ years old helper in Japan. These cars are an absolute blast to drive and I challenge anyone who has anything negative to say to actually see on in the flesh, come push, pull, whatever you want to do to feel the true durability of these kits. They aren't wobbly or flimsy. They are STOUT. At the end of the day, people in public go absolutely nuts over my car. They love and appreciate it and I think that's the truth of how the majority of these people really think about them. In the world of the internet where it's easy to feel like things are saturated and played out, the truth is, an RWB 911 is extremely rare with currently an estimated 1400 or so being built all by nakai himself, you just don't see them ever in the wild and if do, consider yourself fortunate. They truly are a sight to see. Come even talk to us owners about any questions or concerns you may have about the build process and quality. We're always glad to talk cars with haters and lovers of RWB alike.

I remember, in the early 2000's, stumbling upon RWB on an obscure japanese web site before the porsche became the center of attention. His style has always been kind of a "I'm gonna do what I want". In the age of flashy, colorful styling of the early 2000's, he was rocking Flat black and rough around the edges, whether it was his Ae86, S15, or eventually the Stella Artois Porsche. They were never meant to be "Concourse" level builds like Singer and the like. The way I look at it is he's taking a car that is, more often than not, associated with business suits, fine wine, and classical music and making it ripped jeans, rock and roll, beer and cigarettes. If fashion brands can sell pre-ripped and torn jeans to idiots for a premium, no reason Nakai can't do the same. If I had the money and a beat up Porsche 964 I'd do it.

Scotto's 964 is the first RWB I ever saw in person in 2012 at FD Long Beach, I was obsessed with it. The original cars he did for clients in Japan, especially the metal flare cars, are some of the coolest 911s out there. Phil from Driftworks has a 964 Turbo example, it is absolutely mint and performance oriented. And in general the OG RWB projects from over a decade ago in Japan were always exceedingly cool because they were actual race cars! My interest sort of waned when it came stateside. Beautiful cars but sort of diluted from the original racing purity/rawness they had. Shout out to Mark Arcenal for being the first exclusive RWB dealer in the states, I think Nakai got great exposure from that. But the spirit of the product did change from race car to show car at that point. Not Nakai's fault. But as 911s became more precious in recent years, RWB just became show cars instead.

I was contributing to Jalopnik around 2010(ish), and I remember seeing these cars once or twice on that site (and Japanese Bōsōzoku coverage in general). Scotto saying that nobody knew about RWB in 2010 is a gross misstatement., I had a slammed mazda 323 at the time and seriously considered the cut-up fender flare route to get that tucked look with sportier tires after seeing one of these all tarted up.

RWB was *just* starting to gain popularity outside of Japan around that time. I remember back in... 08-09? there were only about a dozen decent resolution photographs of RWB cars easily found on English-language Internet. It was a few photos of Stella, Nojima's AE86, and the matte black S15. Mike Garrett (Auto-Otaku) was one of the first Western bloggers to get primary source photos of RWB cars. Also, at that time, even in 2010, the idea of flying Nakai out to do customer cars was not "a thing". Pandora One and Hoonigan debuted in 2011 IIRC, and it was a very special thing.

Your not looking up when your in the car and im not done building the shit that matters, some day! Cant wait for more content from Scotto! Thanks for the great video and a real take on RWB.

LOVE this! I think i may still have that magazine from when i was 19 and remember drooling over those cars, plus the prices that were quoted in the article...

This was a heavy informative video, yet, it didn't come off that way at all. It was intriguing and kept your attention, from Alex giving you the background and context when he visited Japan, to Scotto driving home what RWB is. I know Scotto knows shit, but this really drove home that he knows so much more than what I thought he know. Scott is in person who he is on the screen, super cool cat.

I've loved Porsche since i was a kid, and a neighbor had a 79' 911 SC...and i was hooked....I've tried to buy a couple Porsches in my late 20's...an 1981 911SC, and a 924...i was in Raleigh NC, for months working in the Research Triangle close to the airport....and lil used car lot had the 81'...the owner of the car, would drive it home every night...and when I found it, i only had like 10 days before I was done in NC, and headed home to Kentucky. So i didn't get to see the car that much, where he drove it home...the thing was khaki-tan with sheepskin covers on the seats with plaid inserts...he wanted 9k$ for the car...on the weekend I was going home, i got ahold of the owner and settled on a time to meet at the car lot...i withdrew 8500...and was going to get the best price i could....i talked him down to 7800$...so now the only thing was to drive it....first i couldn't fit in the car...I'm 6'4" 255lbs...lol So now that the guy knows I'm serious...he's like i know a guy who can set the seats back...but i was leaving the next day...my business partner was going to drive the company car back, and i was going to follow in the Porsche was the plan....So i missed out on my first Porsche because i couldn't fit in it...lol So i did what anyone would do....i went to the outlet mall, between our hotel and the airport RDU, and bought an Omega Speedmaster Moon watch for 6k$....that got stolen out of my house in Lexington on campus of UK....So i ended up with not my favorite car, and not my favorite watch....crazy thing is, i was in the middle of updating my renters insurance to cover my watch when it got stolen....ughhh I graduated high school in 1993, so the Porsche 964 is close to my heart, maybe one of these days...i turn 50 on Christmas eve...i wish these 964's weren't so crazy in price....✌️

I'm finally glad you got to make a video with Scotto, hope you get to bring him on in another video, maybe y'all can cruise in your 360s together! As for the RWB topic I have no hate for Nakai-san and what he does, at the end of the day he's getting to do what he loves and his clients just kind-of steer him into a direction they want. But as Scotto said as you do more and more of the same thing over and over, seemingly trying to one up the other one it starts to lose it's charm. That's why I love Scotto's RWB so much because it was made during a time before social media was a factor and it was just made out of cool vibes. Also it's functional and can go on the track! Can't say the same for a lot of the more-recent RWBs

Scotto's RWB is forever one of my favorite iterations. In terms of whats going in with the whole hate, people love to crop the big picture.

Loved this first car, I remember having this car as my desktop background for a long time, and it actually inspired my current long term project. I think when it comes to clowning RWB, which I have done plenty, it is because of the builds you mention late in the video, the very slick builds with air tanks blocking glued on tow hooks (as Brian indicated). What I learned from the video was to remember the R in RWB. Yes, it's Rough. It's race track aesthetic, and it's punk rock on a brand that was completely stuffy before RWB and Magnus made it cool to a new generation. Thanks for very well done video! PS I'm 6'6" and good to know there's another person out there taller than me driving vintage 911s! Yes, I also cut my sunroof out. :-D
