@justinkeyser91305 жыл бұрын
OK so this song is Thelemic not satanic.. Its based on a ritual called Liber Samekh which was around before lavey. The last part of this song is the ritual verbatim.. It's the ritual that Crowley used to invoke his Daimon and it is the template for the invocation of the Daimon or "personal genius" of a practicing Thelemite. Akophalos is the name of the artists Daimon. This song is a ritual done by the artist as a means of invoking his highest Self. The reason the name "Satan" can be used here and not actually be "Satanic" stems from the way Thelema frames the concept of Deity. That these are names to describe certain psychological processes and phenomena instead of seeing them as actual objective "gods" and "goddesses". Therefore we can use the potencies of the psychological associations of these particular deity as well as the phenomena they represent as " ingredients " if you will, to the desired goal. Any Deity can be used from any religion, Kali, Tahiuti, Aphrodite.. Vedic, Egyptian, Greek.. Any Deity that symbolises the desired force. In this case being libration from restrictions and limitation, as Satan has the psychological association of being both the liberator of man and the opposition to the previously dominant psychic frame of the collective, the patriarchal, oppressive and misanthropic Abrahamic Theologies. "Whirl the wheel". Satan also gives the fruit to man and therefore bestows upon his knowledge. He liberates man in the myth. He is analogous to Prometheus who steals the fire from the gods and gives it to man. The " Sun" reference here in the song represents the spiritual center of man.

The entire album was created as a big middle finger to Poland. Nergal (vocalist/writer) suffered from leukemia before making this album and managed to live through all of this while the majority of the Polish population (58% of Poland identifies as Roman Catholic) told him that he deserved it. Now imagine that your home country tells you that you deserve the pain and suffering that you went through just because of the extreme music you've been making... in all honesty, while I know that the previous Behemoth albums also had a lot of satanic messages, I believe that back then it was all about being rebelious and edgy. ("look at us making extreme music and worhipping satan like the cool kids!!!!") and while I do preffer those albums alot more because of the sound they had, this album had a message for every outcast feeling left down by the environment they're living in. Therefor I believe that modern satanism as portrayed in this song is not about worhsipping the (litteral) devil, but more about standing up for yourself and all the other people that feel left out by society. ((excuse me for my english))

The Bornless one is not Satan. "The Book of the Goetia of Solomon the King"- edited by Aleister Crowley, has a ritual used to invoke “The Bornless One”, a spirit that both good and evil are passive toward. Using the Bornless one you can speak with Spirits, angels and Demons. "Hear Me, and make all Spirits subject unto Me: so that every Spirit of the Firmament and of the Ether; upon the Earth and under the Earth: on dry Land and in the Water: of Whirling Air, and of rushing Fire: and every Spell and Scourge of God may be obedient unto Me." is from "The Bornless one Ritual" "Thou spiritual Sun! Satan, Thou Eye, Thou Lust! Cry aloud! Cry aloud! Whirl the Wheel, O my Father, O Satan, O Sun! Thou, the Saviour! Silence! Give me Thy Secret! Give me suck, Thou Phallus, Thou Sun! Satan, thou Eye, thou Lust! Satan, thou Eye, thou Lust! Satan, thou Eye, thou Lust! Thou self-caused, self-determined, exalted, Most High!" is a quote from "Magick Book IV : Liber ABA" by Aleister Crowley from Ch. 21 : Of Pacts with the Devil So i interpret the the song as a guide on how to make a pact with Satan. but then again i could be way off, this could be just a song of admiration for Aleister Crowley by Nergal , after all this is art. -sincerely, your friendly neighborhood Satanist

The Bornless Ritual isn't a guide to make a pact with Satan. That's a christian idea. The Bornless Ritual, from the Liber Samekh is the re-pagination of an ancient egyptian ritual for exorcism, brought up by Aleister Crowley for the attainment of the Knowledge and Conversation with the Holy Guardian Angel, God's messenger and the Higher Self, a concept taken from the medieval grimoire "The Book of the Sacred Magic of Abramelin the Mage". That's thelemic holy music.

In fact you can go far beyond in the concept of the Bornless one. Take this point as a starter: All religions came from lenguage and different form of divinity. The image of PAN, in the Greek mythos, talk to us about an entity that existed before lenguage, representing the wild nature of human kind. Then, callin on to the bornless one is a direct call on that figure that tends to be linked with the primordial void. So in fact what Aleister did, was connecting his spirit with Pan. Read about it on "The Soma" and " The book of the horned one" . :))!

@@VinAndSori you can never tell how truly genius someone is unless your understanding surpasses theirs and that is highly unlikely and visibly evident as such. From the perspective of someone who is mediocre(like yourself), true genius will never be seen as such. There are many many assumptions which cripple your ability to truly break down the song as intended. Someone of your identity(being Christian) will ultimately never grasp the full issue at hand unless you were to be genuinely introspective in an open and honest sense but being Christian, ironically, that will never happen. Jesus has fogged your vision and he has deceived you for all time for he has always been the satan you say you shoo off. One day you may find out how much you have served satan within your own beliefs, and further more that those who openly give thanks to “satan”(nature, biology, and chaos) are counter intuitively worshipping the one and only God as being truly divine. If you do become aware enough to make such conclusions, you’ll realize that the whole story is flipped on its head and the implications are exactly opposite of what you intent, for Jesus and his god are merely the Demi urge which “formed a heaven of what it stole from the abyss” -William Blake. “Jesus” is satan and “satan” is God, the deceiver has led you to believe that he is the one who is most divine when that is something the deceiver would say.

I think Behemoth's "Satan" is more of a neo-pagan or Wiccan metaphor. They refer to the father, like Odin - the all-father of the Norse gods, the god of wisdom and poetry, who was also known as The Wanderer, as he disguised himself as a wanderer in the Gylfaginning story. The song refers to "thou wanderer, father of all". Then they refer to the sun, like Ra and Apollo, the Egyptian and Greek gods of the sun. "Agathos Daimon" is also spoken of. Agathodaemon is a spirit of vineyards and grain in Greek mythology. "Whirl the wheel, O my father, O Satan, O Sun" - the wheel is a symbol for the year and cycle of the seasons in many neo-pagan religions. In Wiccan neo-paganism, there is a ritual called "Drawing down the Sun" and in the song, the singer says "bring down the sun". This is a ritual to gain strength from the sun god. "Faustian luminary" - Faustian being someone who sacrifices them self or their soul, but a luminary is a light-giving object, such as the sun or the moon. So this implies embracing the power of the sun, or perhaps a sun-god, I would say. I don't believe this is worship of a literal biblical, "evil" Satan, though there are biblical references, but I believe much of it is also poetic device. This "Satan" is more a metaphor for the sun, the bringer of warmth, life, crops - "ignite the seed" etc. The sun is the bornless one in the sense that, as far as human history is concerned, the sun has always existed and has never been born. This song seems to be a mash-up of pagan and neo-pagan mythology, combined with Christian imagery too. I think the songwriter is well aware of the depth of Christianity in his terminology. I think he embraces it all. For him, God, Satan, the Sun, Ra, Apollo, the Universe, Odin - they are all one and the same. Just opinions though. *23

if you read upon other lyrics of BEHEMOTH and also dig into some interviews (not only behemoth, but also other black metal bands that cover that subject lyrically) you can see that you are on point with your thoughts. in general, if you get into "occult" knowledge or also satan being compared to Set or Loki in egyptian and norse mythology/religion, you begin to grasp th concept or allegory the tales tell you. "Occult" means literally covered, so the meaning is covered in religious tales. There is no real deity of god or satan. Instead, it is about life. Both reside in us. No one can say they are no sinner a 100%. Everyone was "evil" in some way or another. But also every human being is capable of love, forgiveness or reformation. the mythological stories are just archetypes at play that shall teach us how to live a good life or how to bring structure and order into a cosmos that by very definition lends towards chaos. Life itself, seem from a biochemical standpoint, is nothing else: The emergence of order from chaos at the cost of energy that is needed to maintain that order.

@blazRa they're actually Polish, not Norwegian. Great original comment and quite accurate. You might find that a lot of the Black metal Satanism is actually more about a rebellion against Christianity which was a middle eastern forced religion bringing repression upon the traditional European belief systems. Adam 'Nergal' Darski the lead singer for Behemoth is very outspoken about the repression of the Christian government in Poland, drawing the attention of the authorities more than once. Very interesting guy and quite a positive character.

So I'm not a Satanist, but I looked into it for a bit and I've had friends who are. My understanding is that it's not even as intense as "You can become Satan". It's just that a lot of people view Satan is a symbol of freedom from a biblical sense of guilt and shame over being human. A lot of it is the thought of "Why should enjoying life be considered a sin? I shouldn't feel ashamed to want food or sex etc.". Satan's just a representation. Also, they still have some tenets that pretty much come down to "Do what makes you happy, don't bother people, and don't hurt anyone- especially children." It's really not as extreme as people think. It's just hedonism with a mascot. I've said it before, but I really dig that you guys were able to just say "This was really cool music"! All you are doing by portraying a false symbol as a gimmick is to just stir trouble and be an asshole to other groups. If you want to 'live and let live', then respect for other's beliefs should be part of that. Throwing 'Satan' who you don't believe in, in someone's face falsely is just being a shit disturber at best and a hypocrite.
@OriginalWhiteTornado6 жыл бұрын
I'm totally guessing, but I think it's a few reasons. One is that a lot of people who turn to Satanism grew up in an oppressively Christian environment. When you're constricted in a certain way, you want to push back accordingly. Christian values condemning pride and lust and all that are turned into hedonism where these are all things to celebrate. It's kind of a way to be like "You tried to make me X, so I took that and twisted it into something else." Satan was a pre-existing figure, so he's easy to draw from. Another is that it just helps to have a symbol. If Satan is the inverse of god and god says to deny lust and pride, etc., then Satan is to celebrate it. It's just a convenient figure who happens to fit the values that you want to embrace. I also think that Satanism has a strict stance towards embracing individualism and personal growth and opposing anything that would hinder that. I think people would consider strict tenets like those in Christianity to be hindering their individualistic expression and growth so some may not feel be bothered by seeming disrespectful. I'm not taking any stances in saying all this. This is just my general idea from what I've read.

The thing about Behemoth is that their lyrical content is completely steeped in Nergal's (vocalist) knowledge of the Occult. The Occult being a body of knowledge which is hidden or mystical (hence the name "Occult") and a body of knowledge which is NOT at all rooted in any way in Satanism. Things like Kabbalah (the ancient Hebrew occult tradition) and Hermeticism fall under the umbrella term of Occultism. So to even half-way understand the lyrical content of Behemoth one would have to study in depth the wealth of knowledge within the many traditions and philosophies of the Occult. Nergal, as well as the other members of Behemoth DO NOT believe in a literal devil, they believe Satan is an archetypal figure standing for a certain type of spiritual, physical and intellectual freedom who shares traits with the likes of mythological figures such as Prometheus. The message of Behemoth is primarily "think for yourself, look deeper and question everything, then create your own path." I was a christian for many years until I decided to study the knowledge of the Occult. It changed my life and allowed me the courage to confront my doubts and my questions about life. I love Behemoth because they stand for true freedom from bondage of any kind, they simply express this in a radical way which is meant to be thought provoking. Music with a message folks.

as well there is Kryzstof Azarewicz who is a thelemite and a incredibly intelligent, scholarly fellow and he has also written many of the lyrics for Behemoth - if you learn about the concepts and philosophy of Magick and Will that Crowley wrote so much upon then you can also find alot of further meaningin Behemoths lyrics in fact in this song much of the lyrics are straight from Crowleys rendition of the Bornless Ritual (Ritual of the Headless one), Liber Samekh - i ritual to help bring about one's knowledge and conversation with their Holy Guardian Angel, a kind of sped up version of the Abramelin

Behemoth are one of my favourite bands. Most of the reaction videos I've seen about their music is Christians over exaggerating about the words and saying how bad it is. Was good to see how open minded you both are
@connorrekdahl37543 жыл бұрын
They’re far less open minded then they appear. Their position is riddled with assumptions that really restrict them from making any profound judgments about the subject matter. They appear open but that’s the face they are playing as Christians. They are still fundamentalists ultimately and that will mentally imprison them until or if they outgrow that

Well, they are totally different bands, Opeth have hit their stride 20 years ago and they've always been delivering ever since and they constantly got of their comfort zone and always succeeded, to the point where the last couple of albums can be easily categorized as a mixture between progressive rock and Jazz fusion. Behemoth on the other hand while they've actually launched their career with Opeth they haven't really struck gold until they released The Satanist -sure there are couple of good tracks here and there- which is one of the best metal albums ever, period. To recap, two different bands with different genres and history.

Well, Behemoth actually were black metal. Their demos and two first albums. Then they changed into Blackened Death. They sound different, especially if compared to the so called "True" Black. "True" Black is minimalistic, often has lo-fi recording, which is why it's also called Raw Black metal. Black metal bands tend to favor raspy, high-pitched vocals,like screaming and such, growling (almost like in this song) is rare, but also present. Lyrics include Satanism, Paganism (well, it's Paganism to Christians, to them it's theirs faith and beliefs), occult themes, war, nature, misantropy. If you put more depression and sorrow and misanthropy, add suicide in the mix and decrease the speed of playing (also greatly increasing the time to get very long song), you'll get DSBM - Depressive Suicidal Black metal. Something like that. I will not talk about subgenres, it's too long to write. P.S. I'm Russian therefore English isn't my native language therefore there will be mistakes. P.P.S. Guys, you are great. Intelligent, open to something new, analyzing, analytical, objective and so on. Would love to see more of you!

A created being can still be "bornless" if it dwells outside of linear spacetime. As for Satan being a creation of Yahweh, that can be disputed. Jewish kabalistic mysticism does actually give an origin for Yahweh(God as Christians call him). Yahweh emanated/ emerged from Ain(the No-Thing) & from him emanated the Sephirot also known as the heavens or the angelic realms. Satan emanated from Ain independently in opposition to Yahweh & from Satan emanated the Qliphoth/The Hells. Most serious Theistic Satanists(including myself) take from Jewish Mysticism(which itself has strong connections to Greek pythagorean mystery cults) which gives a very different image of what Satan is. In this context, Satan is not a fallen angel & demons are not even remotely comprised of the same "substance" as angels. This Satan, never became The Devil through being casted out, but rather, is primordial & has ALWAYS been the way he is. & This band is absolutely (or at least Nergal who writes the lyrics) all about actual belief in Satan. Whirl the wheel refers to the Sun Wheel count counter-clockwise; a wheel of counter-creation that seeks to unravel & reverse-engineer creations of Yahweh. I hope this brings some clarification as to where Behemoth may be coming from, I could type on this topic for hours but I quite frankly don't feel like laying out every detail on Theistic Satanism & it's different aspects & forms, but what I've said should suffice & make more sense of these lyrics.
@VinAndSori6 жыл бұрын
Yea I’m familiar with kabalistic religion, the issue is at least in this song is that there are no real allusions to kabala in the song. As a matter of fact there are explicit allusions to the new t (delineated in the video) so thats where the derivative comment comes from
@MaliceEVile-cl6pj6 жыл бұрын
There are certainly blasphemous elements in the lyrics in regards to the new t but the bit on turning the wheel is a direct reference to the Black Sun of Daath/The Wheel of Counter-creation which is a kabalistic concept that can be found in the Sephirotic Tree of Life & the Qliphotic Tree of Death(& in the Tree of Life Daath is a portal that takes you to the Tree of Death). Also, the reference to Cain can have Kabalistic implications. In Anti-Cosmic Satanism Cain is called Qayin & is considered The First Satanist & Witchfather, & he can guide Satanists through the Tree of Death, & is particularly helpful in going from the realm of Satariel(the saturn sphere, ruled by Lucifuge, which can be accessed through Daath), to the realm of Thaumiel(sphere of both Neptune & Pluto, ruled by Satan & Moloch; the Satanic equivalent to the Godhead Sephirot Kether ruled by Yahweh & Metatron). I actually know a lot about Behemoth as people & I know for a fact the lyricist is an Anti-Cosmic Satanist. And for some fun trivia, the lyricist/singer/lead guitarist is a smart mofo who took 6 years of history at university, he's a qualified museum curator.

I believe you are correct. God created man. Then man created Satan when they ate the forbidden fruit (knowledge of good and evil). Christ returns to change the HEARTS of men, which banishes Satan to the 'Lake of Fire'. 'Hell' is the worst thing the human EGO (sinful nature) can imagine: being forgotten.
@TheSimonScowl6 жыл бұрын
Kabbalah is technical/wonky. Western '"Christianity' is simplified and symbolic. But the same concepts are there.

In all honesty I believe in some sort of higher being and I even think they have a lot of faith in God, like the whole demons making u stub ya toe or all that shit. I jus think there's sumone higher than us and all that bible shit was created to entrap humans in social behaviors, to modernize in a sense or moralize. I think if there is a god he doesn't really care about us more just let us do our thing, and we as humans will evolve to a more conscious thought. I hope there's a heaven but the chances of it are slim, ain't no issue in hoping and even believing something there as long as you don't force it down someone else's throat

I can't speak for the members of Behemoth because I'm not in their heads and I've never watched any of their interviews, but many black metal bands (even back in the day) are not so much about praising Satan but about anti-christianity. From interviews to satanists that I've seen, they don't like all the damage that christianity has done throughout the centuries. How they are all in their high horses of moral superiority when they are just as twisted and wretched as everybody else. However, most modern satanists are actually atheists, so they don't praise Satan, because they don't even believe it exists. Back to music, for many other bands, it isn't even about religion. It's more about the ambient and sound landscapes that black metal creates. It's more of a cinematic experience, like you said. Just like someone who makes a movie about a demonic possession is not necessarily a satanist and someone who makes a slasher movie isn't necessarily a psychopath, the same applies to black and death metal bands, respectively. In fact, going back to the ambient part, there is a whole subgenre call atmospheric black metal (which I personally find beautiful) that focuses more on the paganism side of black metal often in terms of praising nature, like ancient religions did. Finally, the reason why satanism borrows so much from christianity is because they want to twist it and deform it and mock it and insult it, and what better way to do it than to take christian symbolism, passages from the bible, etc. and make them their own. Which is why the symbol of the Anti-Christ is an upside down cross, the witching hour or devil's hour is 3 a.m. (because Jesus was crucified at 3 p.m.), etc. Disclaimer: I am an agnostic atheist, but I was raised Catholic in a Catholic country, I went to a Catholic school and a Catholic university.

The band you couldn't remember is Mayhem. Euronymous didn't take satanism seriously. Varg Vikerens who was on bass at the time is a raving lunatic, stabbed him to death, claiming self defense. The singer that shot himself had cotard's delusion (google it). A picture was taken, but they themselves didn't use it as an album cover. Someone outside the band got a hold of it and used it for a BOOTLEG live recording, Dawn of the Black Hearts. Mayhem isn't satanic, or rather, they talked about it a bit, before later lineups moved on to war and real world problems. 2nd wave black metal wasn't strictly satanic, few bands were, they were pagan, in that they believed in their ancestors' beliefs.

it is interesting how they state that satan is dependent on god to exist, yet the opposite is also true. i mean it is merely the thought of satan and eternal damnation which inspires running towards "milk and honey". But anyway like they said behemoth is truly poetic, and their vehemence and intelligent music is why they're in my top five. and also i dont appreciate how they were just hammering the concept of the "bornless one". not everything is black and white. There are subtleties to concepts. For me bornless one can be feeling without an acceptable beginning, or one of your perceived standard.

23**. As an atheist and fan of behemoth, I found this really interesting to listen to neutrally. I'm not really sure if Behemoth are serious devil worshipers, or just edgy guys whose tight ass catholic parents drove them away from Christianity, but if they are honest to God Satan lovers, I do think that they have relatively different beliefs about Satan, God, and their roles in the universe (bornless one, Satan is eternal and such yadda yadda). From what I have read of their lyrics, and kind of assumed myself, it seems they view Satan as a true embodiment of freedom, and feel like God manipulates them and ties them down. Kind of a "Why shouldn't we have the knowledge of good and evil" attitude. They don't seem to genuinely be evil like Euronymous, or Varg (the band was Mayhem btw), I think they view Satan as, if not a force of good, then at least as a neutral force of nature or something like that. I dont know its 5am and your video has already kept me up past my bedtime so this may seem like kind of a ramble, dont mind me. Seriously, aside form the whole worshiping the devil, Nergal is a pretty swell guy.

This indeed is very different from Cradle Of Filth ^^ I am not a pure satanist and definately not a follower of Lavey's ideas, but I would like to comment on (and somewhat defend) the understanding of Lavey's "Do What Thou Wilt..." It comes from, or at least is inspired by Thelema. An earlier post from someone way more knowledgable about it than me explains a lot about it. Big in Thelema is one's True Will. As I probably put it very crudely. It's not about just doing whatever you want on a low and childish level. It is about discovering your own true path and direction.

We don’t condone any person or living creatures of any kind to shed their blood for a higher being... because we don’t believe in violence. Anything that lives must be protected to its fullest. We live in plain sight and we communicate from afar with each other with symbols. I work for a massive corporation and through that I pass my my message to all humans I interact with. So we actually don’t want to be identified as satanist because that has no actual relevance to our beliefs and or behavior. I thank you both for respecting even those of the satanic community. We don’t need to understand or identify completely with others, all we can do is accept all people as the are and adjust ourselves to them if we choose to belong to their existence.

Glad you brought up how Satanists don't actually believe in Satan as an actual entity or even worship him at all, instead they're all about Individualism, and if you want to get political they share a lot of the same views with libertarianism, with some differences, if you watch interviews with Nergal (singer/song writer of Behemoth) he's the perfect example of what a Satanist really is. They aren't evil people that worship the Devil, recommend reading the Satanic Bible, I'm a Pastafarian (so basically an Atheist since FSMism is a joke religion) but I love Mythology, Philosophy, Religion, etc.

this is LaVey satanism. there are more types of satanism, there are also those who believe Satan is real and it's the actual one who gave knowlege and freedom to human kind, but it's not worshipping at all it's more like Satan is the teacher and satanists his students, cause if there is just one thing all kinds of satanism have in common is freedom and being free, free from the chains of ignorance christianity brings with itself, free from society judgment, free from moral rules that, once again, christianity likes so fucking much (and I'm not talking about killing and raping children, things that LOL the church does and loves, I'm talking about being respectful of other's boudaries but doing whatever you want). the one that everyone is scared about and that true satanists hate is "acid satanism" which basically is just an excuse for criminals to be criminals "in the name of satan", not even fundamentalists, just dickheads. do people who make rituals and black masses and evoke demons exist? sure. is it true? lol not for me, for me it's the same magical bullshits christians do, hell I'm an atheist! but i do love Satan as a philosophical figure and I love the Baphomet figure (the famous one from Eliphas Levi) that it's basically a cooler and spookier version of the yin and yang thing

Behemoth are pretty much the kings of pure Black Metal. Their vocal style is deeper and more growly and harsh. Cradle of Filth has shriekier lyrics, which does fall into Extreme Metal. 7:49 This part is why i love behemoth and Nergal's genius mix, match and mash in his writings. Taken from Aliester Crowley's work and done with such finesse and beauty. A tribute, an homage whatever you wanna call it. Im obsessed with this song, especially this sermon part and no, i don't believe in Satan or the devil whatever. It's all myth to me and it's fun to read, watch or listen to. That's it. Black metal was and is a major escape for me when i left religion (islam). The idea to think, question everything and be open. Metal gave me that. \m/

Yes. The band you're talking about is Mayhem. The man that took the picture is Euronynous (kind of a play between Anonymous and European). Not counting on the fact that he took pieces of Dead's skull and distributed amongst some people on the scene back in those days. And then, two years later, he was killed by Varg Vikernes with the 23 stabs.

interesting lyrical analysis, not many people take the time to try and understand the lyrics specially in extreme metal, you should check out "Ora Pro Nobis Lucifer" or "Ben Sahar" also by Behemoth.

Fun to see the beginning of your Behemoth journey. I watched them perform in Toronto last night and of course, they played this song. They are an entertaining band onstage and full of theatre. Still would love to see your reaction to Dissection: "Where Dead Angels Lie". Cheers

First of all, I just want to say that I really like your reactions and the dialogue that comes with them. Vin, I think you're a very smart and intelectual man whose opinions and comments are very well justified, nevertheless, you are kinda confused about what the philosophy of the so called "True Norwegian Black Metal" bands was. These bands (Burzum, Emperor, Mayhem, Dark Throne) weren't of a satanic/stanist philosophy, but of an Odinism/Pagan one but with a really heavy load of anti-christian idiology (this is where the confusion lies about them being satanists). I really recommend you to watch the documentary called "Until The Light Take Us", which talks and shows interviews with the very original founders of these bands. Keep on with the good work, and GB.

tbh that whole ''who had the better metal'' seems pretty irrelevant to me, i dont think you should think of opeth going with that mindset, behemoth and opeth are completly different, two different flavours, one is very straight foward and the other is more about the atmosphere and layering the sounds. There is definetly value in both but i suggest you don't go with that mindset while listening to ghost of perdition. Just my thoughts, hope you don't take this the wrong way vin.

Easter doesn't come from Ishtar lol. You saw that on some FB post. and The torah was written by Rabbis who at points said raping and murdering gentiles is ok. Christ came to fullfill the Old Testament. He did not steal from pegan religions and theres more proof to his existence than Julius Caesar. And they didn't steal from Rome. Rome actually was shaken by the resurrection and Rome didn't want religion as state was the dogma. Almost all apostles were murdered over what a lie? I used to be an occultist and before practicing magick, satanism, and was met by satan himself and demons and angels and eventually at the right point christ found me. If peganism is so great why are there so many exorcisms in Africa where pegan "demon" worship is abundant. God bless you

Nice review. Too bad I 'm not English mother tongue so I found some parts hard to catch. BTW I Appreciate that you separated the music from the words and the aestethic from the meaning. It's a really good approach to get into it layer by layer. It would be great to hear such a deep review on more interesting and deep lyrics in black metal. My suggestion goes to an all time black metal classic: "With strength I burn" by Emperor.

The "riff" is a (typically) two-measure/eight beat measure, which is different in faster song, that distinguishes a passage in a movement that isn't as long as a solo, musical piece from another. A Lick is a much smaller piece of solo strutting that isn't as long as an actual solo, This is like a "filler" in drumming. Behemoth IS "Black Metal" but expansive like Iron Maiden but is satanistic in lyric and atmosphere. Opeth has that Scandinavian darkness about existence (death metal) but not actually stanistic. There are fine lines, but MY definitions (not the only one) do not depart much from the general. There are too many great bands to let any only define any genre.
@VinAndSori6 жыл бұрын
I agree .... so are we right? Is behemoth bm?
@TheDeist1006 жыл бұрын
The only clear distinction (and many would disagree) is the slower beat being possible with the heavy dark synths creating the atmosphere. As far as BM vs, DM; there is no appeal to power...DM treats the subject of Satan as simply part of the dynamic, not one to appeal to. Slayer, for example, discusses God and Satan in many ways (though they are the prototypes for both) yet evil in Slayer is remarked upon, not appealed to.
@zockor6 жыл бұрын
The purest ones will say that it is blackened death metal, but there are so many subgenera and variations that even the bands change their sound in each disc, that makes them difficult to classify in 1 genre, but in general terms yes, it is black metal.
@Smithysmithin6 жыл бұрын
Blackened death metal. Basically they take from black metal, while maintaining a death metal sound. And that also distinguishes them from others. Both death metal, as death metal isnt naturally satanic, and if so is blackened death metal. And it also differs from black metal, in the fact that they have a death metal sound. True black metal is very distinguishable. Its recording quality is normally very low, with a bunch of reverb. Some people enjoy it, idk why. Its not the satanic aspect that turns me off, cause i love Behemoth based solely on sound and their songwriting is phenomenal. Its the sound of black metal that hurts my ears haha. Its super low quality, but some people enjoy that.

*23 Interesting video, and I appreciate you guys keeping an open mind. Behemoth is one of my favorite bands, and it was a pleasure hearing the opinion of a couple of open minded Christians speak about Behemoth's lyrics. I would enjoy very much to hear you guys do a video on the band Dissection. I'm a big fan of the band, but they are in my opinion way more satanic than Behemoth. The vocalist/guitarist Jon Nödtveidt was a member of a satanic group called Temple of the Black Light, and he along with another member of TOTBL named Vlad killed a homosexual man. The case is called The Keillers Park Murders, and was a very famous Swedish criminal case. After Jon's release from prison he reformed Dissection, and recorded their last album Reinkaos. The lyrics to Reinkaos was co written by Frater Nemidal who was The Temple of The Black Light's magister who wrote the modern grimoire "Liber Azerate" which Reinkaos served as a musical companion to the writings. Two years after the album was released Jon killed himself by an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound inside a circle of lit candles. He was also apparently holding a copy of Liber Azerate. I feel like "Starless Aeon" would be a great song to cover due to the fact it was on the last album Reinkaos, and ties in with his personal beliefs which I find fascinating, or the more popular Dissection track "Where Dead Angels Lie".

It's true, Luciferianism is not original....because it's an inversion of christianity, with the same princliples; that there are actual gods and angels out there. LaVey, on the other hand, took christianity and mocked it, in an Atheistic way, taking bits from Ayn Rand, Blackbeard, Jack London, and the Norse Havamal....he pretty much called it Satanism because it's stimulating and fun. LaVey was really into self-help too.....very interesting breakdown :)

Behemoth started out as black metal, but has become more and more death metal with each album, culminating with this one. There's still traces of it in the lyrics of course, but musically there is nothing black metal about this song. Also, comparing this to Opeth is very silly.

Yeah I think Behemoth is more Black & Death , when I think black metal I think of Nargaroth, Burzum, Mayhem, Gorgoroth, Carpathians Forest. And as soon as u dig into black metal ud also see that its not SUBJECTIVE, its based on the sound of the band, like Nargaroth, Burzum and Mayhem have never been Satanic, yet they are some of the best black metal bands. Behemoth doesn't have the sound for only Black Metal, They are defnitly Black and Death, I don't listen to Opeth much, but this defnitly can't compare to them, neither any of the really black metal bands

It is inaccurate but one funny thing is that Opeth’s vocalist amd Nergal use the same growling technique, which is fairly uncommon and very damaging to the throat.
