You sure aren't kidding! Eight years later now, in 2023, the prices of even the relatively common synths in Vince's collection have skyrocketed ever faster, let alone those of the rarities. The Jupiter-8 is up to $25,000 with some people asking for over $30,000, so imagine what the really rare synths, like the ARP 2500, must be worth. It could be $100,000 or more, each.

The trouble is everybody has jumped on the bandwagon and over priced the likes of Jupiter 8's. Not even the Jupiter X is bringing the price of them down. Vince was lucky to get all those synths when they were affordable. I want a Jupiter 8 not because of it's value but to actually use

@@jaggass Vince bought some of his relics when they were new. It certainly pays to get things early, although for some things, like analog synthesizers, as it has turned out, it's even better when you can get them while they're being discarded. For example, Daniel Miller got his EMS Synthi 100 for free!🤯 And I bet the story behind Vince's ARP 2500 is similar--he probably picked it up for a song (pun definitely intended) from a university music department somewhere that was clearing out old equipment. I wish I had a Jupiter-8, too. I've only played with VSTs so far, but this particular synth is one that I immediately liked and was able to make great sounds on effortlessly. I don't know why, but it took me longer to learn how to effectively use other synths, whether they were simpler (including the Minimoog, Juno-6/60/106, Pro-One) or more complex. I just love using it, and of course how it sounds. Unfortunately, I'll just have to settle for emulations, whether on the computer or something like the Jupiter-X or System-8. Or wait to see what Behringer do. 😄 By the way, oddly Vince once said that he didn't like the Jupiter-8 much (while he loves the Juno-60). He bought his to use on the Phantasmagorical Entertainment tour (for _Chorus_ of course), since it has a patch memory and is very roadworthy, but he seemed to say or imply that it was hard for him to get good sounds out of it. I guess we're all different, if we needed a reminder. Perhaps he has changed his mind since then, however, since he still has his Jupiter-8 and the MKS-80 rack-mount version (with the MPG-80 programmer). These days, anything he doesn't like goes, including the highly coveted Moog 55 Modular that he sold before doing this interview.

Vince was one of the few that didn't sell all of his analog gear for digital ones even though he did use a Casio CZ101 i think, Roland 707/727 etc on early Erasure albums before going back to analog due to tighter timing. My biggest regrets was buying a Juno 6 and 106 restoring them and then selling them on and that was only 5 yrs ago when prices were steady. Luckily i got over that and made money on them anyway. These days some synths are just overpriced
