Vince was wrong about XS having a slightly more tension (lights or mediums) than regular lights or mediums (P.B.).. In fact the XS have about 5 lb less tension than a regular set of D'Addarios.

John and Vince, you should know that these old 30's Martin's do have a truss rod..actually a T-Bar to strengthen the neck. non adjustable though ..The adjustable neck truss rod did not come into production by Martin until 1985.

Watching Vince play and sing with my Dad's old guitar on the Grand Ole Opry stage could not have honored my Mom & Dad's memory any more. They loved to sing and play country music together their whole lives with that same Martin D18 guitar. My family is so incredibly honored that Vince is now the keeper of that memory which still lives on with him. Thank you, Vince.

Yes, me too - I was watching a consert with Mark Knopfler and " The Notting Hillbillies" and Paul Franklin played the steel. Not the usual old guy with cowboy hat, lots of rhinestone-rings and "crying steelguitar", but a young man with a fancy shirt and a ponytail. The exact moment I decided to get a pedal steel was the solo on "When it comes to you". Mark Knopfler starts off on a solo, and he is not known for his poor tone...... But when Paul Franklin takes over you could (can, the clip is still on youtube) really hear the massive difference, the steel fills the entire hall with a sustain that lasted forever and the telecaster sounded like a muted banjo compared to the steel guitar.

I was lucky to see the Time Jumpers one night....I cried the whole time. Paul Franklin took a solo on this one slow number...three or 4 choruses. After the 2nd pass I thought..."wow..this was an amazing solo...no one can top this!!"...he then played 2 more choruses, each one sounding better than the next. It brought the house down...I cried so hard..tears of pure joy. I'd never heard anything like it before or since. Vince and band were on fire...just an incredible evening I will never forget.
