Indeed, the Irish got it! See how I saw that little anecdote about a taxi driver didn't come from him, if he even took a taxi,that is. I'd put $$ on it, she advised him, say this n it will go down well with the medicine. "Get them inside a bit, sure u be grand" Plot twist: Klaus: n she suddenly dine at different tables later. It's too shocking that two treaty's, correct me if I'm wrong, were forced on Irish? * Now think "voting machines"!!!!!!!!!!! ;-) Anything clearer.? She'd be more suited to herding that trying to play the devil's "advocate" in front of her own peers n fellows. And worse,0.17, "I'm impressed Irish ppl aware" One huge condescending Get. Prk Shameful. Fair play to Mr. Vincent Brown. He didn't fall for the "taxi BS".

Miquel Cas Hmm, let's see... 1. 3/4 of the memorandum is the "good part". 2. He signed on 20/02/2015 an agreement which paved the way for the 3rd memorandum, in which the new Greek Government accepted everything the "anti-establishment" SYRIZA rejected before elected as a government. 3. Went to "negotiate" a cut of more than 50% of the debt, as SYRIZA claimed, while keeping on paying that debt! In fact, the Government drained every money deposit from local government, universities, hospitals and other sectors, a decision that proved disastrous. 4. Indulged in the idea of austerity by "negotiating" austerity measures. 5. That man claimed many times, directly or indirectly, that Greece can't stand on her own. You never say that. 5. He was the one who was planning the "double" or "parallel" currency, similar to the destructive Californian "IOUs" in 2009. 6. He signed a law imposing restrictions on banking activities, with a result of restraining the money of Greeks in the banks. It is assigned to the ECB to make sure banks are properly operating and provide them with sufficient money flow. This was an illegal decision and was a Governmental decision. Are those enough or should I go on?
@senios78 жыл бұрын
Varoufakis actions was all on the good strategic course. 20 February agreement was huge gain, because you need time to negotiate. Paying while negotiating can be theoretically questionable but he didn't want to do negotiations with closed banks. If his government was willing to deny payments, he was gonna stop payments after June. His plan was great. EU out maneuvered Greek government with the coup. With closing banks while referendum was called, without giving a week delay to the June payment. That didn't changed referendum result, but changed final negotiations objectives. Maybe Varoufakis was a bit naive not expecting the coup. For sure markets didn't dropped his way. Leverage wasn't on Greece side. Don't blame yanis

Why is the ECB, a private organization, even recognized as an official institution with basically a monopoly on the issuing of our national currency? I would love to be able to pull all the crap they pull with my company. So, in perfect analogy with the EU, I can just have a referendum between a handful of friends of mine, and if they sign a treaty, without any actual voting by any actual citizens, that would give me the right to tax everyone in the EU to finance my organization, right? This sounds like a pretty solid business plan. Why do I end up in jail for having my buddies sign a piece of paper that grants me the right to steal from people, and these guys don't?

The actual ANSWER to the question is of-course this: the banks OWN the government of Ireland and the PEOPLE of Ireland are being held HOSTAGE to a HOSTILE LEVERAGED TAKEOVER of their nation. This is like an equity investment fund coming up with a hostile take-over offer of a business and then selling parts of it or trying to restructure it, but in this case the restructuring is placed squarely on the shoulders of the citizens of Ireland (Greece, etc.), and the bondholders (banks) are made whole

@MrVultcher German taxpayers shouldn't take a hit for Anglo. Neither should the Irish. The bank bailout was done on false info, should not have been renewed, and there is no legal obligation to pay out unsecured bondholders when the bank is bankrupt. The idea that the German taxpayer should put up with their government lending money to the Irish govt to repay speculators, and then the Irish taxpayer carries the can is ridiculous and contrary to the rules of investment and democracy.

@caseta and what about Ireland? The people of Ireland didn't default on their debts. It was the banks who lobbied for lax regulations, it was the developers who overbuilt, and were left with ghost estates, and it was the bondholders who lent money into what was obviously a bad deal (housing demand had already peaked when the regulations were relaxed), so why should the Irish taxpayer, and not the individual bondholders pay up for this bad investment? Why should we pay for their "meal"?

@caseta well then there's countries which are always on the paying side. For example I'm from Finland, and every year since 1995 we have paid more to EU than received. This is where it gets more complicated, since for example our economy is driven by export, and most of our export goes to EU. But since we had to start taking care of South EU:s debts, this discussion has been up in Finland all the time. Especially when Greece is spending it on buying military equipment from France and Germany.

@MrVultcher Lent money to the Greeks or to some bank with a HQ in Greece? There's a big difference. The people of a country are not some collective insurance policy for reckless speculators. The Germans did not lend the cash to Ireland at the height of the boom, the bondholders poured it into private banks, not the state coffers. They took a risk, and they don't want to face the consequences, and have been co-ercing Ireland into underwriting their losses.

Mr Browne is absolutely right. Klaus Masuch did not respond to the question at all. He simply evaded it with a general statement that was totally not applicable to the question.
