This song just came on, hearing it for the first time since my dad passed in Dec 2021. It instantly reminded me of him, he really loved this tune. He was a master artist, a painter, and a huge fan of Van Gogh. Will definitely be learning this one. To all of us who are missing our dads when this tune plays, peace and happiness find you. And to our dads, rest in peace and see you again soon :)

This is a song that I came to love. “They did not listen they did not know how”. It is a very sad song and it reminds me of what my late mom went through because of mental illness. Now that we’re more enlightened on mental illness it is fitting to say “Perhaps they’ll listen now.” Not to her but those who are unfortunately afflicted by this illness. This is a song which makes me very emotional but I remember the bright side. Mom was a great soul harassed by an unfortunate illness.

One of my favorite song of Don McLean a beautiful tribute of Vincent Van Gogh
@tomatenherbert58743 жыл бұрын
I love this song as much as I love Van Gogh and his art. Every time I listen to this piece it kinda makes me sad. Vincent was tormented by mental issues which couldn't really be solved by the time he has lived. But this man showed us that even pure sadness can be put in the own passion to create unique beatuy. I really appreciate his art and listening to this song makes me feel as I would understand Van Gogh better, even though I'll be always deeply hit by the fact that he probably killed himself and nowadays everyone has heard of him, his biggest dream has come true and he couldn't even experience this dream of becoming famous as an artist. Thanks Dave for this great tutorial. Will right away start practising.

I’ve been learning with your tutorials for a couple of years now and it’s helped me improve so much! I started playing finger style when the last of us came out and I wanted to learn the song “Future Days” like it was performed in the game. Saw your tutorials and it helped me start in my fingerpicking journey. I’ve improved a lot and can play songs like Love of my life and Vincent now. Thanks for all the help and amazing videos!!

How happy I am that I found your site Dave. You have such a gift for teaching and everything you explain is so clear. This 75 yr old gal has just returned to her acoustic guitar after many years of leaving it in its case. you have inspired me to keep on trying to play and learn some finger style patterns despite arthritis in my left thumb which does hamper fretting at times. I do have one question, what is your setting for your metronome ? I found it very helpful to have that ticking away in the background to help with timing. Keep up the great teaching and the beautiful songs that you choose to share with us. Love Carole.

[Verse 1] Starry, starry night Paint your palette blue and grey Look out on a summer's day With eyes that know the darkness in my soul Shadows on the hills Sketch the trees and the daffodils Catch the breeze and the winter chills In colors on the snowy linen land [Chorus] Now I understand What you tried to say to me And how you suffered for your sanity And how you tried to set them free They would not listen, they did not know how Perhaps they'll listen now [Verse 2] Starry, starry night Flaming flowers that brightly blaze Swirling clouds in violet haze Reflect in Vincent's eyes of china blue Colors changing hue Morning fields of amber grain Weathered faces lined in pain Are soothed beneath the artist's loving hand [Chorus] Now I understand What you tried to say to me And how you suffered for your sanity And how you tried to set them free They would not listen, they did not know how Perhaps they'll listen now [Bridge] For they could not love you But still your love was true And when no hope was left in sight On that starry, starry night You took your life, as lovers often do But I could have told you, Vincent This world was never meant for one As beautiful as you [Verse 3] Starry, starry night Portraits hung in empty halls Frameless heads on nameless walls With eyes that watch the world and can't forget Like the strangers that you've met The ragged men in ragged clothes The silver thorn; a bloody rose Lie crushed and broken on the virgin snow [Outro] Now I think I know What you tried to say to me And how you suffered for your sanity And how you tried to set them free They would not listen, they're not listening still Perhaps they never will
