Bayern are taking a big gamble with Kompany. But I think there are a few things that might go in his favour. First, his football fits with Bayern very well and he sticks to it. Secondly the Pep factor; he has played under him and most of his teammates including Pep have praised his leadership skills. Thirdly, the players. Neuer and Muller are probably playing their final season this year hence they might give it all to win trophies for Bayern. Everyone knows Kane is forever hungry to win something. The rest of the lot? The next UCL final is in Munich, I don't think they need any more motivation. And if he does fail, they can always try again to sign Xabi next season :)

Maybe it's just me, but there's a whiff of Marco Silva about him (the Watford version). A media darling whose results on the pitch don't quite match all the hype. He overspent on a keeper who was an absolute disaster. And instead of admitting he got it wrong, he persisted with that keeper until it was too late. Who spends €18m on a keeper whose only experience was league 1. In fact I think he is the biggest reason Burnley didn't have a chance to survive. I wish Jules was on the show because he never hesitates to push back on some of nonsense Gab spouts now and again. Burnley gave Kompany so much power and money but now he get's to run away and leave it to someone else to fix the mess.

As a Burnley fan, it would be sad to see him leave after only two years, but I cannot begrudge him for leaving if Bayern come knocking. Although, from Bayern’s perspective there are surely way better options available. Kompany took six months to adapt to Premier League football, by which point Burnley were all but relegated. It's really not fair to say "Kompany got Burnley relegated." according to the clubs goals, they were promoted ahead of their own schedule. And instead of spending money like crazy or changing the manager, they decided to stick to their guns and be smart even if it meant relegation. So it's not exactly fair to say he got them relegated, when the club hierarchy itself thought they had a championship squad and not a premier league squad. This is also the reason Kompany didn't try to do crazy things with his game plan. He wasn't really trying to keep them in the Premier league no matter what. Passion merchant? You clearly never saw Burnley play in Championship. He was able to change a team built by Sean Dyce to play long ball defensive football into Pep style team 12 months, imagine if given good players what he could do.
