*A Soldier can only officially earn one Metal of Honor.* There were two Men that actually received two Metal of Honor before bureaucrats in DC changed the rule to one per deserving Soldier. Thanks Fat Electrician. He did a video that mentioned this.

He's actually incorrect about that. The change was you can only be awarded 1 for any specific action. There are a total of 19 service members that have received 2 MOH. It's just that Smedley Butler and Dan Daly are the only 2 marines to have done that. He got a few small things wrong in that video like Dan Dalys age. He was 26 when he joined the marines. I still love his videos not throwing any hate his way at all.

A soldier can only earn 1 MOH. Marines have earned 2.

I was never in the military but a good friend of mine said that “there is no enemy that will try harder to end you more than your own squad”. Hearing Vargas’ story I think I’m starting to understand what he meant.

10th mountain line medic training fucked me up worse then afghanistan and Iraq combined from EFP'S and IED's,20+ concussions oconus getting blown up almost daily in 07-09 and still got more brain damage from training events

It's only hazing if you're the only boot who has to deal with the bullshit. If every boot gets the same treatment, it's a "team-building exercise." I don't know who has the worse "standing up a unit" story though. When I got done with ITB, the Marines sent me to what was then called the FMTU. There was a brigade-level command structure somewhere on Lejeune that I never saw, then there was a Cpl running me and two other boots. After a couple of months of getting random classes and office work, they restructured the thing. Downsized the command to battalion-level and brought in a bunch more enlisted guys from boot camp and pulled out of line battalions. This unit was going to be specifically trained to teach other militaries how US Marines fight. I got pulled into this thing because I had four years of French class in high school, got volun-told to work for the S-1 shop because I know what a computer looks like, then spent the next five months or so getting advanced classroom instruction on everything from SERE to standard-issue rifles of the world in between making spreadsheets like the protagonist of a bad spin-off sequel to Office Space. I was about one year into a four-year contract when the brass restructured that unit AGAIN. They decided that it was going to be a special forces unit, so all of us that got pulled into it out of our job schools got kicked out to whatever fleet units needed bodies because they now needed guys with combat experience. So I finally got into the infantry like I asked for in the first place after the Corps spent upwards of $25k on me for pay and a bunch of knowledge that was now all but useless unless I ended up getting kidnapped off of the base by a gang of feral hillbillies. Oh yeah, and the infantry battalion I got sent to was 1/9, The Walking Dead. And it was at company-strength because it was just standing up when I got there. My first deployment was weird because of that.

My friend who was a Ranger killed himself not too long ago because of how bad it was getting. He was one of the strongest badass MF’s I knew. I had friends of his tell me it’s no open secret that the Ranger program has very real noticeable problems that are no where near service/combat related issues. But if there’s any lesson from this, call your friends, you never know what they might be going through.

Ahh fond memories ... I was in 3-75 and it is the same shit. We had three baby Rangers show up from RIP on the 6th of June. They had to re-enact the Normandy landings in their landing craft (three of them stuffed in an old steel trash) with the salt spray ... (the fire hose from the barracks). All my wayward youth ... how I miss it so.

They offered to tear up my contract and give me a ranger contract when I finished as SOC during basic at Benning. I immediately turned down the offer. I had no desire to go to any "Crush your nuts" schools..

In 74 when I took the ASAVB test I managed a 123, still ended up as a Heavy Equipment Operator (1345). When I went to reenlist, I had a 30% bilateral hearing loss. I was informed that I couldn't be an Operator anymore, so I chose to become an Electrician, I retired in 20.
