As others have noted before me, he loves being the center of attention. When someone plays him off or is able to take the spotlight away, atleast without his permission, it rankles his ego. It hits even worse when it’s someone like Lucifer, who easily can punch above Alastor’s class. Thus Alastor goes after what he can to get back, in Lucifer’s case that being poking at the fact Alastor has/had a better relationship with Charlie then Lucifer did

Lucifer is confirmed the highest on the hell totem pole, and thus being the strongest we are aware of, especially when you consider his fight with Adam, one which Alastor lost btw, where Lucifer was simply dancing around Adam, making jokes between shapeshifting, only getting serious when Charlie was in danger. 2. I would like to draw attention to the fact Alastor only cursed 3 times in season one, that being towards Adam twice at the start and end of their fight, and at Lucifer after the later made fun of the hazben hotel name. Now Alastor is smart, he isn’t gonna try to go one on one against Lucifer so openly in such a situation, thus he would go for other weak points, say Lucifer’s relationship with Charlie? Don’t get me wrong, Alastor is cool, and deceptively strong, even in his lessened state. But quite frankly Lucifer is on a literal entirely different level of power.

His song at 19:57 and his behavior during it leads me to believe that he _may_ lose his mind at some point in the series and go full villain mode on pretty much anyone that dares even look at him wrong. All the disrespect he's been getting lately combined with Husker reminding him that he _is not_ the one in control has got to be eating away at his composure. And that little line to Charlie feels like it's eluding to a bigger reveal at some point. "Just because you see a smile, don't think you know what's going on underneath." this is such an intelligent theory/comment, though i want him to stay on the goofy evil side as much as the next person, i would be really impressed and fascinated and even excited to see what they do if they end up going down that route with his character. i think itd definitely give me a lot of respect for the writers because exploring that desperate, ‘insane’ mindset in a character is both difficult to pull off both tastefully and well, and an absolutely darkly gripping treat when done correctly. this comment is a really beautiful evaluation of his character thus far, and a well-written, gripping read!

Makes sense, it's crazy how despite constantly smiling, you're never lost when it comes to how Alastor feels. This smile portrays a desperate man on the verge of a complete breakdown, different from his usual playful, cunning and mischievous smile or his enraged "don't fuck with me" smile, as Alastor is typically confident in things going to plan, showing no fear or weakness, and so his one moment of emotional vulnerability is surprisingly scary because the guy's clearly a control freak. There's also the possibility that he's realizing he feels genuine empathy, something he views as weakness, and might not even comprehend what he's feeling, so as a result he's trying to double down on his evil, which could present an interesting inner conflict if he plans on trying to go against Charlie if she is the deal maker here.

My favorite thing about Alastor is how he plays with perceptions of power. Through much of Hell's view, power is based on what you can smash up. Alastor certainly has that, so many view him as powerful. Charlie doesn't have that, so she isn't viewed as powerful herself. However, the perceptive in Hell know that Alastor's pure strength isn't what makes him powerful, but rather his cunning and deal-making. His most fascinating trait is that he DOES have the thing that the rank and file mistake for power, but also other traits that are truly powerful. Similarly, he recognizes in Charlie that her charisma and leadership give her vastly powerful reach, a trait that few in Hell truly perceive. She isn't considered powerful in the traditional sense, but Alastor sees true power in the reach she can command. It's the dichotomy between Alastor's nominal power and the actual understanding of where true power lies that makes him such a compelling character.

Technically lore-wise, in absolute terms Charlie is several magnitude stronger than Alastor purely by the fact that she's the daughter of Lucifer. Alastor that's an Overlord is hierarchical wise several tiers below Charlie (There's the other Seven Dealy Sins and the Nobilities i.e. the Ars Goetia). But in his tier, he might actually be the strongest Overlord bordering or even reaching Nobility level due to the fact that Alastor canonically rose to Overlord from Sinner due to strength instead of amount of soul contracts like the other Overlords.

Did anyone else notice alastor waited to make a deal with charlie when she was easiest emotionally manipulated, she was upset with vaggie and was experiencing too many emotions to process, so when alastor said he didnt want her soul there was nothing off about it to her because she was thinking about vaggie lying to her, experiencing shock, depression,anger,ect. I find it interesting that both times he made deals with them,he used the other to manipulate them into making a deal with him. Charlie didn't realize what he was doing but vaggie obviously did because he literally said " - or charlie can come back to nothing" Doesn't really get more obvious than that, but charlie doesn't know vaggie made a deal with alastor, wich could have been the same as Charlie's deal or a one time thing, but if it was a one time deal, than i can see vaggie being manipulated into making another deal with alastor getting tricked into selling her soul to alastor ( who would use charlie to manipulate her ) and then vaggie later blaming Charlie, leading to another bump in their relationship, wich might bring lute into the picture trying to get her to make a similar deal like adam tried to when he talked to her in the hotel room in heaven .
