Every time I’ve heard the word “bespoke” it was in a program/video produced in the UK. I think the word is used more frequently there. I’ve often heard it used to describe a custom piece of furniture.

I was baffled that they all found bespoke to be such a challenging and arcane word! In IT, bespoke has been used for a long time to refer to something custom-built. I am not American, so perhaps it is more common in UK and Commonwealth countries. It seems an everyday English word to me. It amuses me that in a paper title containing the phrase “co-option of retrotransposons to activate hematopoietic stem cells and erythropoiesis” it was the simple word bespoke that the panel found remarkable.

@@bhmcl4131 I’ve never heard the word bespoke spoken by an American, and I’ve lived here my whole life… 66 years. Another word we don’t use is “fortnight”. I don’t think most Americans know its meaning.

I hate to break it to you guys but the beginning of winter was over a month ago, it's 2025 now and we're almost done with January, winter did indeed start December 21st.
