Very difficult to get rid of them Hugh, using sharp gravel around your container plants helps to deter the fly from laying her eggs. ♻️Happy gardening, Terry King.

Hey Terry, thanks for stopping by, yes spot on, I dress all the tops of my pots with grit. These came in on some veg plants. All sorted now though. All the best there, Hugh 😊👍🏼🌿

With your lovely accent, you can describe the little fe€kers and even play with them, without me turning away from the screen! That takes talent because for some reason, I find grubs to be the most disgusting thing in the garden, they are so destructive, but also really creepy looking (in my humble opinion)! I hope you gave them a good send off! Have a great day, Hugh! 💚

This(just one) ate up the roots of my succulent plant and moved into the stem. My plant died but being a succulent I got a few leaves going again.Thanks for this video Horti. ...and now I've turned on your notification.

Evil little sods.......have heard that they are difficult to eradicate once they are in the garden. ? Best of luck to you.

Yes, their a real nuisance. These were bought in plants, and I think they came in with them. As I use very little peat in my compost, I don’t find them to be an issue, particularly as I top off many of my container grown plants with grit, which inhibits them laying eggs: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qnqtfXaqYtapoQ Have a good one there Artlover, Hugh 🌿👍🏼🙂

Thanks for sharing this video Hugh. Today a heuchera I had planted in a pot came away in my hand...emptied out the pot and there they were, vine weevil grubs. Then I checked another heuchera which was planted in the ground. It too came away in my hand 🙁 It’s an older plant and the stems are thicker. If I place the pieces in water would they root again? Hugh what should I do now? I dug around where it was planted and found lots of grubs. Took out about a dozen, but would they be everywhere in the flower bed-should I dig around all the plants to see if they’re there? 😨 Is there a home remedy to kill any grubs that might still be in the soil? Or what would you recommend?
@HortiHugo3 жыл бұрын
Oh no Audrey! Bin the compost from the pot, all of it. Take the area of the root all where the Heuchera was from the soil, and again dispose of it. Heuchera are notorious for vine weevil. They love embedding themselves in the fleshy roots and staying there feeding over winter...

Thanks Hugh. I’ve another Heuchera in a window box so I’m hoping that a vine weevil hasn’t laid eggs there too. Maybe I should empty it out and check for grubs. If only I’d known, when I bought them, about placing sharp grit around the base of the plants to prevent laying eggs. Ah well-lessons learned. Is there any plant you’d recommend for a shaded area that’s as tough as old boots and could survive without too much care?

@@audreyburrowes4058 Yep, definitely check the window box. Put that as a question up on Twitter and I'll retweet it for you. Interested to hear what other people think too 👍🏻👍🏻

I hate them! I have a lot of pots in my garden and they destroy the plants quickly... They don't do so much hard in the soil just my pots! It's so annoying
@HortiHugo4 жыл бұрын
Yes, used to have the same until I eliminated using peat in my composts, and now also top dress with grit. Hopefully this link to video will help 👍🏼👍🏼: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qnqtfXaqYtapoZI
