After using it, I can totally say that Sony has really fine tuned their sound system. The bass is no more overpowering. I was stunned to listen the crystal clear beats. Dialogues are super clear, plus you have options of voice mode, Night mode which brings the clarity of dialogues in single click. Also bass can be lowered with dedicated subwoofer volume control. Even surround speakers distance can be adjusted by remote control from the point of listening. There is also individual volume control for surround speakers. HDMI ARC/CEC works flawlessly with my VU smart tv. At first I thought output was low, as at same volume levels TV audio was quite loud compared to sound system but once volume was raised above 20, the powerful sound kicked in. I guess this is because HDMI controlled sound output. In past I have had experience of sony music systems, but the fine tuning of this model (S40r) is really exceptional. You can enjoy each individual beat from this system as if you are listening with high end headphones. I really appreciate that your review was totally on point and it is always difficult to describe sound quality to viewers from review video but you have done a good job. Highly recommended.

I purchased the Sony S40R after seeing this review. I found out the hard way that the wattage of a speaker has nothing to do with how loud the speakers can get. This system is really good quality and Vineet's description about it is bang on! You're one of my favourite tech youtubers now. However, Just a warning to everyone considering this purchase for a large room, it doesn't get loud enough. Even at 100% volume, it is just alright. The quality is great, but my X74K Sony TV's stock 20W speakers are way louder than this 600W Sound System. My living room is about 25x50ft and this is I'm going to have to find some different use for these speakers because they absolutely will not do. I wish companies had a standardized decibel rating or something that they provided with speakers. Meh.

I never have seen such review who explained the technicalities of sound. Amazing!! Sir, I have questions which I’m hoping you will answer them. 1. I am looking for a 5.1 Dolby atmos home theatre with best surround sound feel for my 55” UHD LG tv in 20 to 35k range. Can you suggest one or two from any model? 2. You said in this model there is no 4K pass through. So does that mean that the video I’m watching on Netflix or any ott which is 4K and mastered with 5.1 surround sound, won’t deliver the 5.1 sound quality on this model of home theatre? With all due respect, your reviews are amazing but when you record the audio please take care of the gain setting on your mic or in post don't boost your audio too much as i hear it on my studio speakers and its very harsh and distorted (technical terms its clips especially the voice ) , just letting you know I've watched like 30 videos of yours already and same issue

Very good review sir... Since my childhood I am quite fond about SONY sound system.. even I got my first audio system belong to SONY. I have a query to you... I have SONY DZ150 K 5.1 sound system which I bought in 2007 - 08.. it has only single disc drive with no USB or Blutooth (that time these were not available for sure) .. now I want to conver this system with either bluetooth or AUX cable to run it with my Mobile.. is it possible..? @Vineet Malhotra I have been using logitech z906 with my pc for the past 9.5 years and to be honest they are really great. I am using it with Creative Sound Blaster X-fi Titanium Sound card. As you can see my z906 is quite old now and planning to buy a new one. Would have definitely bought another logitech speakers but till now they have not launched any successor for z906 and in the excitement of upgrade I am loosing patience. So was looking for this Sony S40R sound bar as z906 upgrade. Was looking for JBL Bar 5.1also but they are out of my budget currently. I want a home theater with hard hitting and feeling bass not with too much boomy bass. So, will this S40R be a great upgrade over my z906? OR you got any other suggestions to it. I prefer to listen at 90-100% volume with 100% Bass level for a loud sound. PLEASE NOTE I WILL BE USING THIS WITH MY PC ONLY.

After watching KZbin reviews I purchased a Sony s40r. When I connect the soundbar with tv via HDMI arc or tv Bluetooth, the sound is very low compared to mobile Bluetooth play, USB direct play with soundbar. It's happened with any percentage volume. I tried PCM on/off, DRC on/off but there is no fix. After that I connected this soundbar with Sony, lg, Samsung tv, there is the same issue. Then I called Sony for service, after that Sony service employee came to my home and said that this soundbar is not capable of producing tv sound louder as compared to mobile Bluetooth play or USB direct play with soundbar. Sony's services are very bad and not acceptable.Don't buy sony s20r or s40r. After all of these things happened I purchased JBL 2.1 deep bass mk2. Now I'm a big fan of JBL's music instruments, sound separation, vocals, bass, sound clarity and loudness.

Hi, I usually keep the volume just enough to be audible to the ears. Keeping this in mind, will I be able to experience the surround effects properly with normal volume? Or do I have to blast the volume to >75% to experience it? My question is not limited to just this soundbar but any soundbar in this range. If I have to shell a little extra for a better surround experience on a limited volume what would be your suggestion? Also please compare this with Samsung A670 or 67exl.

Exceptional review! But beyond that the way you use the camera has improved drastically making it much more interesting to watch. Keep it up 👍🏼 And please do let me know if the S40R is better than Samsung HW-A76E/XL because I seriously don't think S40 can match the voice clarity on this one. Surround experience may be neck and neck but do let me know which one gives a better overall experience.

Which one will you prefer to go with this one which has a 5.1 channel or samsung Q600 A which is 3.2.1 but has Dolby atmos. If possible please compare both.

I bought SONY HT-S40R last year and it is still in warranty. I am facing same issue even after providing the temporary resolution many times , like changing the system or side speakers. I have already provided the videos to the technician and field engineer where there is an abrupt sound coming from the rear woofers. I stronly believe there is a design issue with this product HT-S40R. I have tested it with different audio and videos. Is there any specific audio codec it supports?

Hello sir, I am one of the subscribers of your KZbin channel. My cousin recommended your channel for review, and I found it very helpful. Since that day, I have been following you. Even my dad has loved your channel. If you recommend any product, my dad definitely go with the product. Till now, we have bought a Panasonic 7 in 1 convertible AC, Elica chimney, and gas stove after your review. We are in a dilemma about which soundbar to choose, either 2.1 or 5.1. Our TV is 14 feet away from the wall, but we sit 7 feet away from the TV. If we buy a 5.1-channel soundbar, we will need to install the rear satellites on the rear wall. My question is, will we experience an immersive sound experience with this setup? Or should we go for 2.1? I'll go with Sony HT - S40R if 5.1 or JBL SB190 if 2.1.
