The vinegar reacts with the baking soda causing the cake to rise better and if you mix milk and vinegar it becomes like buttermilk, all this makes a nice light cake.👍👍👍

RetroHax interesting flavour. I think of fish and chips for vinegar.

Vinegar Cake? Never heard of that. Is it like a fruity box of salty fries you get from those trucks at the Carnival? Good video Martin and Sharon.

Great video Martin, you would have been lucky to get even mixed fruit in the 1940's lol. Could have been worse Martin you could have had a plate of tripe on the side lol Cheers, Jeff.

Yer I keep seeing people add vinegar to a cake and I’ve no idea why I can’t seem to find a video explaining why either Oo

It certainly looked good. Good old fashion cake. Unlike the egg pie I'd happily eat the cake.

Would you say it was a moist cake? I love the simplicity of it. Was thinking a little cinnamon and some dried cherries might help it along.
@RetroHax
@RetroHax 7 жыл бұрын
Not really moist but it was an original 1940's recipe. Yes, adding fruit would improve it no end. Cheers Martin

RetroHax We have a version of that here from the Depression called Wacky Cake. Same idea only, you put all the ingredients in a pan..mix it with a fork..and it's chocolate. Very moist. A white version of that would be fun to flavor up.

I think it’s a cockney thing could be completely wrong but my dads cockney very similar accent and talks the same used to call my mum nicknames like that but it shouldn’t be creepy he’s showing affection to his wife in nicknames a lot of young people do it maybe not as much but they’re happy and still in love which a lot of people get divorced by their age so they must be doing something right
