I love using it as a source of inspiration I'm making a game set in a early 2000s what they thought was futuristic type office and you can just type in stuff like "simple 3d render of an abstract shape with relaxing and calming curves and emissive textures, 4k desktop background" and it just immediately sparks inspiration and I look at it and go "oh yeah the light being on this part of the model shining down makes a really satisfying crisp effect on the clean surface" it's just so useful

It definitely became more niche and took some peoples jobs. Before cameras the only way visually display something from reality was to draw it, all of the art you saw in books was drawn, people used to hire wedding painters and thats not really a thing anymore. That was also only for realism, these AI's will eventually be able to do everything.

I think a lot of people don’t really understand why these AI even exist in the first place. Most of the researchers and engineers who are developing, training and analysing these AI aren’t necessarily doing it to create art or replace artists. It’s simply a means to an end. Having a AI that an create images from text prompts is interesting but in the grand scheme of things is pretty inconsequential. The main goal here is to develop AI algorithm and techniques that can translate into other fields such as; Synthesising medicine; Assisting farmers with increased crop yield whilst minimising environmental damage; etc, etc.

About the discussion of AI art, there's a huge difference between being SKILLED and being CREATIVE. The AI has the SKILL to recreate things it has analyzed and use that for reference, that's the part where some "artists" are afraid of, some people just have the skill to re-create and that's easily replaceable. What you can't replace is creating things from experience, AI can't be CREATIVE from almost no point of reference, that can't be ever replicated until we can make an actual virtual human. The people who do in between, who does someone else style, who live from commissions alone, derivative pieces, almost automation level creation, that's what AI will replace. For actual creatives ai will be merely another tool to actually make things from within, actual art.

Creatives dedicate their lives to art not because of the result of a pretty picture but because they find fulfillment in creation. I'm not sure this can be considered a tool when it does 90% of the creation for you, turning the creative process into prompt entry seems more reductive to me. It turns what should be a beautiful experience and makes it as boring and soulless as any other desk job. This is awful for creatives, but for consumers who want nothing more than the dopamine squirt they get from seeing a pretty picture I'm sure this is utopia.
