Intentional or otherwise, the limited tools and colours and how you have to collect them from the area reflects pretty well on what art school offers, I think. It's a great source of knowledge and inspiration and motivation, but you only get taught so much, everyone in the class learns the same things, and you're always going to be pushed towards certain standards. Even in places that follow more of a "be yourself" mentality, you have to get marked on something. Teachers also tend to have specific artists and styles that most inspire them, which are more frequently used as examples for the class to follow. Likewise, you can glean a lot of inspiration from your surroundings, and when you're in school you tend to spend a lot of time in the same environment, and it can grow stale.
@MrMadalien5 жыл бұрын
There's only one type of art education that is genuinely worth the money and that is a mentorship with a professional artist that you admire. Otherwise, don't pay for art education. Art schools fail on 2 fronts. You are being evaluated by an arbitrary standard, so not only are the teachers unable to help people with unique styles, they also are not able to teach traditional standards (i.e realistic art) because almost all of them do not hold that standard (because the education system is dominated by post-modernism that casts aside greek/roman values of humanism and realism). So the end result is that most artists leave art school unprepared for any professional path, and simultaneously unprepared for the world of fine art (because your unique intuitions have been replaced by the intuitions of a failed art teacher). Coming from an artist that skipped higher education and is working as a freelancer in the games/animation industry at 21. I know this isn't really the place to argue about this but I think it's really important that kids thinking about going in to art know this stuff.
@waapfu5 жыл бұрын
@@MrMadalien I mostly agree with you. As someone who really enjoys being in a school environment, I really wanted to be in the art course I went into. I think there are benefits to going into art courses if that's a kind of environment you do well in. School can smother creativity for a lot of people and I think it's kind of down to the individual as to how hard they are going to be impacted by that kind of thing. It's definitely something to be aware of when making that decision. I agree on the value for money thing, but mainly because of how much money tertiary education costs. It's obscene, and most of the skills taught can be learnt online for free, if you know what you're looking for.
@elk3407 Жыл бұрын
Where the hell are y'all going to art school? Community College fine arts? If you don't want to do conceptual work, don't go into fine arts. Take a degree in the design division that is SPECIFICALLY made for preparing you for industry work. It covers everything from character design to the business end of things. Or just do an animation degree
@waapfu Жыл бұрын
lol i actually went to a local college art course that focused on industry work prep (while really wanting to be in a fine arts course but not having the means to do that) but dropped out after like two months. was still in a really weird relationship w art and art class ideologically from dedicating several years to absolutely torturing myself for an abusive high school art teacher when i commented on this video and that was greatly impacting my view of reality at the time. i can kinda see the school essay sorta lens i was looking at shit through at the time + that idealistic like "art is about Feelings and Expression and there's no bad art" sentiment that's like, it's not wrong it's just that there's different purposes for art with different standards and expectations attached to them, and especially if you want to make money off art you're gonna have to start following some rules.

Korbis Barkly Premium is good, but what sucks is when the content creator places their own ads and sponsors some shitty vpn or something like that. Thank GOD Vinny doesn't do that cause I find it a little tasteless. I've never been in that position, so I don't know 100%, but I feel like I'd turn down having to sponsor a product every time for many reasons, my viewers' sanity and viewing pleasure being the main one.
@Falkuzrules5 жыл бұрын
Some people do sponsors very well, like mentioning it at the beginning for a second and then talking about it in detail at the end, or putting a timestamp to skip it... so that just makes it even sadder that Angry Video Game Nerd episodes start with like a full minute of pointless sponsor talk now.
