Man I owned Earthworm Jim 3D as a kid and it was the perfect example of a game that was too awful to enjoy, but that I was too young to really consciously know was bad. I was always just vaguely like "this is shitty and I wanna play Mario/BK instead but idk why" and I never beat the first boss.

Ah-ha! I knew i'd find you on one of vinny's videos. I like your videos a lot as well. I've never played the earthworm Jim game before. One game I recommend people play is Silicon Valley Space Station. It's a platformer that allows you to change into different characters, very similar to Mario oddessy. It's got a lot of charm, but it's also very flawed, and has an infamous glitch which makes it impossible to beat the game.

Funnily enough Earthworm Jim 3D was mostly bad because the Bosses were horribly programmed and impossible to beat, I was able to enjoy it, but only by using a gameshark to skip boss fights to see all the other stages. If they had retooled the bosses it would have been muchbetter.

But Batman Beyond is criminally underrepresented, especially in a way that actually follows the show's setting. The suit has been used in the 2030's era of New 52 for basically everyone _except_ Terry, who exists but isn't involved with the Bat family in that continuity.

Hey vinny, i don't know that you are aware of this but the original version of earthworm jim had a code that mocks their rival donkey kong country. It replaces jim's head with donkey kong's head with an arrow because the creators felt that donkey kong took their fame so they instead insulted them. Also i believe in donkey kong country 2 or 3 that mocks earthworm jim on one of the score systems where jim is in a trash can and has zero place.

Was vinny accidentally playing PAL games on NTSC emultors (or vice versa)? In certain regions, TVs ran at 50FPS vs the US standard 60, so playing roms on the wrong emu causes speed-up and slowdown.

Watch the video. He had several of chat confirm it runs that way - plus he looked it up on KZbin. Also that N64 Archive channel is using emulators too. The dude is from the Netherlands (so the channel says) and quite a few games on that channel are $65+ to $90 games, or not even available as PAL - and for whatever reason they are all posted in 1080p HD which is what a monitor runs on.

@@BareBandSubscription I never got a notification for your comment until now. Hmm. That'd be cool. But, the game is British and has some British humor. I'm not sure I could replicate that. I could do a new game of the series, and make it with the same characters in a new location. Not sure. For everything else, I'd have to tear the game down, and find what makes it work and what makes it stand out. I'd do it level by level. Find what the premise is of each level, the play style, what ideas could be added or changed, the humor of the briefing and dialogue, mechanics, and atmosphere. I love this game enough where I'd love to tear it apart, draft out my ideas, sketch out new ones, and get a team to develop it with me. Then I'd release it at a low price on most game platforms. Unfortunately, the game is instantly going to be compared with Mario Odyssey, even though the mechanics in that game pretty much look to be inspired by THIS game. Think about it. You are a microchip, you take over a robotic animal, each has their own abilities. Mario Odyssey is pretty similar. Much more fleshed out, but I think it's very.....interesting. When Odyssey came out, I instantly thought of Silicon Valley Space Station.

You know that level where you start as a hyena in the rain forest, and you have to....I believe shut a parrot up? So you switch to a hippo to get the underwater switches, then to a bear to roll boulders, then to a tank. There's a giant pit with no visible path. Keyword: visible. I remember repeatedly playing that level as a kid and I didn't understand what I was doing wrong. As an adult I finally got it. This game is massively flawed, but I love it. Its got a strange charm and it's unique. It just can't be replicated and I haven't seen it replicated. Its an odd, quirky game full of personality and charm. Each level had a certain feel to it. They didn't feel like reskins of other levels. The atmosphere of each level is great. There's a snow level where you start as a husky, you can take over a rabbit, and your goal is to deal with some pesky penguins, I believe. You can change the lighting. When you change the lighting, it feels cozy, like it's cold and snowing outside, but you're sipping hot cocoa. There's also a snow level with decapitated heads. :3 The fact that the music for the game comes out of the speakers, and you can destroy the speakers to turn of the music....I love it! Its very clever! The humor, I'm not good with British humor. So....I can't replicate that. The characters don't come off as too British, but there's a character named Frank Mann, or something. It's basically the main character dressed in a dress, wig and makeup. .......I don't know if I can put that in the game anymore, but I recognize that's part of the humor. And if said aloud, sounds fairly British.

It's called Hybrid Heaven, and it's not too bad of a game. It's essentially an RPG where you upgrade your limbs to pull off more powerful combos and fighting moves.

Think of it like Final Fantasy's ATB battles, except your weapons are your limbs, and as you use them or they get hit, they level up and unlock more moves for you; you can also move around in-battle. I would watch a battle video to get a better idea. If I recall though, you can have your limbs get damaged to the point where you can't kick or punch or use other moves, etc. The game also gets pretty difficult later on.

I have Earthworm Jim 3D both in PC and N64 and there is why it's a very bad game, unfortunately: - The N64 had some awful programming that makes the WHOLE game have just the one song (like in the video) in the entire game - N64 version had a horrible bad camera. - The 5 bosses in the game uses some of the beloved villains in the series but totally ignored their individuality using them in the same exact minigame, a race. Very frustrating to meet every one of them stripped of its personality. - The stage progression forced you to collect 100% orbs in-stages like Banjo-Kazooie however, all the stages have some slow boring gimmicks like escort mission, finding the X number of items on the map, mazes, climbing segments, stealth and etc - Jim is very much weak, there are a lot of things in the game that can kill you almost instantly making you start the map again from zero, which gets very tiring, after all, all stages are very long. There a number of places that if you platform wrong is one-hit KO. - There are some segments that don't feel like an EWJ game, like in missions where you have to decapitate cows or when you are meeting Elvis for some reason, but the insanity still is there, which is good. What I think kills the series it's the stupidly incompetent port of the PC version to N64 where eliminated songs and ruined camera allied with the long (and sometimes boring) frustrating stages that made you backtrack constantly for marbles risking all the time losing a life over a very little mistake (which were very common).

It’s a guilty pleasure of mine as well. We used to rent Earthworm Jim 3D and Gex 64 (we already had Mario and Banjo), so I have a fondness for them. I honestly don’t think Earthworm Jim 3D is _that_ bad. When it came out, it was merely middle-of-the-road by many estimations.

- Long and boring collect-a-thon stages with a lot of one hit KOs that made you replay the whole level from zero without saving it, - N64 version had just one song the entire game, - all the 5 bosses are the same, - most of the stages hid the collectibles so well you had to backtrack the stage time after time - they waste some famous characters in the series making they appears just as motionless npcs (Psycrow, Monkey-for-a-head, Bob the Killer Goldfish) - awful camera (in N64 version only) because bad port.

Daikatana's n64 cut-scene's, jeez. I think Destrega on the PS1 got better cut-scenes, and their cut-scenes quality feels like a B-Movie version of trying to be Metal gear solid cut-scenes quality .

I thought that maybe the Batman Beyond game was developed in a PAL region, but I checked out the dev, and it turns out they're Japanese (Kemco). My thoughts were that maybe the game played slower in a Pal region and wasn't tested significantly for worldwide release, but nope... It's actually that fast as it was intended.

That's not its actual speed, Project 64 doesn't emulate the CPU timing correctly which causes it to run faster than real hardware. Then Vinny "confirmed" that it was the real speed by looking up a youtube video of the game which was also running on Project 64 with incorrect timing, because he's a very smart boy.
