1:41:35 In case you were wondering, “Genocide City Zone” was an early working title for the level. It was named by the designers, whose English skills weren't great, and they renamed it Cyber City as soon as somebody explained that the word “genocide” doesn't have the cool techno-punk connotations they thought it did. There are a couple of pieces of concept art for it, and contrary to popular belief, it wasn't going to be grimdark or anything. It was basically just Metropolis Zone but a little more mechanized. They ended up merging it into Metropolis because it was only meant to be a single Act, and cutting the Cyber City tileset probably saved them some much-needed space on the cartridge. I'm pretty sure they saved the graphics and used them in Sonic Spinball's techno-theme level, or something like that. That's about all there is to say about Genocide City. They just renamed it, reskinned it, and eventually made it Metropolis Zone Act 3. By all accounts, MZ3's layout is identical to what would have been Cyber City Zone. Now if you wanna learn some _really_ interesting shit, look up the other Zones that were cut from Sonic 2, particularly Hidden Palace (which was completed and added to the mobile version as an Easter egg, complete with a totally new Robotnik boss battle at the end) and “Dust Hill.” Apparently the first draft of Sonic 2's story involved time traveling, though probably not in the same way Sonic CD used it. The “Wood Zone” is a remnant of that idea, and it would have been set in the past. I think. It's weird.

@@animeloveer97 Yep, that's the secret entrance to Hidden Palace Zone in the mobile version! In the original game, that particular pit in Mystic Cave Zone was a little infamous in the Sonic community. It was a long drop onto a bed of spikes; it was too tall to jump out of, so it was _designed_ to be a death trap, but your rings would keep bouncing off the walls and back into you when you took damage from the spikes. You were stuck down there until the timer ran out. Truly Robotnik's most diabolical speed trap... The two guys who built the Retro Engine for the ports were established fans with a couple of top-tier ROM hacks under their belts, so they knew exactly what they were doing when they turned the Pit of Doom into the entrance to Hidden Palace. The lead dev, Christian Whitehead, planned to add a couple new -Zones- Rounds to the Sonic CD port (a level called Desert Dazzle, which would have paid homage to the scrapped Sonic 2 desert world, and a new boss-only finale called Final Fever with a more climactic boss battle in the vein of Sonic 2 and 3&K), but Sega wasn't comfortable letting him add new content to the games just yet. By the Sonic 2 port, they were cool with him remaking Hidden Palace Zone as an optional Easter egg, probably because it was legendary in the fan community. In turn, the positive reception to the new HPZ likely encouraged Sega to give the Retro Engine devs and PadogaWest Games more creative liberty in Sonic Mania.

The build isn't super interesting to someone that doesn't know Classic Sonic, I'm not sure how much he'd get out of it. The main things that have excited people is the drop dash existed before Mania and that there's proof the PC replacement music for the MJ tracks was actually in the original build.

The thing that keeps Vinny from streaming Tooie is the fact that he consistently views it as a flat "Platformer" and compares it to Kazooie too much. If you view Tooie as an Adventure(Platformer) it honestly becomes so much more easier to deal with. The fact that collectables like notes were more streamlined even solidifies the fact that Rare wanted it to be about the adventure, not the platforming.

I believe Piko Interactive owns the rights to Glover now and there has been talk of doing a Kickstarter to do an official N64 release of Glover 2 like they managed to do for the N64 version of 40 Winks.

Piko had rereleased Glover on Steam, and it's just the old PC version from long ago with no effort made to make the game compatible with modern machines. Because of that, it's even more broken than the Playstation version.

SoJ never really got along with SoA. SoJ actually hated the fact that the MegaDrive (Genesis) was more successful in America than in Japan so they sabotaged SoA by forcing a lot of stupid decisions at the end of the MD life and that ended up doing a lot of damage to the company in the long run.

my guess with the frog saying "goddammit" and probably also the chicken making fart noises in Glover 2 is that that the developers were just screwing around, happens all the time in early versions of stuff, and sometimes gets accidentally left in the finished product. For example, there's a manuscript of a book I'm working on and might try to get published someday, at which point I'll need to make sure I edit out the vore joke I threw in at one point just because it thought it was way too funny lol

now that ive seen that prototype of sonic x-treme, that game actually looked like it had potential tweak the controls and sensitivity, and make the level look a liiittle more pleasing, and im sure it would've done better

I think I remember hearing that the only reason they censored the curse words in the Live & Reloaded version of Conker is because they thought the bleeping was funnier. I’m not certain though.
