This mod has some phenomenal choices for atmospheric music. Royalty free or not, it's some great picks. I love Kevin Macleod's horror music.

That first part after the disaster where you roam the maintenance canals without a weapon is proper horror gameplay. Surprises instead of jumpscares and complete survival with a realistic atmosphere. Props to MrGnang. Edit: MASSIVE ups for making Mr Friendly as terrifying as the wiki said it was. Felt anxiety for Vinny to run from that thing as much as I feel about Gargs.

When you've finished this mod, I strongly recommend replaying the beginning segment to look for easter eggs. There are a lot of funny stuff to find if you explore of the paths, jump up and down on and off of stuff, follow workers and scientists, listen to what they are talking about and generally act like a crazy person. In fact, I would strongly suggest replaying this on your own, just to take the time to explore more of the world. There are several little easter eggs, funny moments and lore-bits all over the game, and which you are unfortunately missing while distracted by the chat. ... like the Gargantuan *kicking a container up at you* when you ride the elevator. Also, try listening to the VOX a bit more. It is hinting or talking about relevant things at least half the time. Likewise, sound effects are usually directional. So when you hear an explosion or noise, it is very often from somewhere nearby - hinting at something starting to happen or happening (like the Garg kicking stuff around or people trying to get your attention). Oh, and when facing Houndeyes: you can instantly stop their attacks by hitting or shooting them once, when they start to charge for a sonic blast. Very handy when wanting to conserve ammo.

I love binyot and the mod. But oh my god at certain points I wanted vinny to just slow down and take in the atmosphere and look around. Like the guard in the VOX cabin or the line of barneys behind the barricade while on the elevator. Instead of him deciding he’d much rather look at a random wall

One thing I will say about this mod that I don't see people talk about very often in games is that this mod has _incredible_ set dressing. I don't know what I'd say about the level design, speaking in the sense of how the level geometry and gameplay space is designed, but the design of the architecture and the arrangement of decoration and furniture in the worldspace is amazing. It makes Black Mesa feel like a real place. It's the most believable, natural feeling I think I've ever seen the Half Life 1 aesthetic look.

People asking vin about his money is always wild to me. "how do you, a rather consistently popular streamer who always has lots of viewers, make money without forcing ads or subs?" I mean like, could be donations, subs that aren't pushed, people buying merch- dozens of other things? the dude has a variety of sources for income and he's big enough that he can manage it without bombarding his viewers with notifications and stuff. No shame to the streamers who do speak on subs and the like but vinny just has a more relaxed attitude about it and it seems to work for him.

And this is why i watch Vinny, Joel, and sometimes Rev. The vinesauce community is very unique and different from the more popular streamers. The screen isnt full of statistics and usernames, and the stream just has an overall chill atmosphere about it (besides corruption of course, i love corruption streams) and that's why i grew to love his streams, and just him as a person, just fantastic. Edit: I forgot to add that the community is awesome too. You have the inevitable couple of impressionable 10 yr olds (I was actually 9 when i found Vinny's streams, and i am now 15) but the community can behave itself for the most part and everyone is really nice and helpful!

God, this mod is awesome!!! But I still think that it's held back by the GoldSource Engine. Don't get me wrong parts of this mod look like they're made with the Source Engine! But just imagine how good this mod could look if the creator decided to make this a Half Life 2 mod. I hope someday someone is going to remake this mod in Black Mesa Source, like the people who are remaking Azure Sheep in Black Mesa

HDTF was released in 2018 for $10 on steam, made by an entire dev team on the more advanced source engine. HL ECHOES was released the same year in 2018, as a free mod on moddb. Its made by ONE GUY, on a game engine over 20 YEARS OLD, ECHOES IS STILL BETTER THEN HUNT DOWN THE SHITMAN
