Everyone always forgets about the best/worst part of the Home Improvement game: the instruction manual was nothing more than a single page that said "REAL MEN DON'T NEED INSTRUCTIONS" in huge letters. Sure it's in theme with the show, but still a huge dick move for a game that's clumy and confusing by design.

I will say, the Home Improvement game is a very faithful adaptation of the show *in spirit* , like plot-wise there's basically no relationship, but I feel like a game where you throw tools at dinosaurs is exactly the sort of game idea Tim Allen would come up with during a coke binge (also, how else are you gonna turn a show that basically consists of Tim Allen reveling in cringetastic gender stereotypes and making weird sea lion noises, while the editors spend 90% of their time thinking up creative novelty screen-wipes topical to literally every scene, into a game???).

The development for the Eek! The Cat video game is overall lazy and concerning that it raises a lot of questions. In 1993, CTA, the developer of the game had made a game called Sleepwalker for computer consoles. The game was about a boy named Lee who was found climbing out his bedroom window and sleepwalking. Lee's dog Ralph sees this and follows him to see what's next and then after it's your goal to guide Lee as Ralph. The game wasn't released as a port for any home consoles. But a year after the release of Sleepwalker, Eek! The Cat somehow came to CTA's attention. They took that license, copy and pasted everything Sleepwalker had from its concept to gameplay, re-designed it from the characters, levels, sounds, and music. Eek! The Cat is not something you would turn into an escort game to be honest. Unless the premise of a better game would have Eek's girlfriend Annabelle kidnapped by some evil doer and Eek needs to travel a bizarre journey of crazy, fucked up levels, it shouldn't have been a game. Only good things about the game would be the opening cutscene, the soundtrack, and graphics. It had potential!

not that kids are incapable of knowing when something is bad because i've played some games that i "knew" were bad BUT i think because if the age we live in we get spoiled with a lot of things that get better and better and better, so whenever you look back there's always a huge chance that something you used to like doesn't match up to how you felt about it years ago. there are some classics that are always going to be amazing but when you play stuff that shows its age its kind of a risk. Shaq Fu isn't an amazing game but i think 12 year old you was able to enjoy something while it was new before we all got spoiled with more amazing stuff. kind of a "deep" answer but i think old technology should still get "some" credit. (even the "meh" stuff)

@@GwyndolinOwO i would be inclined to agree with you if it werent for the fact that games that came out on older hardware before shaq fu werent really bad and unfun to play
@GwyndolinOwO Жыл бұрын
@@scrung in some ways i agree and disagree. I think that really just depends who you ask. Some genres age better (or worse) than others as well. fighting games do fall into that group, since a lot of older hardware has limitations that we're not used to now. a lot of combat games will feel pretty stiff or clunky. but i also guess it depends what perspective you wanna take. if you wanna compare old games to new ones, sure, a lot of them aged like milk in a warm room. But i also dont disagree with people who look at games in the context of when they were made. Even if they are unfun now- games made in the 80's and 90's didn't have our modern games to even compare them to, so people had fun playing the good ones. obviously the idea of a "good game" is super subjective so i can't really tell you that you're wrong, i just don't agree that old games are bad just because they are old. (but i do agree that a chunk of them aged badly, or weren't very good to begin with, but there's games like that in every era, not just on older hardware)
@scrung Жыл бұрын
@@GwyndolinOwO i agree, i don't think games are bad just because they are old, i mean shit, i said there are good games released on older consoles than the SNES. i think shaq fu contributed to the world of video games by setting a precedent of what not to do if you are developing a fighting game
