Not on Casual difficulty from my experience. Casual difficulty prevents that, and speedrunner makes you use advanced techniques. Masochist, though... You just need to stay out of spots that require another item that you don't have to get out.

i think its mostly just the morph ball, bombs, and suit upgrades the others can be worked around for the most part and the chances of getting super missiles, power bombs and missiles are pretty likely due to the amount of expansions everywhere.

does everyone suck at explaining mockball or something? theres more to it than just "morph before you hit the ground, don't bounce." You have to sprint and then jump, and while midair, dont release jump and aim down, then just before you land morph and quickly hold right again while still holding the jump button. Vinny got me looking at the lore for the "Mochtroids." Apparently the lore is they are failed cloning attempts by the pirates. Maridia is such a strange area in the game, it feels and looks like something of a dead civilization to me, with it's brick building and what appears to be copper piping. No matter how many times I explore it, I always wonder if their is more to be discovered.

10:12 Yeah no kidding In Normal Super Metroid I know the location of every item and it still takes me 5 hours to beat the game. I actually 100% the game pretty recently but since I took so long I didn't get the best ending. 230 Missiles, 50 Super Missiles, 50 Power Bombs, 14 Energy Tanks, 4 Reserve tanks, Grapple Beam, X-RAY Scope, and Every Upgrade.

Star fox 64 randomizer - bosses can appear randomly items locations are randomized and some objects (like asteroids or other breakable objects.) are in random places too. Sometimes when you're on a on-rail section of a stage a all-range mode boss could appear. Maybe it would stalk you through the level like andross's final form. And your only objective is to reach the end of the level instead of fight any bosses at the end. And sometimes separate members of starwolf plus appear randomly or maybe sometimes teammates like Kat or Bill could appear in a stage.

Kinkachuu Pretty sure they both halve damage, so that when you have both you only take 25% damage.

If Gravity is equipped, damage is lowered to a quarter. Else, if Varia is equpped, damage is halved. That's how the damage reductions work exactly. However, Mother Brain's rainbow beam and the big Metroid a bit before only check for Varia but not Gravity, which is why Gravity doesn't make Varia completely obsolete.

With some hex editing you can rip gravity's temperature protection which makes varia have more sense
