For me an underrated aspect of We Love Katamari is that every level was playable local co-op, so I'd often play it with my siblings to try and see if we could get a better score in co-op than solo. I was always disappointed in later games only having a small selection of co-op specific levels instead of getting to play the whole game like that, it's one of those features that always made We Love Katamari the best one in my eyes.

For a lot of people, this was their first, possible only Katamari game. Yet for some reason, the devs decided the story is "you loved the first game, so let's help out the fans", and the difficulty assumes you aced the first game, leading to new players constantly getting result screens with varying levels of "YOU FUCKED UP THIS IS PATHETIC" I got good results on every stage, but I was playing this cute rolling game like Doom Eternal, anxious and resetting to get everything right.

The Switch version of the game at least still imports the star and constellation data from Katamari Damacy ReROLL, but they don't count for your collection the way they did originally. That's partly because this one is based on the PAL version of the game, which put Cousin Planets in instead since Katamari Damacy didn't get ported to Europe or South America until ReROLL. I still think it's the best version of We 💜Katamari.

We love definitely isnt just better, both games are equal in quality and have strengths and weaknesses that complement eachother. Damacy has pretty much no pop-in, a slightly better ost, and a better sense of progression, but the sequel excels with its level variety, shockingly emotional story, and better unlockable content.
