I've actually been playing this a lot lately. There may not be as many randomization options (yet), but I love the QoL and buttery smoothness this version brings. Although I've been getting some pretty cursed seeds. Both magic meters locked behind a truckload of tokens, _while_ playing tokensanity so I can't just deliberately rush them down? Light Arrows behind the Ocarina of Time check, so I _have_ to clear every dungeon even though I set it to medallions only? This stuff has me doing that unhinged Ganondorf laugh from the WW ending.

it somewhat looks uncanny since its just texture replacing, if only we could also have the 3d models for the world as well it would look better but sadly modding the pc port has been somewhat limited even though it wasnt meant to be this way or simply there isnt anyone interested

@@Ikarusu it's also hampered by the fact that it's combining the n64 lighting with the 3ds assets. the 3ds version's lighting is generally _much_ brighter than the n64 version (see the final battle for a good demonstration of that), and because of that, its assets look weirdly dull when placed under the n64 version's lighting.

Yeah, the stretch on some of the textures is really miserable in some spots. There are some other texture packs that take this into account and end up looking really nice at least.

It's running on his Uncle Funzalo's (who worked with Nintendo) highly modified, super overclocked N64 that is also liquid cooled. To modify randomizer settings, he simply flips switches located under the N64's ram expansion bay, switches that are unknown to 98.5% of N64 owners to this very day. On his totally real N64 game consoleTM.

I am very glad that Ship of Harkinian now has the randomizer built in. And I have an HD texture pack that is pretty faithful, and a mod that swaps the models (like character models and such) with OoT 3DS models. So it still feels like the original, but "enhanced/upgraded" (just how I prefer it for now). I am anxiously awaiting for 2Ship2Harkinian to get the Majora randomizer built in!

I've had plenty of other scratches and scrapes before OoT came out though. Blood is really not a big deal... I had the original version of OoT and didn't know about the "green blood" version until *many years* later.

It's kind of crazy. The 3DS remaster of Ocarina of time has an E 10+ rating for animated blood, but the original just has an E rating.

The E10+ rating didn't exist until 2005, and they usually don't bother re-rating old games. The ESRB was also definitely less stringent about ratings back then. (see the E-rated Heart of Darkness on PS1)

I've played a lot of randomizer runs myself it's such a good and fun way to just more quickly reexperience a favorite game and in a slightly different way (plus to flex skill and knowledge). Do the same for Paper Mario and DK64. Would be neat to see oot get a Render96 style mod.

Vinny you don't have to match the tempo when doing the skull kid song check in the lost woods, just memorize the notes and you can play them fast, but not too fast or the game won't register the inputs.

Ocarina of Time: Master Quest, more like Ocarina of Time: PC Master Race Quest because it's the best possible version of OOT. Ship of Harkinian is such an amazing port (no pun intended), even from just the increased framerate, camera controls, gyro, D-pad items/instantly equippable boots, and built in randomizer alone. Not to mention the many many tweaks and options you can mess with. *and it's named after the best King in the series MY BOI*

It's probably because I grew up with the 3DS version, but I thought it looked nice. I still appreciated the N64 version from youtube videos, but I liked the more vibrant colors and painterly look of textures from the remaster. The visual changes didn't affect gameplay if I'm remembering correctly, unlike the Halo remaster where shots could seemingly be blocked due to new visual geometry still using the old geometry for collisions. It does look kinda weird in widescreen though. I thought it looked better on the screen of the 3DS.

I think folks don't realize that you need more than just a high framerate and "high-res" textures to make a game look good. If you don't account for changes in model proportions and animations or lighting or palettes then you get what looks like a shitpost unity game or a weird 3d flash game from the 2000s. I think if people want to "modernize" visuals for games they like then there's nothing wrong with that - I actually came around a bit on the framerate as the video went on - but it requires more work than just a straight texture replacement to look natural.

It probably has to do with the overall aesthetic of the game. Some games were built around a low framerate in mind because of the limitations of the hardware it was designed for. For example: If you try setting a higher framerate for MGS1 on PS1 which was built for 30fps, it will break the cutscenes and make everything look like it's moving in fast forward motion.
