@@hollenhammer Ignoring the schizo who earlier commented, standards _were_ different back then. The mere fact that blatantly misogynistic adverts back then were _allowed_ to be printed in the first place goes to show the shift in standards when compared to today. You'd be hard-pressed to find a gaming magazine or other form of publication that would allow some of these adverts to be printed today.

Oh my god. Someone went through my old Tumblr for these, I'm sure of it! For about 7 years I ran a Tumblr called Video Game Print Ads, and while I wasn't the only or the first to pursue this as a topic and some in here were not my finds, I definitely scanned some of these! (At least the ones for SpongeBob and Little Nicky) Most of these came from outside sources, most dominantly the Internet Archive.

At 32:20 the photo with a light bulb is a historical photo, so i'm not sure if this is a parody or an actual ad. "In the suburban village of Kashino Volokolamsk district, November 14, 1920 earned the first rural power plant. Vladimir Lenin was invited to visit the opening with his wife Nadezhda Krupskaya, who were vacationing near the village. At the appointed time, the chief arrived in the settlement by car and made a fiery speech. In this situation, for the first time in the whole of Russia lit “Ilyich’s lamp”

8:50 From Wikipedia: In the sport of ferret-legging, competitors tie their trousers at the ankles before placing two ferrets inside and securely fastening their belts to prevent the ferrets from escaping. Each competitor then stands in front of the judges for as long as he can. Competitors cannot be drunk or drugged, nor can the ferrets be sedated. In addition, competitors are not allowed to wear underwear beneath their trousers, which must allow the ferrets free access from one leg to the other, and the ferrets must have a full set of teeth that must not have been filed or otherwise blunted. The winner is the person who lasts the longest. The sport is said to involve very little "native skill", simply an ability to "have your tool bitten and not care". The former world champion, Reg Mellor, is credited with instituting the practice of wearing white trousers in ferret-legging matches, to better display the blood from the wounds caused by the animals. Competitors can attempt, from outside their trousers, to dislodge the ferrets, but as the animals can maintain a strong hold for long periods, their removal can be difficult. The ferrets are occasionally put inside the contestants' shirts in addition to their trousers. An attempt to introduce a female version of the sport-ferret busting, in which female contestants introduced ferrets down their blouses-proved unsuccessful.

Some of these ads really had no mercy. This was back when Companies HAD to actually compete to make good products, otherwise no one would buy them. For example: These ads are funny, extremely well designed, had only one picture and made me generally interested in their products Adverts today are so perfectly mismanaged, corporate sludge to the point where they force you to watch the AD.
