I was a teen in the UK and had Mind's Eye ordered from Shrapnel. It sounded unlike a lot of shred, it was mega melodic. I remember Mr Moore talking about a guy called Larry Carlton being a big influence on him. A big thank you for that reference Mr Moore as I got into Larry Carlton, Steely Dan and then jazz. Mr Moore opened my sonic world massively.

Yes indeed, and as a fusion fan myself I found many of the shredders boring, but Vinnie had more in his arsenal as you say. I often thought he had shades of Al Di Meola too. He and Gregg Howe were the two shredders I could listen to whilst the rest soon became boring to me for their lack of harmonic and melodic invention. Great to see a Vinnie still tearing it up🎸🤘🏻

He has a signature Dean, why would he be playing a Kramer?? Absolutely killer still, thanks for sharing!!
@xpander8140Ай бұрын
Vinnie has not been a Dean endorsed artist for a while anymore, he left like some other big names did. Reasons were discussed and debated in guitar forums. As for the Kramer, he's kinda back to his early days. Afaik, Kramer Pacer was his first "shred" guitar after the Stratocaster he owned. These new ones he's been playing for couple of years now are not regular off the shelf models. They have been specifically modified for him, but not available as a signature model...at least not yet.

This is one of those guys who's always left out of the GOAT's conversation. I am guilty of it too. This is one of those guys that your favorite guitar player will say is an influence and had a huge impact on their career. No one would call him "underrated" by any stretch, but his name is often over looked. I always hear the same names like Vai, Satch, Page, Clapton, EVH...but every one of those would tell you Vinnie is THE man
@johnnywilson31322 ай бұрын
Vinnie Moore is a true virtuoso guitarist AND songwriter in my opinion. He has all the chops of Yngwie, but writes WAY better music. I've also never understood why Vinnie hasn't been on the G3 tour as a regular guest. How can Joe and Steve have that dork from Def Leppard on G3 but not Vinnie?! Phil Collen is a mediocre guitarist at best.
@funkysanta9052Ай бұрын
Clapton for me personally is more of a singer/songwriter/guitarist than a virtuoso shredder. He is more like the archetype of what guys like John Mayer would later be. I would say Chris Impelliteri, Paul Gilbert and Tony McAlpine are in the same virtuoso shredder category as Vinnie Moore rather than Clapton.
@valuedhumanoid6574Ай бұрын
@@funkysanta9052 Yes, you are correct. But back in the 70's when he was doing all the Bluesbreaker stuff he was THE MAN. That's where the "Clapton is God" phrase came from. He did things on the guitar that had never been seen or heard of, a real innovator. That's really the reason I included him in that statement. Just a giant in the realm of guitar
