3:26 I like this way of securing ribbing/wire. Allows torque to secure the wire and thread to guard against shearing. Additionally, look at that nice taper on the thorax. Can't help but think the wire butt helped.

Do you find the half hitch mag bobbin cuts the thread a lot while tying a fly ?

I have the half hitch rite and it never cuts thread. Ceramic is fallacy; steel never cuts thread for me. the only time I break thread is when i nick the barb or point or put too much tension on the thread

Do you like to strip that fly or can you even dead drift it? I know that they are very good swimmers too.

I do both oftentimes in the same drift. Most of the time I'll just briefly stop the rod moving during a dead drift, hold for a second or two then pull the rod downstream a bit to add some slack and put the nymph back into a natural drift. This works much better when you are fishing close with not much line out. In slower water I'll use more of a strip.
