I bought an actual Paul smashed Marauder from the 70s for a lot less than that. I met Eric Singer at a music shop in NB Canada, and he signed all kinds of stuff for free. He had a bunch of Pearl promo posters to give out for those that didn't bring anything to sign. Asking money for signatures is totally wrong. I can see charging for an album or concert - work went into that. A signature is part of being famous and respected by so many.
@muziktrkr Жыл бұрын
Something like a clinic is a paid promotion so it's not a big deal to signed stuff (same with NAMM conventions), but because it's signed KISS memorabilia that can fetch thousands of dollars, they charge for meet and greets. Bands in general just want to get up on stage, play, and relax, so these meet and greets are actually kind of get in the way of their "free time" but when they're being told they can pocket 10K?? It's easy work.

It's not a question of Vinnie being out of touch. You're giving him too much credit by saying that. Vinnie is a con artist; which is a much more serious situation. A con artist finds ways to get money regardless of any ethical business practices. Gene made a comment some 30 years ago about Vinnie: "He was unethical." Vinnie knows these items do not have the value he's asking for them. The point is he doesn't care. He's depending on suckers to latch onto this. The whole irony about Vinnie is that he was in Kiss for like 18 months but for some reason he still has this cult following of people who are interested in him. Does Bruce Kulick have the same following? Probably not. Bruce was in Kiss for 12 years. Where is the rabid Bruce Kulick cult of fans? There's something about Vinnie that fascinates people. He's like a Jesus figure to Kiss fans. People need to snap out of the Vinnie Vincent fantasy. He hasn't released an album since 1988. Honestly, the only item of value that he may or may not have would be one of his Jackson double V guitars that he played back in the day. And who knows if it was one that he actually used. His track record of dishonesty is too large to trust him on anything.

How does it not register with Vinnie that the prices he charges for his merch are beyond outrageous? For God's sake, he has a history of being a shifty bastard who never delivers on any of his empty promises. By all accounts, he still hasn't reimbursed the fans for putting money down on that cassette box set he was selling in the mid 90's that never went into production and nobody ever received. And lest we forget that recent bullshit line he spewed about giving the fans 2 box sets each at an appearance from a few years ago. They'll be waiting for those box sets for a long time to come!

I attended CreaturesFest, and brought my LIU & COTN tour books, and a couple of LPs. I'd bought the VIP package, so was "front of line" for the V.V. photo opp. While I was in line, I saw his "manager(?)" write-up V.V.'s autograph price list. I couldn't believe it there. As a VIP payer, I believe I was entitled to one "free" VV autograph. But, after my photo opp, I just left and went elsewhere in the expo to enjoy other things. Meanwhile my travel companion waited about 3 hours or more for that fellow to autograph his mini-guitar. Disgusting treatment of fans. Oh, and btw, I was one of those "3-sides fans" who did the Blackie M&G in Detroit with Mr. C. Indeed, that was a fantastic time! Hands down.

All I can say is that there are lots of people around that love to be screwed. Don't think music - look at colleagues at your workplace. Tons of them complain all the time - money is bad, manager is bad, company in general is bad - YET they keep working, tolerate all the abuse and only a few have strength to say, "I've had enough, I'm moving on" and go somewhere else. Consuming products is even worse - you work at some job, take your hard-earned money and give them to a guy who's been sitting on his rotten couch for decades, not willing to pick up his instrument and simply saying, "I won't ever do anything for you but I want your money". Wherever this Vinnie Vincent is he's the most shameless person in the music world and should have been long forgotten about.

It's always kinda fun to lay into VV for his behavior, but he's clearly been dealing with issues that have gone untreated for his entire life. The paranoia, delusions, and disorganization could be some form of personality disorder if not schizophrenia. Yeah he's ridiculous and the stories about his bullshit are funny, but I also feel bad for him because I think he needs real help.

Back at the Atlanta expo a few years ago, Vinnie could have done the right thing (like Mark said) and had a nice little relaunch of his career (or lack of it) The fans would have loved it, but he chose greed & laziness over that and went for the quick fast buck. Then the exploitation. I honestly think he's worn out his welcome. The sad thing is he's burned so many bridges with promoters and other people, even if he did something legit now (like a real band touring) at this point I don't think too many people would care. He could have played to 2 or 3,000 seaters easily, but now he would be lucky to fill a small 100-capacity club. There's a lesson to be learned here, you only get so many chances to redeem yourself. To each their own, but why on earth would I pay $500 to go see VV when I can see ACE do a kick-ass show (with a full, awesome band) for less than $100. It's a no-brainer.

I have to ask, and with all due respect- What is the love for Vinnie as a player? I’m a shred guitarist and I’ve never found Vinnie as anything other than someone who wants to fit every note into a solo without much style or grace. He can write a good song sure, but usually the only material of his I like is when he’s a co-writer and not the sole writer. Am I missing something, some genius of Vinnie I’m not understanding?
@darthslater6077 Жыл бұрын
I AM ALSO A SHREDDER BUT I ALSO THINK THAT 70'S PLAYERS WERE FAR MORE MELODIC PLAYERS THEN ANYTHING AFTER THAT TIME PERIOD.
@jamesmccormick8754 ай бұрын
I’m a professional guitarist myself. I don’t get it either. His lead work is awful when he’s left to play without restraint. The first Invasion album is a perfect example. His solos are not only awful, but so loud in the mix you can’t hear anything but them. He thinks playing a bunch of chromatic notes as fast as possible sounds good. He was trying to out do Yngwie, and failed miserably. Yngwie not only plays fast, but he has a little soul in his playing. Something Vinny has none of. Oh, and Yngwie plays the right notes, not just every note. I watched Vinny’s Guitar Method video on KZbin, from that era. It is hilarious! He admits that he pretty much plays every note. He’s also creepy in the video. He mugs to the camera as if to say “ Yep, I’m the best ever.” Paul said Vinny was intensely jealous of guys like Randy Rhoads and later Jake E Lee, because Vinny thought he was better than them! That shows you the ego on that guy. I think Vinny is a great song writer and could be, when restrained, a great lead player, but no where near the class of player Jake is let alone Randy, a man that changed rock guitar forever. In the end, Vinny isn’t a guitar God nor is he close to one. I’d take Ace, Bob and Bruce Kulick over him any day of the week.

I don’t think it’s a secret to anyone that VV is probably financing his very existence on the backs of KISS fans. Michael is absolutely right - it’s pure greed and someone should remind him that ripping off the very fans who put him in the spotlight (albeit four decades ago) not only makes him look desperate, but pretty lame. Yes, being in KISS was a huge accomplishment, but VV’s place in the band was a blip on their timeline and, by most accounts, a fairly tempestuous one. VV - bending over your fans to the tune of three figures for a selfie won’t endear you to anyone.

Not only that. According to an article that appeared in Rolling Stone, sometime in the late 1990's, a concert promoter gave Vinnie something like $27-29,000 to play a series of concerts in Europe and Vinnie took the money and didn't do the shows. This has to be a true story. I heard someone--Robert Fleischman, I think--say it happened on a clip I heard on Decibel Geek. If it didn't really happen, Vinnie could've sued Rolling Stone for libel or defamation of character. Vinnie didn't sue Rolling Stone because he knew they could prove what they were alleging. This was just one of many shady things Vinnie has done.

Just my opinion but perhaps a fun idea - you know how Paul was disillusioned with releasing new music after nobody gave a hoot about Monster? Personally, that rigid pro-tools production and no theme to resonate with anything fans were feeling would be unfair to blame on others… so why don’t Vinnie collaborate with KISS to redo Boys Are Gonna Rock and all the songs that would have been better had they worked together? Rework some on later albums, rework some of Vinnie’s and get a proper producer to make them sound like theirselves again?

I can tell you this…I pretty much dare to bet my life on it that nothing is the original thing. I was on tour with this guy as Eric Carr in a KISS tribute band in 1996 through Europe. Somebody who was with us (Alexx, who was in one of your podcast shows earlier talking about that same tour) paid, this is from my memory, 5000 dollars for an original flying V guitar that was Vinnie’s. He paid in advance and Vinnie brought a cheap version of a Flying V he must have bought just before the tour. Truth be told; Vinnie was kind to us, but nevertheless I lost all respect for him during that tour. I know the guy. I hung out with him for two weeks and he is all bullshit. Hi guys, was just passing through & stopped in to see what you were talking about in regards to Vinnie. That's crazy money to pay for anything Vinnie related. I'm not that big of a fan of anyone to pay that price for anything anyhow. So, that's really a lot of money for Vinnie's ugly mug ;). Referring to the Polaroids. I'm sure a lot of fans don't have that kind of cash for something so trivial. So yes, Vinnie is outright stealing. This is also proof he doesn't care about the fans. He needs to pad his pockets. Does Vinnie do anything else for income? Is he living off royalties & the few shows that he does? He either has a lot of bills, is living beyond his means or is just a straight up con. Maybe, all three. When you were talking about stealing, I sincerely thought about Bon Jovi. Don't know how much he charges for extras (Meet & Greets, etc) but he owes everyone a refund for those horrendous shows during the last tour when he could not sing. Can't be convinced he thought his voice was okay at the beginning of that tour to sustain his vocals until the end. Nope! To me, that's intentional planned stealing. Gotta get those last few big paychecks. Some disagree & think he's touring for the fans. Nope, I disagree. It looks like greed to me. He does come across as a pompous a$$. Just today, I heard he's in the process of negotiating with Richie to hit the road for a new tour. Richie can sing. Would Jon have contacted Richie, if he was still able to sing? I highly doubt it. That's my rant about JBJ. You can tell by reading between the lines, I'm not a big fan of Jon. It'll be interesting to see if Richie takes the bait for this tour. He does deserve a paycheck. He's been in the band since the beginning & helped Bon Jovi become the band it is today. We will probably never know the truth about what really happened between the two. So, there you go! Big thumbs down for Vinnie & Jon Bon Jovi. 👎👎Went ahead & subbed too! 🎸🎸

As a fan, Vinnie is such a disappointment. I love what he did with KISS. Also though, to me, his Warrior era music is fantastic. He was so talented as a songwriter, guitarist and even a singer. I would be a huge fan of his, if he had stayed on that course, or even if he went back to it now, released music and was consistent. He had such a great sense of melody and those songs were excellent. The guitar playing was tasteful. Very solid material. The proof of that, is that other artists covered his songs, namely, “Back On The Streets” and “Tears”. I can’t believe the same didn’t happen with “Gypsy In Her Eyes”. That’s an incredible song. For me, he went off the rails with Vinnie Vincent Invasion. Over the top guitar playing and ridiculous vocals. In my opinion, he ruined some of his great songs on the versions on those VVI albums. Imagine what he could have done if he followed Ace’s model of playing up the KISS character aspect, as much as he legally could and put out the type of music he did just prior to and with KISS. Unfortunately, he has too many demons, whatever they are. He and the fans lose out, due to those demons. While he is delusional, I believe he has to charge the outrageous amounts for his “memorabilia”, events etc. because he just doesn’t have the fan base to do anything else and is unwilling to tour, put out releases that appeal to a broader fan base etc. As a result, he has a small, hard core following of people that will pay for his events at SIR and he will try to milk anyone of as much money he can get. Hell, he won’t tour, because, for whatever reason, he won’t even play with a real drummer anymore. It seems like Eric Carr is the one drummer he’s ever worked with that I’ve heard him speak positively of. That’s convenient for him to say, because Eric is gone and he can’t play with Vinnie anymore. I wish Vinnie had more of that pre-KISS/KISS greatness he was willing to share with the world, but I think that ship has sailed. It’s too bad for all of us who are his fans and would still be, if he made more of an effort to make the musician/fan relationship more of a mutual one. I don't know of any other artist doing what he does. It's a new "business model" for musicians, I guess. An alienating and bad business model.

Regarding customer data, if it similar to what my company does as an e-commerce partner, the data is captured with payment info (which is super secure) but depending on the arrangement, the mailing list portion may be accessible in some arrangements. It sounds lime the KISS setup has clear divisions /separation, which makes sense.

Excellent episode and extremely fair to VV. I was once a huge VV fan and was in the camp of being ready to box Michael over the Vinnie eta and if he saved KISS (😘) but in the last few years, he's lost me for good. It's sad.

Vinnie is a fraud, $5000 for a plastic guitar pick?, its not 24 carat gold with incrusted diamonds, and having fans paying for meet and greets and then make them pay for a autograph that's double dipping, and charging a high prices for merchandise, what a joke, and he wasn't an official member of Kiss because he didn't sign any contracts, and he has tried to sue Kiss and has failed.

Sad to see the personal attacks and bathroom humor on a member of the Kiss family who helped reinvigorate the band on several occasions. If smacks of bullying someone who the guy in the upper left and the guy on the bottom view as defenseless. Totally classless. I cannot imagine that Gene and Paul would condone such an attack, it is totally cringe-worthy. Your underlying point was regarding Vinnie's pricing and your personal attacks detract from your message. I feel sorry for the guy in the upper-right have to sit there and listen to it. Vinnie has children that may read these personal attacks as do the other Kiss fans. Why don't you apologize to him and get some of your humanity back? Regarding pricing, this isn't a communist country, it is a capitalistic free market economy especially when it pertains to luxury items like collectibles. Sellers of such items can charge whatever they want. Perhaps some wealthy fans would buy at those prices. If not then Vinnie could adjust his prices accordingly. It's up to him. There is nothing wrong with capitalizing on one's celebrity, it happens all the time. For a musician who isn't selling new music or touring, why not use his celebrity to generate income? The other former members have done the same. I mean Bruce is pushing pancakes and while it may seem odd, there is nothing wrong with it to generate income. Gene and Paul wrote the book on it.

Can I send you some tissues for all those tears, good lord! VV is garbage and can’t be trusted in my personal opinion. If that bothers you, leave.
