He would have given Slayer's solos the melodicism and the logic they lack while maintaining the insane shred meter running. Whoever says 'random note' has no concept of scales beyond diatonic and pentatonics, VV used motifs from Lydian Dominant, Diminished and Phrygian major scales as well as occasional whole tone passages and well as significant amounts of fairly well placed chromaticism between scale tones on certain patterns/ passages. Are his solos here especially over the top and bombastic? Sure, but go study harmony, fellas, open you ears beyond lead guitar 101 vocabulary.

He does a lot of great stuff here. So many cool things. The problem is he has to play super fast 99% of the time. It can't be some cool 5-10 second shred sessions here and there within a nice melodic solo. It's almost like he feels he NEEDS to play fast, and not only does it take the emotion out from the solo, but it also ruins what could have been very legendary solos altogether.
@Atari2600Gamer5 жыл бұрын
Are you kidding? The shredding IS his emotion. Makes sense knowing what his career has been like and how he works with others
@alienstarguest7 жыл бұрын
To Vinnie's credit he can put together songs for public consumption. It's odd how he plays the noodling technique so much. These methods are generally pleasing to the player, but only a small portion of the audience. If he could bring his melodic sense of songcraft into his guitar playing, some memorable stuff would come from it. Carlos Santana once said "its not how fast, but how deep". True that. But I also understand there are some fans that enjoy Malmstein, Vinnie Shredwork..etc....thats ok too. But its generally panned in favor of better songcraft. In ending, I will say, I wish I could do what he is doing. Only I think I would channel that in more different ways. So hats off to the technical talent here. Btw, for those saying its 'sloppy'....no way. Yes, there is a lot of Chromatics going on, but its placed in good context. But, do people like it? A lot don't. I will agree with another comment on here, tone wasnt the best.

Some of his demos were pretty cool and the playing was actually melodic and his playing outstanding. He can write well. He plays way too much for my tastes. But, when he’s constrained, when he has boundaries, the guy is great. He does do the best turkey gobble solos ever. Even though he doesn’t hit bad notes and plays in time. Still, turkey gobbles.

he is no Randy Rhoads or George Lynch fast lot of notes but overall irritating

the guy could shred the guitar and those volume swells were awesome, most the people criticizing him here, are probably pushing 300lbs, have never played an instrument and are eating macaroni as they type.

Funny...except for the "have never played an instrument" part, you have described Vinnie exactly to a "T"...OH, and the fact that he's now a woman.

He’s talented. I mean you can have your own opinion, that’s fine. But there are different types of guitar playing. Some people like heavy, wild, crazy shredding. And some people like more organized stuff. Vinnie knows what he’s doing and is skilled in his guitar playing. He’s awesome.

Judging from the comments you either love or hate him. I always thought he was cool.

Being a SoCal teen in the 80's totally infatuated by "Hair" Metal-Shredders, I have to say I was floored the first time I heard "Shoot you full of my love" on KLOS or KMET, or when MTV ran 'Boyz are gonna rock". Even though you may not agree with it, Vinnie's playing was different and stood out, I mean c'mon! Hey at least give him credit for the non-fine tuner Floyd Rose sounding somewhat in tune (that was my nightmare trem!) I think everyone wanted to get noticed some way, but I was really blown away by guys like Jake E. Lee and Warren DeMartini.

I enjoy Vinnie. Both of those Invasion albums were really good .
