For those who never got to watch him play, I'll just say that the guy was incredible. He was one of those rare talents who clearly stood head and shoulders above the rest, on a crowded field filled with elite athletes. During his last season, he was moved to Free Safety because he could cover so much ground and could anticipate so well. He somehow became frighteningly better than he already was. His work ethic was scary, sometimes he would actually run to and from practice. He'd be at the facility at like 5am running wind sprints on the field by himself. I can't remember who said it, but they said, "Every game Sean would do something to remind everyone that he wasn't from this planet and the rest of us were." I can tell you that's 100% accurate, there would be random plays where a guy looked wide open with green grass ahead and out of nowhere, a blindingly fast blur would shoot across the screen and destroy the guy. You didn't even have to wait to see the guy get up, you knew it was Sean Taylor. Forced fumble, Sean Taylor. Interception, Sean Taylor. Fumble recovery, Sean Taylor. Unbelievable pass breakup, Sean Taylor. Devastating hit, Sean Taylor. The guy played defense like it was offense... You weren't giving it to him, he was giving it to you. The crazy thing is that he was such an elite physical specimen that if he hadn't been murdered, he could still be playing in 2021. He would be 38 years old. RIP Sean.

He is the greatest athlete I have ever seen, hands down. There have other safeties who were better players (Reed, Lott, etc.), but no player has ever jumped off the screen as being head and shoulders ahead of their peers like Sean Taylor did. Even in the NFL playing against the biggest and fastest dudes on the planet, he was a man amongst boys. And college-forget it! One of the great "what-ifs" of my time. Ed Reed was the best safety I have ever seen, but Sean Taylor was the greatest athlete to ever play safety.

Sitizen Kane Wasn't Ed Reed a Strong Safety though?
@sitizenkanemusic8 жыл бұрын
CoDWiiPS3Gameplay When he played for the Ravens, which used a 3-4, he would line up on both the strong (primarily), center field, and weak side. In that kind of defense, there isn't really a difference between the two.
@CoDWiiPS3Gameplay8 жыл бұрын
Sitizen Kane Ah, I see. Thanks for the info! I normally just assume teams all run a 4-3, therefore making the difference between the safeties more visible.
@tonybleau38177 жыл бұрын
Sitizen Kane the SS is the one they will matchup on a TE...he lines up on the strong side basically and is usually a bit closer to the line of scrimmage before plays and assists more often on running plays and can even line up in the box (watch Kam Chancellor...hes also often times a bit larger and less quick than the FS...FS is most often the furthest from the line before the play starts...he's the guy that will most often times cover downfield receivers and have the best ball hawking skills...you want your free safety to read the pass perfectly (like Ed Reed) and run stopping ability is a great + for a FS... The difference can vary from team to team depending on the schemes they use and the ability of their players at those positions but the main difference is that the SS is more proficient vs the run and the FS is more proficient vs the pass

He could have been the Cam Newton or Calvin Johnson of the safety position. There were moments in Sean's career that showed how great he truly was on the field. Right place and right time, he's the best, in the clutch. He wasn't as quick as Ed, but he was faster. He wasn't as prolific, Sean was more dominant. Players loathed Ed, they feared Sean. Ed has more highlights, Sean's best highlights are unbelievable. At his best, he owned the field, everyone was at his mercy.
