Fun Fact: The full, uncut stomp montage clocks in at a length of about 4 minutes and 50 seconds, and contained all 645 stomps in the entire playthrough (I kept track of all of them). The PAIN song was not long enough to keep playing throughout the whole thing. Truly, they loved the pain

Making Issac talk in the remake works a lot more than I thought it would tbh. What sold me is the first line I hear is him voicing concern. It always made me laugh how much a needlessly stoic asshole he was to see a dude get ripped apart and just go “hhhh”. If they made him flail his arms around as well, it would really sell the panic in that part imo

Isaac's screaming is like the best screams i have heard ever, dude obliterates his vocal cords
@nathane52875 ай бұрын
I was really positively surprised as well on how much giving him a voice helped, it gave Isaac more agency, made the relationships make more sense, and just overall more depth. -Agency, in that he's the engineer brought along for his expertise, in the original Hammond the security officer and Kendra the computer analyst were saying out loud the objectives that they technically "shouldn't know" but were forced to order Isaac around because of the limitation of a mute protagonist, now in the remake Isaac is the expert who knows how to fix the engineering problems that are the obstacles he faces, it just makes you feel more empowered as well as just roots you more into the scenario with less hand-waving and suspension of disbelief. -They could retroactively work in a lot more nuance to the whole Nicole & Isaac relationship so that it would stop being mere windowdressing as it was in the original, and have more of the actual elements as were built into DS2, the added subplots, him getting react to Nicole, just is an overall improvement over the OG. -I just loved how they also made some cool details like how when Isaac slowly got crazier, it was clear he was sort of aware of it, the tired way he addresses Kyne later in the game ("if you're real...") and he almost spitefully wants to wrestle the necromorphs for the marker in the hangar. -They did all of this without going overboard, it could have been so easy for a AAA studio to make their protagonist nonstop chatter about every single "thought" they have and spell out every single puzzle solution out loud for the player and quip and need to voice their opinions about every event occurring in front of them, but Motive practiced restraint, and it made for a compelling character, a no-nonsense engineer who's emotionally very damaged already long before getting onboard the Ishimura, but still tries to cling to their problem-solving practical reasonable mindset and their conflicting desperate hopes.
@conjim5 ай бұрын
it's cool that Isaac gets different voice lines if you do the side stuff, he stops sounding like a scared dude at his limit, and more like the marker has it's claws fully in him, and he's totally okay with it

Well considering he voiced Isaac in Dead Space 2 and 3, I'd assume they already had a good template to work with when it came to incorporating his dialogue into Dead Space 1. They just had to bring his grunts, groans and cursing into gameplay lol
@lilwyvern45 ай бұрын
Not only that, but his delivery changes depending on his health. Isaac speaks clearly at green health, but his voice gets shaky and full of unsteady breathing if he's heavily injured. That is some damn fine attention to detail. When EA _tries_, they can occasionally do amazing things.

So if I remember correctly, here's a bit of trivia about the whole "they brought in on board" trope for this game: It was brought on board because of the death cult, the death cult was created when people were first exposed to the marker found on earth. The cults influence grew over the years. So yeah they brought in on board because to the death cult created by the marker a marker is a holy relic, it also helps the marker makes people go crazy so they probably weren't thinking logically.

11:52 This line makes me wish they had kept the original motif of Isaac being voluntarily silent in the first game. I remember this particular line cementing how potent it is from a narrative standpoint to make Isaac feel like he’s voluntarily quiet because he is brooding, as if he’s aware of the trauma he’s carrying from his relationship and his whole situation. This remake really does justice to the original game in basically every other important aspect though :)
@whateverkat81225 ай бұрын
Which line?
@conelybiscuit49853 ай бұрын
i prefer to think he was silent in DS1 because he was in shock the whole time and it was all just a frenzied, barely-conscious blur for him. the necromorphs are so scary that even your hero devolves into this hunching, roaring, desperate animal more or less on contact, becoming kind of like the necromorphs themselves. while i like what they did with him in the remake, i do wish they had leaned into this aspect for the first chapter or two. yeah he's crisis-trained to fix the Ishimura, but he's still a little too level-headed for a regular guy who just saw those things for the first time. when he revisits the Ishimura in 2 he stutters and pauses and speaks very quietly and tersely, so having him be in that type of state for some of the game and gradually going back into "fed up engineer at 4:50pm on a Friday" mode would have been cool.

This is absolutely brilliant! Much better than all the Resident Evils put together. I hope EA changes their mind and starts production of a Dead Space 2 Remake. Only one downside-from the very beginning to the halfway point of the game, I experienced severe frame drops and an FPS around 100, but 99% of the time the FPS was around 40. (i7-13750HX, 16GB, RTX 4060). The settings are not demanding. DLSS helps a little bit.

I can't get invested in Resident Evil, 2 & 4 are products of its time. But Resident Evil 7 is definitely the best one since it manages to be scary, instead of the corny thrillers the franchise keeps pumping out. But the developers for 7 were in a constant battle against the higher ups to stop them from adding season passes and changing the story to service microtransactions and DLC. So to summarise, Resident Evil is boring but 7 was cool.
@AlexZaglushaka5 ай бұрын
@@scrittle Yes, I agree, RE7 is the only part that truly offered something a bit different, unlike 2, 3, 4, and 8, which could even have been made into one long game, and nothing would have changed.
