Very cool stuff ! Very nice healthy ficus tree, I think its great that you can watch the roots grow and with nice colours. The roots in the water remind me of willow trees here that grow along the edges of water, with exposed roots and reaching into the water. Thanks for sharing your nice collection.

that's very cool. how about if i want to grow the tree say mango at its highest capacity no bonsai. is it possible? and what are ur recommendations?
@VinnyChirayil Жыл бұрын
I would recommend buying a grafted mango sapling which is ready to yield fruit right away & grow it in ground. Don't start with seeds as it will take years for the tree to mature into a fruit bearing one. Grafted saplings bypass this problem. And keep the tree cut to a manageable height if you want to collect fruits. Avoid letting it grow to adult size. I would not recommend growing plants hydroponically unless you yourself see some extra benefit in it & are ready to do the things required for it. If you have land, growing trees in ground is the easiest way. Next would be large pots.

You should prune the roots that were on top of the trunk and let the lower roots develop.
@VinnyChirayil6 жыл бұрын
Hi Mathew, thanks for the feedback and i agree with you. For now, i am just letting it grow wild and i will be a spectator only. I want to see where this experiment leads me, kind of testing the boundaries. The trunk is now 29 inches tall. I hope to grow the tree 8-10 ft tall, as a stick, before intervening. It sure will be a unique specimen on the internet :-) No bonsai plans for it, for now.

Can I repot my water rooted tiny cutting of focus religiosa in crushed bricks.
@VinnyChirayil6 жыл бұрын
Hi Mayank, you can. Just make sure the particle size of the crushed bricks is small, else the roots will dry up. This video shows me moving water rooted cuttings to cocopeat - kzbin.info/www/bejne/iH64qql4pbmqirc

Superb! you have a lovely collection of hydroponic bonsai trees. And peepal bonsai with wonderful roots is simply beautiful.Do you change water of all plants weekly? Also do you fertilize each time? Thanks Vinny for great tutorial.Now I know why my trees with nice roots get rotten. Thanks again for sharing Regards from rainy Doon.
@VinnyChirayil6 жыл бұрын
Thanks Anita :-) Ya, once a week i discard the old water fully, clean the containers and start again. But in hot months, the water dries up fast and many of the small containers need to topped up with NPK rich water almost daily or once in 2 days. If the water becomes warm, i have noticed that the roots die and emit a bad rotting smell and the water turns milky. This problem is acute if the water container is exposed to sunlight for too long. My main balcony has that problem and faces the setting sun. In such cases, i cut off the bottom roots a bit, change water every 2 days and soon fresh roots start growing. Water roots are high maintenance but has its benefits too. In summer, its best to avoid direct sunlight beyond a few hours.
