That was very interesting for me, thank you. Years ago in the 1960s I got a Trix train set for Christmas and my Dad and I spent many hours building a "layout" on a huge board with signal boxes and stations and forests, etc. I think to be honest that my Dad was more enthusiastic than I was about it, but I did enjoy it. That was certainly a trip down memory lane for me. I could be mistaken, but I am convinced that the carriages had lights in them, which was impressive in the dark. I am from the UK, by the way.

OO gauge track is different in the U.S. than England. In the 1930s one of the English model train manufacturers tried to develop HO scale (Half "O"). They ran into problems with the field-coil motors being too big to fit in the smaller locomotives that were made to HO scale. The result was English OO scale - 4mm/1 foot - with HO gauge track. American OO scale has both the larger scale & wider track gauge, which is 3/4". You can look at one of Leonard Williams You Tube videos on OO scale - he has an OO gauge track loop circling his HO scale layout & the difference in track gauge & size of rolling stock is apparent! OO scale is approximately 1/76 scale.

We had a large Trix Twin layout in the 1940's. We started with 2 0-4-0 locos and ended with over 6.. We had 3 transformers and 6 controllers. To run so many locos, the layout was split into sections by sawing through the outer rails. Points were remotely operated and we had about 18 plus 2 crossings. The biggest problem was deposits from the plastic rolling stock wheels. A bit of dirt would operate the reversing control and halt the loco.

Just got identical sets and got them to run under test conditions. Struggling to find much help off the net but your vid helps a lot. What power supply are you going to use?

Hi Sir, what you have is internal track Bakelite and outer Fibre. Post 1945 couplings have a Hornby hook type and before 1939 they had a hook. Looks like yours are after WW2. 14V A/c powered. Spares are available from The TRIX Twin Collectors Association based in England UK. Must be a member though (fee about $20). I love these old guys. The layout is called "915 set". Best wishes Steve

Any chance of explaining how you have connected the power supply up?

I haven't set them up and run them honestly, one of the locos needed wheels replaced. The small tank engine has been run on Marklin three rail track though.

Cool stuff. Do you know if it's compatible with Marklin's AC 3 rail system?

Maybe if you used the early three rail track, these won't run on the later studrail Marklin track.

Thanks for the video I am a big collector of trix twin but your 4-4-0 won’t run as you have the wrong tender
@myjunkisstuffgarage967 Жыл бұрын
Thank you Richard! Yes I have come to realize that recently but may be able to get a correct tender along with a few drive wheels from a new friend and fellow Trix collector! So I hope to complete a make it run video here in the near future!. Stay tuned!
