A margarine commercial that uses the euphemistic phrase "NATURE'S OWN SPREAD" for the product that is commonly known as BUTTER. It is strange that the makers of Imperial doesn't want to acknowledge the existence of butter - WEIRD.

The dairy lobby apparently prohibited any mention of butter in margarine ads until sometime in the late 1960s or 1970s. It was "nature's own spread" or "the high priced spread" or in one commercial they said the margarine was "better than better."

I'm watching an original episode of The Price is Right from the late 50s. They're showing an advertisement for Imperial margarine being better than the $0.70 spreads. What I want to know is what were considered the 70 Cent spread

zorenxam I’m here trying to find the answer to that question! I’m guessing the 70 cent spread was butter. I couldn’t find anything when I googled it, and it’s driving me crazy not knowing!

A quick Google shows a pound of butter cost, on average, 70 cents in 1950. So, I'm betting it was butter.

From Wiki..Margarine was invented in France by Hippolyte Mège-Mouriès in 1869, during the Franco-Prussian wars. He invented it in response to a competitive challenge from the French government under Napoleon III, who was looking for a cheap and stable substitute for butter, and offered a big prize to anyone who could pull it off. CHEAP

I can’t even find imperial. They don’t sell margarine anymore from what I’ve seen. Studies have shown that margarine is really bad for you so they stopped producing it and it’s rare to find.
