The most famous of these Anacin commercials was the first one, which used the line "Mother, please! I'd rather do it myself!" That became a gag phrase used widely at the time, even in a rock song.

Absolutely, hebneh! I had forgotten all about this series of Anacin commercials until one appeared on a re-run of What's My Line the other night. When our mother became exasperated with us we'd imitate her reaction by saying that familiar "Mother, PLEASE...!" line. She'd end up laughing.

Wow! This guy has terrible mood swings! Reminds me of my Ex! Ha! That guy is John Lupton, he co-starred with Michael Ansara on the 1950's TV western, "Broken Arrow". This commercial should be sub-titled, "Broken Marriage. She: "Hurry up dear, or we'll be late for the PTA meeting". He: "Helen! Shut up, and don't talk with your mouth full!"

This is because he just heard “All My Loving” by The Beatles on Ed Sullivan and that racket by those boys with the girls’ hair is driving him nutso. (No but seriously, this was the first commercial after that, you can see Sullivan for a split-second in the beginning.)

I love watching these old commercials for some reason. It makes me feel happy inside, just knowing how old it is, and the history in the black and white tv. I wish I was born in the mid 1900s

The little girl is actress is Suzanne Cupito (aka...Morgan Brittany). As a child she appeared in many TV series and films. She played one of the daughters in Yours, Mine and Ours with Lucille Ball and Henry Fonda. In the 70's she changed her name to Morgan Brittany and had a hit run on the TV series Dallas in the 80's as the evil Katherine Wentworth.

Woman’s name is Ellen, not Doris. No mention of Billy, a bike, or a driveway. Plus the ad is for anacin, not Bufferin. Pretty wild that a search for “Doris can you keep Billy’s bike out of the driveway” links to this.

Nor mine. Even at the age of 6 I saw this commercial and I was like "What a dick! Glad he ain't _my_ dad." My heart ached for the mom. Back then I had empathy (wonder what happened).

Someone should make this a viral challenge for guys. Set up a camera when you’re all about to go do something, wait for the woman to say “Hurry, we’re gonna be late” or something to that effect, and then angrily bark at her “DON’T RUSH ME!!” I can only imagine how that would go down today. “LISTEN HERE, ASSHOLE!!”
