This is EXACTLY what I am looking for! I'm 51, and when I was a small child my grandmother had one of these. And as a teenager I actually lived in one for a couple months in New Mexico. Great memories! And I'm ready to make some more! Anyways, my youngest two are 16 + 18 and I've convinced my husband that selling EVERYTHING and living in a truck camper is how we are going to thoroughly enjoy our next phase of life on our budget! Modern technology and solar energy is what's going to make this possible like its never been before in history! We don't have much income, but neither do we have any debt. And it's taken a couple of years to convince my husband that despite our "low" income we are in fact RICH! He says if he can wake upon the morning to a cup of coffee in one hand and a fishing pole in the other hand IN THE WATER...then HE will feel rich. And I know that an old truck camper combined with my ingenuity (and my husband's of course) can become a beautiful home! And a great life. I can't hardly wait😃 Thanks for sharing...last year..lol . HAHAHAHA

I have a 1972 El Dorado truck camper. Pretty good shape for the age. All original. Bought it for $400. Doesn't have a bathroom in it tho. Just bring a Lugaloo. (Bucket with a lid) One of my favorite things I've ever bought for myself. I sure like yours. It is in pretty good shape for the age like you said.

As a kid in the late 70’s early 80’s I spent my summers in the Arrow head portion of MN with my Grandpa. A retired miner in Iron Range he had lots of time to spend exploring the north woods we me and my siblings. It was in one of these truck bed campers many of my adventures with him took place. Your vid has inspired me to begin my search for a truck and camper combo

Awesome video! I lived full-time in an old truck camper many years ago and loved it. Didn't have much so living in it was rather simple. Sadly truck campers are no longer made like yours is. New ones are made cheaply and expensive to buy, even the pop top ones aren't made very well. Happy campin to ya!

Troy I do like that you are able to use a perfectly fine truck and Camper. People associate old with bad. That’s simply not the case. In fact I would argue that items like the heater /oven have no modern day equivalent. 45 years YOUNG. JUST LIKE ME

A good suggestion is to vent your battery to the outside air. When charging it can give off a gas that are harmful to people. Make the cabinet air tight and just put a screen covered hole to the outside world. Some fabric covered upholstery and some laminate on the table will do wonders for the inside.

Great video. I love the simplicity of the old campers. One thing I noticed is that the interior layout is mirror imaged compared to any truck camper I've seen. I was thinking of building one and wondered if there was a reason they always put the kitchen on the drivers side. Maybe Security was a rebel type company. Lol
@nunurbusiness162
@nunurbusiness162 9 ай бұрын
It's my gas. They put the kitchen on the driver side because that way all the essentials like propane and drainage are easily accessible after getting out of the driver side. Makes pretty good sense. That way you don't have to walk around to the passenger side to refill the propane and whatnot. Just a guess though

Hello from Boise! I'll try and look around to see if I can't dig up some history of the company that made your camper. Mine has a one of a kind, ( back then they only made one or two of the c class coaches each year) 1969 Ford F350 c class motorhome, with 35,000 miles on it. Very cool, hearing that you spent the winter in yours, because that information will make me think twice about spending money going to Arizona in the winter. Besides,...I love snow at Christmas time. Nice job putting her together. I'll let you know what I find out.

I have had these campers for many years. The 8" model weighs somewhere around 1,200 dry. I cut 1/2' foils backed foam for all the windows when camping in the winter. Makes a huge difference. Upgrade to digital lights and the battery can last for a year. Forget the water tank in the old campers. Just use 5 gallon cans and keep a gallon on the counter. Take the bathroom out and "most" girls won't want to go. Re-position the table to set sideways with a 2X2 attached to the wall

A very well made camper. I had 72 cab over 13 ft. Fully self contained in loved it.If you haven't figured out why your fridge won't work. Check the drain hose from the fridge drain to the out side. This hose can be plugged up or came off the inside drain port comming from fridge. Remove and replace it. Propane lines can get blocked but spider website. Check port for oil or grease. If plugged use a fine sewing needles to unplug the orifice. I sure miss you camper,good luck!

That is a really lovely little camper, I am particularly interested in the Williams Mk3 Bake and Heat, as I have never heard of one before. These simple campers were the backbone of truck campers before they became the ridiculous, heavy, models with every imaginable convenience that needed huge trucks just to haul them that we see today. Your campsite looks beautiful with the mist in the trees. Subscribed.

The Williams Mark lll Bake n Heat, very hard to find info on it. Williams still makes house heaters and stuff. But little to be found on this model. Its really neat, as it saves a lot of space. Being two in one. Heater and oven. I guess baking cakes in 1972 while camping was the thing to do back then. Cheers

Wanted a truck camper this year but the prices are stupid to put it mildly covid tax is the worst. There’s next year at least. Got a 2012 f 250 long box with tork lift tie downs. I’d like one of those rare units with the entrance door on the side of the overhang of the box instead of the back. Gives ample room for a great bathroom on the other side and adds to the use and functionality of an awning.

I’ve been considering Setting myself up to live in one of those. I’m paying $550 for rent 150 for my cable, and about $60 for electric and renters insurance. That’s a lot of money that could be saved over a year or two. The only downside would be, I have a lot of stuff that would have to go into storage. And then there’s my guitars and amps that I love playing.

Troy, I think you could probably get completely of the generator by making a few small modifications. Check out peoples van remodels on KZbin for some tips. Also, thinking you could use FRP in that bathroom instead of tyvek and metal. Simply laminate the existing walls and floor. Likely same cost or cheaper, but much faster

Those vents are pointing the wrong way, they will tear off at highway speeds if you don't close them up first.

60 mph dosen't effect them at all, and besides, the vents are factory installed...

Good quality camper. Foot stands suck ballz though. Good contemporary design and appliances for the time. Its actually now off truck, and in field, on my ranch in mountains of NM. Gonna use it as an extra cabin for now.

I hate the idea of not having away into the truck without going outside. I wouldn’t be able to sleep at night without constantly thinking that Bigfoot was outside somewhere.

There is a way through the rear window slider. The window to it in camper was just covered with a piece of styrofoam.

So you must’ve run a scenario through your mind about needing the ability to get into the cab of your truck . Just in case an escape is needed. 👍

Is that a shortwave radio on your table? I have several newer ones. Had a vintage Panasonic growing up and it fell out of a RV cabinet while driving. Destroyed it.
