Looks like his helmet was based on the Black Knights helmet from Monty Python Search for the Holy Grail 😁

One thing you can do with the EVA foam is to use a clear gloss enamel on top to simulate the original plastic sheen.

Once the helmet is folded together, would it take a coat of 'Future' floor polish to 'gloss it up'?
@Fnordathoth
@Fnordathoth 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I'm pretty sure that would work for this. I've put future on EVA before, glosses up nicely in thin coats. Give it plenty of time to fully dry before touching it, and as always do test pieces to see exactly how the stuff reacts.

For the creases, you could also score them with a knife, then hit them with a blow dryer, which will open up the scores :)

Nice, creative and informative video as always. I seen some of your earlier videos regarding He Man, and thus going to take the chance and completely change the toyline to He Man instead, to be able to ask you if you have any experiance of removing the tail (the rubber "cloak") on Whiplash in order to repair it. Sorry for not reacting to this video so much =/

Nice! The helmets are always missing (as well as his gun), and you have figured out an extremely clever way of making some pretty cool helmets! They look great! I love the advice on tucking the helmet's tab in to make a better cylinder. I had done it the way that you often see others have done online, so I immediately took the helmet off of my figure, and reconfigured how it buckles in!

You should've put the paper cutout directly over the foam so when you push on it the placement is exact.

If I remember correctly from watching cosplay builders, the EVA will look smoother and blacker if you hit it with a hot air gun. I'm guessing that would make the marks also more permanent.
@toypolloi
@toypolloi 4 жыл бұрын
I did try hot air on it, but it's such thin foam it just curls up. On the thicker stuff it works fine. But these helmets need to be thin to make the look good.
@allluckyseven
@allluckyseven 4 жыл бұрын
What if... You stick it to your cutting mat or some other surface, then hit it with the heat gun... then flip and hit it in the back? Maybe before you cut around it, but after you make the marks on the front.

First off, I love your solution for the missing helmets, they look great! Don't know if you have access to plasti-dip or similar but I'm betting those helmets you made would look even better with a light coat or two of the stuff.

It’s not being cheap. It’s actually rather creative and also something other people can try at home. Not everyone is gonna have a 3D printer.

As I have said many times before. I like to create stuff that anyone can have a go at with limited skills and materials. No point me showing how to fix something that only 1% of people can have a go at. And you can buy a 3D printed one cheaply already as you can see in the video. Cheers
@Fnordathoth
@Fnordathoth 4 жыл бұрын
Dude, you think maybe you could have suggested a 3D printer without being insulting? He's also not against using 3d printed stuff when the situation calls for it, but when you can craft a thing yourself with your own hands for the joy of making stuff why wouldn't you?
