Late to the game, but i bought a Kenner 12 inch Luke doll several years back. The top portion had the same issue as your diving suit. It has juice stains and other marks. What i did was to dunk the top in lukewarm water with oxy clean in a mason jar. I was nto sure if it would work and it did a marvelous job. The Tunic was ultra clean, the stains had come off. The only thing that oxy clean did badly was to discolor the printed with ink sticker inside the tunic but since it was inside it was no big deal. I also gave the body as good wash with same solution and it did clean it up nicely.

My 60's deep sea diving suit was very badly stained. I mixed four parts of luke warm water to one of household bleach and then soaked the costume in it for 20 minutes, rinsed very thoroughly in cold water. It restored it beautifully.

Instead of the oxy, try peroxide creme. It's what hairdressers use. You can get it in different percentages of strength. Available cheaply from hairdresser supply shops. Also great for retro brighting
@Buckydhu Жыл бұрын
The main ingredient in OXY 10 is benzoyl peroxide so you could save money by using cheaper versions as there are lots of creams that also have benzoyl peroxide as their main component. Some may possibly be slightly stronger.

From what I remember, the diving suit had a rubber coating on the inside, and I remember over time, that this use to leave a white power on the figure. I have mine in the loft somewhere, will see if I can find it.

I'm not sure if it's to ingrained, but you can remove permanent marker ink from smooth surfaces by scribbling over it with a dry marker, leaving it for a minute, or so and then wiping it off.

Good job as usual, David. I got a bit worried about the rusty metal parts... Thought you were going to submerge them in vinegar! For glueing the hands, maybe silicone adhesive would work better? I'm always partial as to not use superglue, as it doesn't stay flexible after it has dried and I guess the hands could come off because of that.

How nice and curious it is. I have recently taken the same Gi Joe deep sea adventure to restore in pretty much the same state. Both hands completely destroyed and one foot and lower leg missing. The head is just kind of dirty, white diving suit yellowish and stained and diving gear complete and in a decent state. Unfortunately the missing parts are not available because the only Brazilan Gi Joes were produced in the so called muscle body. This old body model was never sold in large scale here. I'm doing my best to adjust these newer model parts such as hands and legs but they are considerably different. I think it will be nice in the end because most body is not visible when dressed up. I want to make it is at least poseble and steady to put it in display. Thanks.

Oxy works better in the summer or in hot temperatures, putting the head in the dashboard of your car on a sunny day will really get the ink out

Try nail varnish remover for the ink or even spray deodorant we used it on train seats 💺 and also on cars 🚙 🚘 🚗. Also nail varnish remover is good for removing curry and chilli stains. As is hydrogen peroxide

Never put a fuzz head in water. If I'm not mistaken then the glue that holds the hair to his head is water soluble. So if you put the head in water hair then the hair will fall out as I've come to learn in the 70's at the cost of some of my beloved Action Men. ;-)

The diver's name is Randall Raymond Chaplin; the Great Great Grandson of the immortal comic, Charlie Chaplin!
Nicely done! You may have trouble removing the stains from the suit if it's a synthetic. I did have a favourite white poly cotton t-shirt of mine that ended up with some mold spots on it after it was left in the bottom of a plastic garbage bag when I moved house. I soaked the shirt in a bucket of hot water with a couple of capfuls of 'Vanish Napi-San Oxy Action Crystal White' (That's the Australian brand) for a few hours. I had to repeat the soak/heavy machine wash process 4 times but the shirt came totally clean on the 4th wash. Note that I exceeded the amount of powder and soak time recommendations and it hasn't damaged the shirt. I had this G.I.Joe equivalent set back in the 60s/70s. From memory it was bundled with and inflatable raft, a treasure chest, and a plastic Octopus. I used to have him diving in our swimming pool, and I remember running out of breath trying to blow air through the pipe into the helmet. It was a really well made set with the metal weights for the boots and the weightbelt. Lots of happy memories.

Holy Diver,or stinky diver;) . Looks like this guy's had a run-in with some squid ink and judging from the elastic he's been wearing those weights a little too long.

I also tried Oxi 10 cream and like you found the results unsatisfactory. Also avoid ethymal antiseptic toothpaste it has a similar bleaching agent, but again the results can be disappointing against some ink stains and marker pen. The best results I've had are sunlight and hydrogen peroxide. Hopefully you'll have some trick or other in mind so poor Action Man doesn't look like Hitler any more lol, good luck. ;-)
