This week at Project Build Stuff we are restoring a vintage 1953 Delta Bandsaw. I picked up this bandsaw for $50 and it really cleaned up nice. Vintage tools like this are perfect for small shops and those building up their tool collection.

I restored that same model band saw about 1989. The drive shaft on the bottom pulley was in bad shape & so was the cast iron housing. As a teaching project @ my work place machine shop they made a new shaft & milled out the casting & installed needle bearings on both sides & installed gitz (spell) oilers. I still have it & use it a few times a year, works GREAT!

Nice video. The wood guide was a gem. What is the groove diameter of the drive wheels and what size tire (and from where) did you use. Mine has been handed down in the family since by Grandfather who was in WWI. I have had to free up brearings and relubricate but has been a workhorse for small items. Our big metal bandsaw is about double the size. Thanks.

I have the same saw. Bought new by my grandfather in the early 50s. It runs well but has only a 1/4 HP motor, which limits what I can saw. Maybe I should get a bigger motor.

I just picked up one of these for $30 off facebook marketplace. Planning on doing the same! Thanks for the video. If I may, where did you find a 71 3/4" blade & the tire? I'd love to find a low teeth count on the blade. Thanks!

Wait, your blade guard was wood too?! I thought some previous owner had just lost the old one. I'm jealous that yours came with all four cover nuts.

Yeah the wooden blade guard was actually standard. Try looking on eBay for the cover nuts.

Did you buy any new parts? It looks like you replaced the tire on one or both wheels. If so, where did you get it?

0:49 you're using your pliers backwards; look at how the teeth are cut. You don't need to squeeze self locking pliers when you use them in the correct orientation.

This is way overkill on restoring one of these. I have the exact saw and I restored mine to brand new shape without taking every piece apart like this.
