Love the undertray and the velcro setup on your Nikko Brat, another thing I love on both those buggies is the aerial yes I know nothing spectacular but just those little things I love Jason. Those LOSI Buggies are both beautiful I love the bright colours (Must of been a moth in my past life🤭) And Keith don’t know you like Jason does but I just have to say your a good man, seeing you guys communicate miles and miles away keeping this hobby alive Very Cool man. Another great video Jason 👍🏻👍🏻

Thank you Shayen. It would be great to see vintage events run with aerials and coloured flags like it was done back in the day. Indeed Keith is a very good friend and I appreciate the friendship and yes I do what I can to send back things he would like or could use also.

Jason You got me thinking with your magazine chat at the beginning. I still have THE copy of Model Cars Magazine that I saw at my local newsagents in May 1983 (aged 13). I read that thing cover to cover over and over again. They actually had a promo where you could mail in and they would send you the previous mag for free ! I still have that one too. I started saving all my money right then for my Sand Scorcher that I went to the local hobby shop to buy in September of 1983. 40 years later I still love me a Sand Scorcher 🤩 I don’t mind modern stuff either, still dabble in a bit of racing, and in fact, isn’t it a great time to be into our hobby? All the best dude.

1. I can't believe you'd actually run those gold AYK rims just because of their rarity. 2. Since you're running the AYK gold rims, I wish you would have chosen to run the Maverick as a bone stock unit, one-way front rims and keeping it a 2-speed. 3. I have no experience with Losi and I was very surprised to see the motor mounted as far forward in the chassis on those XX4 cars. Great video, Jason!

Unfortunately the one ways effect braking characteristics when on a track especially around other cars. I don't intend to flog this car but I tend to make decisions with cars that are going on to the race track that will help it come away from the experience without writing it off.. plus the responsibility of being out there with other peoples valued cars. I have a bone stock original but that's never getting run.

@@Bormac073 I do not disagree at all. I remember your reasoning against the one-way fronts. I meant no criticism in my post, but I thought you said it would just be ran around the track as a run, not raced with others. Perhaps I misunderstood. Regardless, I thoroughly enjoy the content you're putting out.

@@mr.velocitystack4133 it's cool. There will be some 'demonstration' type runs happening and Im not putting in a transponder. Definitely not up to racing the AYK & BRAT in the full heat of competition. But it will still be circulating amongst others at the same time. With something like 110 participants I won't be finding any track time alone either.. 😆

Memories of these things out in the heat of battle on dirt tracks really are for me what it's all about. I loved seeing Mike Dunn of Team Race Prep racing his at the 1989 IFMAR here at St Ives, Sydney. The local sports tv channel threw a tiny camera on to his car and he got action of his out on the track. It was AWESOME!

Is your vintage event going to be on loose dirt or on modern clay? To go oldskool you really need a loose dirt track, watered down properly of course. It's a way slipperier surface.
@Bormac073
@Bormac073 9 ай бұрын
Great question. If you back through a couple of my videos you'll notice a TRX-1 being driven around the exact track in recent months. Both the KNOX (Melbourne) and CASTLE HILL (Sydney) tracks are loose dirt. Not a sand pit exactly but definitely not hard packed or modern type of surface and this is the reason these tracks get the best vintage events.

@@Bormac073 I've noticed certain correlations with changes happening in R/C cars, for example the move to mid-engine 2WD was correlated with the move from loose dirt to clay, for the most part. X-Factory X-6 was prominent right during this era, and they were fighting with stability issues and went with a 4 gear interaction gearbox. Another interesting correlation is the move to brushless which coincided with the widespread adoption of center shaft driven 4WD cars, started of course by the JConcepts BJ4, which was bought out by Associated. The brushed motors and shaft drive didn't go so well together because of gyroscopic effects, as the brushed motors have a lot more spinning mass than do brushless. The copper winds are spinning in the brushed motor, whereas on brushless the copper winds are stationary and only the permanent magnet is spinning, which is typically much less dense. I don't know if you ever study these patterns in car evolution. I certainly do, because I need to understand reasons for things if I am to improve them with some more modern designs. I am currently studying suspension designs - pillow ball has two variants, 1/8 style sideways ball studs or the Team Associated RC500 style with balls protruding vertically. Your review of the RCL Reliant, plus the Mugen Bulldog, had this design. Schumacher Cat XLS also has this design, but much more skimpy. Of course the most obvious variant of front suspension nowadays is the RC10 style with hub carrier and separate steering knuckle, but I think modern designs can do better than that. I am actually fond of the RC500 style design (Mugen Bulldog, RCL Reliant, vertically placed pillow balls), but it has to be done right. There are many issues to overcome, and I'm working on it. There are many weak points to that design that may cause disaster if not addressed.
