/ @ajrestoration My team and I had a really great time restoring this grinder! This is a bench grinder from Taiwan and was made in 1983. This is a model 306c and I have no other information on it. Not even Google knows. Anyway, this little grinder made a beast of a polisher. I really needed one, as you can see in my videos I used a DIY polisher made out of an old tumble dryer motor. Now I can polish everything in style.
It is a great feeling turning something old and ugly into something I can be proud of.
Credits to my twin Sister for nailing the label sticker placement on try one.
Credits to my Brother in law for the epic camera work.
It has been an absolute blast.
I hope you enjoy the video.
If you have any suggestions for improvement, or compliments share them below!

I can't believe I found this video with a grinder almost identical to the one I'm restoring. Mines a 1984 "Buffalo Tools" model B-6CB, and I'm telling you the inside is identical - they probably were built in the same factory as mine says "made in Taiwan". Three things I found "wrong" with mine: No capacitor was installed, so you have to hand spin it to start up, the aluminum switch you see at 11:47 was bent the wrong way, and the bearings were stuck on the shaft (all other videos I've seen, they remain stuck in the housing as yours did).
@snakepliskin4297
@snakepliskin4297 2 жыл бұрын
It's interesting you mentioned that cuz I just tore apart an old craft grinder circa 1980 and both bearings were stuck on the shaft.
@poetnk
@poetnk 2 жыл бұрын
@@snakepliskin4297 I've since seen videos with it both ways, but I can see a benefit to installing them in the housing vs hammered on the shaft. The shaft has some play in it, and if they're in the housing it's much easier to snug it up the way you'd like. That said, I've since repaired my grinder and left them on the shaft and it's been fine.

Yeah I don't think there were any grinders like this exported from China in the 1980s. Taiwan quality is and was much better I doubt the China made tools will last as well.

I have almost that same grinder from the same era, except mine was a USA model wired for 120 volts and 60hz. I had to replace the broken push-pull switch and I did a gray re-paint over the original blue. It has the original bearings and is still running strong.

looks like a "Mark 1" brand - I have one a LOT like that except its a model B-309 - 110V 1/2hp. I got it cheap because the bearings are about shot. common with cheap grinders where the metal bits get flung everywhere and end up in the bearings. I'm planning to get some good double sealed ABEC 3 rated bearings. I'll be sure to let you know how it turns out!

No idea, usually the bearings has a number on the side, that will tell you what size the bearing is, and you will probably find new bearings at a local engineering company, that is where I got the for the grinder bearings.

Hi. Beautiful job! I took mine apart to install new bearings. The end caps came off alright but the fan was loose on the shaft and just slides back and forth. I assume that it's a press fit and if so, I'm not sure how it became loose. Can you tell me if indeed the fan presses on? Thanks.
