Bought the CS-2 in 1984 and it's the only pedal that has never been pulled off my pedal board.
@relevantinformation66554 жыл бұрын
I never thought these would be classics. I have around 30 pedals from the late 70’s early 80’s. It’s fun to see them come back into “vogue” 👍 I always liked the way the CS-2 hit the first AX7 in the tube preamp more than any other effect. You can “drive” the tube without obvious gain grit.

Ever since discovering this channel, Eric has modivated me to download and listen to a bunch of 38 special songs. I grew up listening to them around my uncles, but until I heard him playing "hold on loosely" in some of his past Guitarsenal vids, it has reminded me of how great they are and how I use to jam to those songs at family barbeques during the summer. Thanks guys with the great Guitarsenal content! And btw I'm also 17 in case your wondering 😂

Compressor basically turns up the quiet parts but doesn't turn up the loud parts.

I love the cs2. For my clean tone I use the hell out of it. For my metal tone I dont use it but when me and my dad jam some country i use this same pedal. (Nothing is cooler than me playing a Jackson kv2 for country. My dad loves how my kv2 plays too)
@hughaskew65507 жыл бұрын
Wow, two great channels and nothing content-wise in common between them. (Well, other than the target practice on guitars you just did...) I have to agree wholeheartedly with Biggus about the sound levels being well matched between instruments and speech, and you rock that guitar!

I use a vintage BOSS CS-2 at the front of my signal chain and my playing leans towards the Andy Summers/post-punk textural style with lots of clean tones. The compressor makes single-coil pickups punch and thickens up flanger/chorus/signal processing effects wonderfully. Downside is distortion and overdrive tends to be essentially non-varied in volume and not all that touch sensitive. If you're a blues guy- don't even bother with compression because it will rob you of that dynamic touch and finesse- but if you are looking for that big, punchy, processed 80's clean-toned guitar sound ala The Fix or The Police- the compressor is the perfect pedal. Can you imagine Mark Knopflers' Strat tones on "Sultans . . ." without compression? How about Trevor Rabin's killer clean tones on Yes' "Owner Of A Lonely Heart" without it? That's the beauty of compression.

Well said. The Boss CS2 is my all time favorite pedal. My desert island pedal, if you will. I play almost exclusively clean with single coils, so I consider this pedal to be my "overdrive" pedal lol.

One suggestion for the effects videos Eric. A few times when you do the demo, play a lick for lick comparison with and without the effect on. That way your viewer can hear exactly what the pedal is doing to the sound. For those of us without a great ear (or hearing damage from too little protection at too many concerts), it makes it a lot easier to pick out any subtleties. Loving the channel so far.

I love the compressor/sustainer. I do however adjust my attack with how close my pickups are set to my strings after adjusting my bridge and action height. I found that nothing beats that style of attack mitigation.

My entire pedalboard is made up of 15 Boss pedals. Almost all of them are 80s MIJ. Here is the chain: CS-2, DD-2, OD-1 (Long Dash), DS-1 (Long Dash), BD-2w, XT-2, OD-2, HM-2 (MIJ Version), MZ-2 (MIJ Version), MT-2w, ML-2, CE-3 (MIJ Version), BF-2 (MIJ Version), PH-1r, FRV-1,. So all but the Metal Core, Xtortion, and Fender Reverb are MIJ Boss. Btw... BELIEVE the hype... the "long dash" OD-1 and DS-1 are totally different animals from the Taiwan DS-1 and SD-1. Old 80s Era Boss pedals are worth every single penny. PERIOD! But you will have to invest in a pro level power supply with many 12v outs. Im running 2 Voodoo Lab Pedal Power 2 Plus units under my Voodoo Lab medium size Dingbat board. On a side note, keep in mind old pedals may need cleaning. I was having an issue with the PH-1r fading in and out. I cleaned the pots, power jack and 1/4" jacks with contact cleaner. Issue fixed. I decided to clean all the pedals just to be safe and ensure great sound. ROCK ON!
@CleberHarrisonGuitar3 жыл бұрын
Hi Victor, so would you say they work better on 12v? What about sound wise?
@AudreyGB Жыл бұрын
@@CleberHarrisonGuitarI know your comment is old, but certain boss pedals call for an "ACA power supply" which provides 12v. Now, the pedal actually USES and runs on only 9v, which is why they work great on a 9v battery. BUT there is built-in circuitry which reduces the incoming voltage, so if you plugged in 9v, it would be reduced to 6v or something like that. The pedal might function, but not as intended. That said, if you're even a little handy, there's an easy mod to remove the diode which serves to reduce the voltage. Check out ACA to PSA mod. PSA is the 9v power supply. All you gotta do is remove a diode. Desolder or clip it, or even just bypass it with a jumper wire or blob of solder. Other option is apparently if you run a daisy chain with common ground along with a PSA pedal, then that will ground the pedal and bypass the voltage reduction circuit.

Holy Crap!!!!!! I didn't know you played!!!!!!!!!!!!! Only knew of you your IQ8888 channel. Way cool!! BTW, I have this model, bought it used back in the '90s. Yours looks like ti has nearly the same nicks in the paint as mine! I saw another video with one of these in it and it was nicked up like ours too. I wonder if that's just the paint on these units? None of my other Boss peddles that I bought used are nicked up like that. Cheers!

The only problem with the CS2 is that it's a noisy pedal... at least mine is. And also, when I bought it (like 25 or 30 years ago), I didn't knew much about guitars and I though the sustain would allow me to go from a weak tone to the infinite 1mn Gary Moore sustained notes... even at low volume. Obviously, it never worked that way, so I thought it was not a "good pedal" until couple years ago that I played with it again and discover it again.
